Hanging in there. Part 3

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Hope your getting along okay today, I had to go to the gym, not for the work out, for the hot tub! LOL The boys really beat me up badly yesterday and Jamie hasn't quite finished repairing mine. When we lost power in that bitter part of Feb. it kicked the breaker and caused some freeze damage.I miss that so bad on days like today. I think I may add an alarm to prevent a recurrence. Ric

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

GardenQuilts, sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you get better. Giggling over your dog stealing your pillow. What kind of dog do you have? Oohhh, love the name Tiger Garden! A chemical engineer, I'm impressed! I'm sorry for people who can't can their own food. I don't do a lot, but every bit helps. I'll just be more aware now, buying things.

Stormyla, a few years ago they (the news, I think) did a story about how many chemicals are in your blood, from today's living. It should be a mandatory test along with the cholesterol and trigs. It can get very scary!

Ruby, we've had our share of rain, but it all looks good after!

Sally, the nice thing about staying home and doing all that is the end result! ROTFL over the Bzzt's! I was doing that to the boys the other day playing ''robot!!'' Maybe I was sending out some good signals and didn't know it! Aawww, I haven't found a nest yet. Gorgeous iris!

Hi Pamgarden, laughing, yep, mine look close enough to clothes, and I live on the edge of town! My older neighbor will hang clothes on the line in hers, so we do live in a small home town!

Ric, you'll have to fill me in on the beating and repairing, LOL!

We took the boys home yesterday afternoon. We had two days to play outside and one in. It didn't get very warm, but better than cabin fever. I am looking forward to working in the yard! We got a little more rain yesterday morning. It really needs to dry out now. I can't get in the middle of the bigger beds to weed without leaving footprints and I really need to pick spinach! My iris are slowly blooming and I'm thrilled with each one. June is the big flower month and will be better weather I hope!

Big Hugs LadyG!! I need to unload the camera after I take a few more pictures today. I have so many pictures, and have no idea which one's I posted, on which threads, last week. Awkward sentence but I think you get the idea :o)

Have a great day everyone!!

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Good morning everyone. Sunday I felt good enough to get out and do a little bit in the yard, pulled a few weeds (5 gal bucket full- not packed down) from around the watergarder, that is my relaxing area, and weeds to me are not relaxing, if they are staring my in the face. It was sunny and warm, but a slight chill in the breeze. It was good to get out.
Monday I returned to work, easy day, nothing to keep me running. In the afternoon we go some cold damp weather move in and that effects the surgery site so I had to apply warm moist towel to relieve the spasm, that worked. When I got home and in and out of the car, the chill kicked in again and so did the spasm. I headed for the heating pad.
I am getting some energy back but it is slow, and i am just so tired of sitting around.
That picture of me was taken at work for Saint Patrick's Day. I am the only one that has Irish in me but they now make a big deal out of it, another excuse to party.

I think the ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ ~~ bzzt ~~ bzzt ~~ ~~ are working, maybe turn up the voltage some more LOL

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Chris, Hope you get some zing back. Maybe just get lost in a good book. I know all to well about the weeds. My veggie garden is shameful with all the other work we're doing. I need to get the pool open, clean the filter,...
Billy, check hhttp://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1093130/#newere: this is how they beat me up. LOL Ric

Chris, do you have one of those pads you can either heat in the microwave or chill in the freezer? They work better than a towel at staying warm for a long time. The one I got Joyce, which is filled with seeds or rice hulls or something, said it is moist heat.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Oh my mom loves her rice bag that I heat up for her. Speaking of which, I better go do that, it's a rainy, chilly day.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

I do have a bag that I heat up at home, they do work great. The towel I what I grab at work, I can put it under my shirt and continue working. It doesn't take long to ease the spasm once it gets warmed up.
I'm off today and the sun is out and the temp will get into the high 60s so I'll be able to get out in the garden. I have some weeds to take care of in the veg garden and thin out some beets, that are just starting to come up. I think I'll start hardening off my foxgloves that are in the basement, I might get a few flats outside and put in my wagon so I can wheel it in and out of the garage.
Friday I go for more scans so that will take up most of my day.
Energy is increasing everyday, so I am really looking forward to a break and a short return to normal before getting back into 2 more treatments. I am hoping the #'s continue to go down and the liver scan comes back clean. and no new areas of concern pop up.
A patient called up to make an appointment yesterday and I was busy with a patient, so one of the other girls got the phone, I could hear her tell the patient, "Yes she is here, she is just busy right now, she is doing much better," then after the appointment was made and I was free, my co-worked put me on the phone, the patient just wanted to hear my voice just to make sure I was really there. Got to love them. There are so many that are like that. Always asking about me.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

"Always asking about me. "
Cuz you are just that darn special ! !!!
^_^
Glad to hear your good report and looking forward to good results on those tests

Crozet, VA

Yes, great to hear from you Chris. I hope that things continue to improve for you. Being able to attack weeds sounds as though the recovery is coming right along. I too am a weed hater and can spot one a mile away. When it starts drying out a bit here, I want to attack the weeds in my front bed which are definitely getting some size on them.

I hope that everyone is enjoying their day. Take good care all.

Ruby

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Ahhh Chris...so glad to hear you're feeling a bit better...I do think warmer temps (althoguh we might not be saying this come July ^_^) help lift the spirit!! Hugs, my friend!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Oohhh, I got behind!

LadyG, if you felt like going in to work, then Yayyy! I'm glad you felt like weeding too! You know you're mid-way thru the treatment when you don't bounce back. Just slow down with it. If there is no energy, you can't create it. You just wait for it. Sit outside and look over the tops of the weeds and find color to look at. No two Springs are ever alike, and you are having a different one than you're used to. I hope the spasms will go away with time. It's a good thing heat works. I think that would feel good. Aahhh, the Irish! Your work family is fantastic!!

I just finally, with DH's help, and two days work, got the South Peony weeded. It was full of dandelions, chickweeed, unidentifables, and grass! Where did all the crap grass come from! Yes, I mean crap. Took forever to pull it loose and I lost some of my dirt with it since it was still wet from the rain. Grrr! I got the whole thing sprinkled with Preen and it rained it in. A big sigh of relief and a wiped forhead! Now to tackle the North Peony Bed. At least it's smaller! I worked on most of the smaller beds already and need to fine tune them. If I'm lucky, it will quit raining and no more weeds will grow.

My iris haven't disappointed, the peonies are huge, and actually have a sweet fragrance this year! The astilbes will be next and I can't wait! They now have some size on them! It is finally warming up a little. But only the 60's today, and then we're looking at 80's, only I think more hot and steamy instead of nice. Then I'm sure mosquitos. Nothing is ever perfect, but we yearn to be out in it. I have pictures in the camera, more to take before I unload and no time to get anything done. I actually wrote the iris down as I took pictures, since I have similar colors and hate to guess when naming them, before putting them in their folders.

Last night we went to the Grandson's pre-school graduation. Cute cute cute! 20 kids, all on stage. After a couple of songs, the front went to the back till all 3 rows got to be out front. They sang songs with gestures and were adorable. They accompanied the piano with bells. Each got a colored bell and rang it when the teacher held up the card with their color on it. They sprayed the floor in front of each kid with a squirt bottle and played a song called "Squeaky Clean." It's their favorite song to do. They mimic washing and brushing. Then ''twist'' their feet on the floor to make a squeaky noise. It was so neat! These teachers really did an exellent job with the kids! After, the kids each got a cookie with their name on it. These folks went to a lot of work. They had a long table of cookies and I took a snickerdoodle. I caught up with their other Grandma and Grandpa and they each had one too! Shows our age ;o)

Today it's cool, cloudy with a chance of rain. I should get out and check the garden before anymore rain comes. I'm still in my jammies :o)

((((BIG HUG))) BBBBZZZZZTTTTT BBBBBZZZZZTTTT OOH, I FEEL TINGLY :O)

Everyone have a great day! (I'll have to catch up reading the rest later.)

Ric, your page wouldn't display, so I'll try later. I HAVE to see how you were ''beat up'' now, LOL!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hope you're having a relaxing weekend despite waiting for those test results... you were in my thoughts and prayers often today!

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Ric, I still can't get your link to open. I sort of remember a while back, you were ''beat'' on, but I can't recall the details.

Yesterday was finally, !!!, the one perfect day and night. Warm with a soft breeze and just perfect! I was going to weed, but the neighbors were having week-end company and I didn't want to present them with a ''big moon.'' It's hot today, but partly cloudy and breezy, so I'm going out in a bit and weed. I hate the thought of having to goop up with suntan lotion, but I gotta do it.

I think all my iris are open now. I am missing ''Sneezy'' and did find one small grouping with no tag. I hope that's it. It's one of the more difficult to keep going. I don't know why. I love it, and it's name! I took pictures and now have to name them and put them in folders.

So for something completely different! We saw him yesterday on the road.

Thumbnail by billyporter
Odenton, MD(Zone 7b)

I hope you moved him out of the road.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

He looks like he's safely off the asphalt! What a cutie.

I'm hoping I can find some time to get out and weed... all that rain over the weekend should make for easy pulling! LOL @ Billy choosing not to "moon" her neighbors. Fortunately, most of my yard isn't on such a direct sight-line.

Hoping for some good news today from LadyG's scans!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Lady, I'm always thinking about you too.

My poppies are HUGH this year. I really didn't think they would get so big. I intentionally didn't use any Preen this year to see if I could get some reseeding going. EGADS in addition to the Hops Vine that must have come in the composted leaf mold from the township, I have hundreds of Bleeding Hearts and Columbine everywhere. The Echinaceas are all over the place too. Volunteer Rose of Sharon are everywhere too. I always wondered how effective that Preen was, and now I know.

Hope you have good results from your scans.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Billyporter, I am always beating up on Ric, move those rocks, lay that patio, get that tree planted. LOL I'll have him fix that link, probably pictures of the finished gazebo floor. Boy does it look good.
We are "TURTLE SAVERS" When the kids were younger we would see a turtle on the road We would yell Turtle Savers, Turtle Savers and Ric would jump out of the car and move the turtle off the road. We sill do it even when we are alone. Now the Grands are doing it. Great save.
LadyG, Thinking positive thoughts and sending them your way. Holly

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Good morning. Sending good thoughts
My husband had an MRI for an achy shoulder yesterday. Boy was he surprised at how not-much-fun that was, only for a shoulder. So here's an extra good wish for patience and comfort with all the extra tests and exams you have had to endure. Many more than I can imagine I bet.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Catbird, we'll stop anywhere to move a turtle :o)

Critter, I'm used to seeing the sliders with the flat shells. It's the first land turtle I've had to move. I thought he was a pretty one myself.

Stormy, I think all my flowers are huge this year, especially the peonies. I'm using Preen to the max this year, so I hope it works for me too. I am sick of pulling single tiny weeds from every square inch. In some places I can scrape with the putty knife, but it's mostly labor intensive. If I said a prayer for every weed.....

Holly, we haven't seen any pictures yet, so I look forward to the gazebo if that's it :o) I love Turtle Savers!

Sally, does he not like to lay still for a long time :o)

I seem to only get a few threads finished and then need to get out and walk before it gets hot. I don't know where 5:00 went! It gets late so fast.

I've been trying to get that last biggest bed done. No one was home yesterday so I ''mooned'' all four directions. I'll bet the wind didn't know which direction it was blowing from, LOL! I got the entire outer edge done before it sprinkled on me. If I had know that was all we were going to get, I would have had my bath out there! Now I need to finish the middle. At least this bed isn't so wide and has a lot of daylilies covering the ground. Did you know toads prefer to be in a tangle of weeds? When I weed they move to another bed. But, the wrens can hop around better and I want all the mosquitos eaten!

We have a chance for thunderstorms today. We'll see. So far everything is drying up before it gets here.

LadyG, I hope all is well with you. Time keeps marching on and hopefully you will be done done done! Prayers for an easy day.

Have a good day everyone!

Ladyg, Hope you will be doing better soon. I was just looking at how long ago you posted here.
Billyporter, Here is a link to pictures of our Gazebo. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/894130/ we have been working on it for several years. Every year we just step it up to the next level.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

HollyAnn, Ric, that was great! You did a good job in showing how it came along. That was a lot of hard work, but it's beautiful!

LadyG, it's been so busy here. I was waiting for someone to ''trip'' the thread since I seem to only have time for a few before needing to get up and get busy.

The boys are sleeping on their new Coleman cots we picked up the other day. It's so much easier than dealing with the air mattress. And thesr are nice, with springs and a pad. We opened one and lay down on it in the aisle before we bought them. Very comfy for that amount of time. LOL!

Yesterday we had My Dad over for his 81st B'day. It's really today, but with SIL's work schedule and Grandsons ball practice, it worked out this way. It was a gorgeous day with few bugs and a nice breeze. I made brownies and lemon bars instead of the usual cakes. We also had ice cream and hot dogs.

Dad's cousin's wife was turning 80, so he rode into her open house party with his older brother and sister last night.

I worked on weeding the North Peony bed and just about got it finished. I put Preen down but we didn't get any rain to wet it. North of us, seven miles away, they got 3''. We watered :o(

One Grandchild is awake and the other will follow soon. I better finish up. LadyG, I hope you are feeling ok and taking it easy. We're having beautiful weather this week, for a change.

Isn't it funny, I found another turtle, and a bunny!

Chris, I hope you are having a nice weekend, maybe relaxing with your family. The weather here has been gorgeous. Thought I'd get some gardening in, but company has been keeping me busy. I truly am a cooking fool lately. Dummy me let the propane run out on my grill right after everything went in it last night. My grill has no content indicator gauge. I had 4 vegetables and the chicken prepped for, and actually in the grill when it ran out. Sent DSO off in search of propane in the dark. There was none to be had anywhere. The transition into the oven and the ensuing drips and cleanup was total joy!! Ah well, another memorable holiday gathering. LOL Hope you're having a good one.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Stormy--

You DO know that HD and Lowes have Propane tank exchanges?
You bring the empty one (any brand) and walk away with a full one...I think it is $16...something...or $24...something....not sure...

Both stores are open until 10PM weekdays and 8PM on Sundays....

G.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I think I heard somebody at HD this afternoon commenting about running out of full tanks...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh, yes! That DOES happen on BIG Holiday weekends.....as people tend NOT to think ahead.....
I am NOT surprised.....has happened on many a Holiday.....

Nothing you can do IF they have run out of propane.....but leardn from the experience to check their tanks before a big grilling weekend....

Gita

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL, Yes DSO went to HD and to Walmart. He almost got arrested at Walmart because he walked into the store carrying my empty. Apparently that's a big no no in these days of terrorists. They were both sold out. I did consider that maybe it might run out, but I don't know how to tell if it's empty without a guage. It's very difficult to get it in and out of the cabinet beneath the grill. With my foot condition, struggling with anything low to the ground is a real pain, so I leave it up to DSO. Right!!!! We were eating so late as we were waiting for him to get back from helping a sick friend.

Actually, Gita, I wasn't worried about it as I have another tank hooked up to my Weed Dragon. When I asked DSO to go get that one, he informed me that it was empty. As I haven't used it this year, I couldn't figure that out. He said that he'd borrowed it from me last month and forgot to tell me that it was empty when he went to use it. It shouldn't have been unless he uses the Weed Dragon like he paints. That thing is entirely too much like a flame thrower to give a guy to play with. The Rambo effect takes over. Year before last he defoliated my Asters with it. It's a real testament to the hardiness of Asters that they came back again last year. LOL Apparently it's still sitting at his house empty.

I'm glad that I had roasted the beets and made the 7 grain pilaf earlier I realized this morning that we never touched the chocolate covered strawberries that I made for dessert. I had even made my own dark chocolate from scratch. I made too much chocolate, so I toasted some Walnuts and covered them too. We had some of each at lunch!! Another memory to laugh about.

Hope everybody got in at least a little R&R this weekend.. I know it was a very active one for some!

Chris, you're in my thoughts so often during the day, with a prayer each time.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Lady, You and Critter are both in our hearts and minds constantly. I hope this warmer weather has gotten you out into your garden. Hope it's not so hot up there that it keeps you inside.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Well said, Stormy. Big hugs to both of you.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Stormy, we just can't think of everything. The promise of a chicken dinner would have been good enough for me! Oh my gosh, it's funny now, but yeah, I can see why they thought the empty tank might be a problem! Your story just keeps getting better! ROTFL over Hubby borrowing the Weed Dragon!! When it rains it pours. Yes, a good laugh for years to come!

I've been saying my best prayers outside.I include everyone!

For some reason the sinus bug got me. I am so mad!! It's June. There's no sick in June!! I also must have strained a tendon or ligament pumping water.

I went to bed Thursday night and I could feel something come over me. My neck got stiff, my arm got stiff, I couldn't make a fist, or hardly lift my arm. All on the right side. Then I couldn't get warm. I had small muscle tremors but my skin was hot. I finally got up even tho I felt too cold to get out of bed. I took aspirin, got ice water for the rest of the night and another blanket. As soon as I got warm, I fell asleep. I never had anything like it before. It took a day to get over the arm problem. I still had a tiny headache and, well, it turned into sinus. I'm using the neti pot twice a day and today it finally loosened up so I can blow my nose. I've had clear breathing all along.

Yep, when it rains it pours.

I need to get my pictures sorted and put into folders. I can't find any ready to go.

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Thick head. I forgot to wish you well LadyG.

I hope you are just sitting back and gaining strength. No day is ever really wasted. Hugs and Prayers!!!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Billyporter, I just saw your photo on that other website. It's so nice to be able to put a face to your fun personality. Hope you're feeling better.

Chris, I hope you're getting some rain up there. It's so much nicer to spend what energy you might have doing things that you want to in the garden, rather than things that you have to do. Watering is one of my least favorite activities and I don't have to lug water!! Well, not all of the time, anyway.

Crozet, VA

Oh stormy - for some reason I have always loved to water plants. I suppose it is one time during mostly hectic days that I feel I can relax and clear my mind some. I can't figure it out but it is really good for my soul. So far this year I can only remember having to water once. Some years it is a daily thing. I am certainly not complaining because we can use just about all the rain we can get. I know that dryer days are coming.

It is good reading what everyone has going on. LadyG - a personal message from John to you....he says that the Golden Boy Day Lily you gave him at Holly's swap last year is blooming and doing great. Thank you so much for it.

I hope that you are doing as well as can be expected. What a tough ride you have had. You have the ability it seems to stay on top of things that are really heavy to carry. You really are a bright light in many peoples lives. So glad that we were finally able to meet at Longwood and at Holly's. I am hoping to see you before too long again.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Prayers coming from this end too.

Ruby

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks Stormy!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Billy, I'm glad you're doing better, but if anything that odd happens again, call 911 and go to the ER. I'm not a doctor, but some of those symptoms (including lack of temperature regulation) could indicate a stroke, I think. Might still be a good idea to get checked out. With stroke or heart attack symptoms, quick intervention can make such an enormous difference. *HUGS*

It was brutally hot/humid last weekend! I didn't get much done outside, so there's a lot that may just have to slide this year. I should probably pick up some fresh white clover seed at Southern States this weekend and have Jim toss it around on any unplanted earth to keep less desirable weeds from sprouting.

Thinking of you, LadyG!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

That's a good idea, Critter. I might try that too. Is clover annual or perennial?

Nichols, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks Jill! I did think of those things. I'm learning that I don't take the heat like I used to, so I'm not afraid to let things slide. The weeds will die eventually. The key is to sprinkle Preen to stop the reseeding process. I got so tired of weeding out chickweed, persian speedwell and other tiny weeds. I hope the Preen works. Also. Once it is weeded, no rain makes no weeds too :o)

It's grocery day and we get out of here early. I've had breakfast and need to get dressed. It's also mowing day.

LadyG, prayers for you to have a good day with healing sunshine and a light breez.
