That would be my guess....hope I never see one up close & personal! Gazebo area looks nice, Ric....sorry about the saw....they scare me worse than the snakes.
Garden Projects
Ric, It looks great, when's the next round up?
EEK! I SO did not know snakes could fly ^_^
I would look up information on keeping snakes out of bluebird houses. It may remember where it got its sparrow snack.
Just a common black snake, albeit a small one. He slithered up the telephone pole and right in, he actually had a bird trapped inside with him occupying most of the hole. When Holly disturbed it, it pulled into the box and a sparrow came shooting out. I have at least one in the barn that has to be 6', and almost as thick as my wrist. Our encounters are brief and we go our separate ways. LOL He's in charge of pest management and we have very few vermin in the barn. Black snakes usually avoid contact but may be nasty when they shed, when laying eggs (in old compost), and after a big dinner. I have never seen a poisonous snake in a black snakes territory, and they are territorial.
Thanks for the comments on the Gazebo. Holly told me we have to go plant shopping to fill these new beds, talk about a pain in the wallet? LOL Ric
you are a good guy Ric!!... it looks great so far!!
Eeeeeeeeeek to the black snake! Oh man, do those freak me out, even if they are harmless. My friend in VA has told me horror stories over the years. She had a mama black snake, with writhing babies all over her, fall thru her kitchen ceiling over her fridge! I would seriously have fainted (after I ran screaming from the house). That's quite a shot with the birdhouse, though.
Here is an update on my little wall of hypertufa faced cinder blocks. Haven't planted anything in there yet, just trying stuff out. There are three tufa planters mixed in there that I will probably plant with a colorful shade annual. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out so far.
Noreaster, You block/stones look good, properly cured they should last years. A little time and moss will really make them more natural. Ric
Yes, my plan is to get moss to grow on them, which I don't think will be hard. Most of my tufa pots have moss starting to grow on them and this is a particularly mossy spot in the yard.
those blocks look great!!!
Lookin fabby Noreaster. I drooooooool over moss cuz I can't grow it here sigh. Too dry. Pics please.
Yes - very nice, nor!
I like snakes but would freak out too if they came raining on my fridge.
Nice work, NOR. That will look wonderful when the planters are blooming.
Thanks, everyone! I'm excited to get it finished up and things planted. I'll update when I do.
That is such a great idea you had noreaster. Things are really coming together there for you and I am looking forward to pics with everything potted and planted. Great job.
Got all ten orange and yellow echies, my white grapevine, a campanula 'Sarastro' planted and a ground hog deterrent fence put in the B&Y garden extension just in time before the rain started. It was a good day for planting, cloudy and cool with rain to settle everything in nicely. I do love it when things work out well every now and again. Also potted up my cherry tomatoes and flat leaf parsley. They are on the covered porch just in case the weather tries one last zap.
Like those blocks...they turned out very nice. Think I would move out of the house with the snakes! You did a lot today, Pat...that garden will be beauteous.
Love the gazebo and patio, Ric! Very nice! I would love to do that here. I saw one at Lowe's that I really like.
You can get predator guards for bird houses. I don't know what they're like. They keep the snakes out. I agree with Victor, I would freak out if snakes came raining down on my fridge, too, even though I happen to like them.
I would be pleased with that wall, too, Noreaster. That turned out nice. Yes, the moss would make them really look great.
Sounds like you were busy today, Pat. Too wet out there for me right now. Most of the day, in fact, though I had to work. If it had been nicer I would have been out there when I got home.
Karen
i will not post photo's till the end - i have made 20 round trips to collect rock for my 2 new rock walls - i have focused on getting only very large (think approaching boulders) rocks so far and a couple sizes down - i have a lot of small rocks and need the large stone for the base and next level - yard is filled with rock right now - building starts this weekend.
and what have you been donig?
Well there he goes again making the rest of us look like shirkers. LOL, no one can keep up with you Bill. I did manage to get my 7 clems planted and the calla lilies potted and planted too. Mulched everyone and that was it. Getting quite warm out there you know. Good luck with the next great wall of wha!
I rearranged the apps on my iPhone. Not been feeling well. Hated not being outside today.
LOL...don't tell him the location! I planted all my annuals, herbs, & perennials, plus my new JM....oh, & pepper plants.
weeding & collecting pollen--luckily I did that before the rain yesterday.
THAT IS A WALL! very nice:)
Thought of you as soon as I saw it ^_^
Nice wall! Looking forward to seeing your new one, Bill.
I can't wait for Saturday so I can get more work done on my various gardening chores.
Karen
Need to plant my new JM.
