Garden Projects

Thomaston, CT

UH, OH rock thieves! How dare they....wall is looking really nice, Bill...lots of hard work there. Karen, good luck in your venture....I also got the Email from Seneca Hill. She had some interesting plants.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Marylin. It's a lot of work, but it's what I like doing.

Bill, that wall looks great. I can see why you'd be jealous. Too bad about that post being gone.

Raining here since about 6 this morning. Really heavy off and on, with lots of thunder of and on, too. Looks like no work outside today.

Cousin Nut I didn't know you were going to start a new venture. How VERY exciting. You will be good at it for sure. I am pleased to report that all the DLs are alive and bursting up in my garden. I will post pics tomorrow.

wha I am always amazed at how FAST you build things. It looks GREAT! Sorry about the theivery.

I started garden clean-up today in the rockery and I think it counts as a project cuz it's alot of work! Very pleased that my dianthus and saponaria yearling seedlings have taken there. Worried about my dwarf forsethia though :( Pics tomorrow.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i triple checked the thievery from the thief (me) and it is indeed gone -probably this week based on the indent that is still on the ground where it was - so i decided to check out the old foundation again and i found two more worthy posts, one is pretty small at only 31" - both are now at home - makes up for losing the other a bit

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

"Scoop em or lose em" as I always say which is why I am always yelling "STOP! ROCKS! when my true luv and I are road tripping. Good that you found two more.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx - can't believe i lost the other though i had a pick-up i could have used at any time

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

jobs always get in the way! :)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yup the wall cost me the granite post - that and i needed some helping hands if i wanted to get it in - it was huge - losing after all the effort to get it out of the woods - nope the two today do not make up for losing it!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Beautiful Patti.
Wall's looking good Bill. Sorry about your stolen rock.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Cousin Nut. Looking forward to seeing your DL's come bloom time. Have fun with the cleaning of the beds. I still have beds to clean. Will I ever be done? I'm thinking not, even though I got a head start this year. Still so much to do.

Bill, I'm glad to hear you got those 2 smaller posts, even though it doesn't make up for the one you 'lost'.

Wha, Your first "Wall For Hire" is awesome. What happens at the end on the side away from the house and on either side of it? They should just hire you to landscape the whole thing. I hope they aren't planning on hiding it with too many plants. Glad you liberated a couple more stone post. There will be more, but the story of the "Big One" that got away will always be painfully annoying.

I have been in Vt, but our plans to visit that cool nursery didn't happen. I have been sick again. Cough and cold, so I have had no energy or inclination to do anything. Hate the waste of time. I did clean up some photo's on the computer between naps that I took on Thur. morning. All the dwarf Iris that I planted last fall are starting to bloom and all the big ones have blooms. Yippee.

I will post them over on the garden pic forum meanwhile here is a shot take last year of the Well bed and along with one taken of the newly expanded one that is now"mostly" planted. It continues up and around the hill and, it is now as of Thursday, "mostly"
planted. Another Yippee. I have rip out the tulips and move them when they finish turning yellow in about 6 weeks. Patti

Wow! Patti, that's a lot! And what a huge list! My goodness, I'm tired just thinking about it. It looks great.

I have to get to work on my retaining wall today. I only have enough blocks to do about 22' of it, about 2 blocks high, which is about 10". Once I have all my potted plants in front of it, though, it won't even be seen. Oh, well, at least I won't have to worry about erosion.

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

no kidding what a list... you are amazing

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Yes, I am afraid my eyes were bigger than the new bed. It can grow. Patti

Thomaston, CT

Feel better, Patti....your plants need you....some lovely varieties in the list!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks, I am about to venture out to Walkers Farm for veggie starts. Patti

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Patti, is that photo just above your VT property? I have no idea how you manage to keep up with the amazing garden you have in Nantucket - how on earth do you keep up with both?? My garden is tiny compared to yours and I need tons more time than I have. Work always gets in the way. But then, I need to work to support my obsession :-)

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Patti, your gardens are beautiful!

Bill, I am so inpired by your work that I decided to build a rock pond this weekend with some JMs. I think it came out pretty good.

I had a big rock left over, so I carved a bear.

Those 2 projects took ALL day Saturday, so today I took a stroll on the beach. Look what I found!

Very nice, Weeze! Did you take any breaks?

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

And this one. I could barely fit them both in my car.

Of course Victor. While on a break I created this:

Woof, yea I'm a lieing dog. Those were taken at a nursery a couple of miles from my house. Love the place! I did do this on my patio with some plants that I purchased there.

I have two more beds that I have to get groundcovers established. One is part shade and the other is full shade. The part shade one will get both vinca and hellebore. Not sure about the shade one yet. Might add more low hostas. MIght do some hellebores there too. Possibly vinca as well.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - great place, Weeze.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I have vinca in full shade and it is ridiculously happy. Wonderful as a groundcover.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

It's one of the few plants that thrives from full sun to full shade. I really like it.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Ugh. Right now, I don't even like the word 'vinca', LOL! I still have 200 (out of 1000) to plant!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Send me what you don't want!

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

Hee hee. I'm not quite itching to get rid of them - just tired of planting them!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Come and dig up some vinca here, Victor, I have plenty! In fact, anyone who wants to come and visit can dig some vinca if they want.

Nice nursery, Venu. I'd love to have some of those driftwood creations in my gardens.

Here's what I did today.

Karen

Just getting started on the retaining wall.

Oops! That was pretty much the same as the last one, only a brighter exposure. Thought the first one was a little dark.

Dad helped out.

The wall is done! At least the bottom, front portion, that is. I have to buy more blocks to do the upper tier, but I need more money for that. And I still have to all the way around this hill, then make stairs. A big undertaking.

Here it is with all the plants set up in front of it and on top. I made a walkway between the wall and the plants so people can see the wall. I'll be putting wood chips down here.
