Thanks Pat, i'll post pics later.

Patti I hope the lily beetles don't find you either! I almost split a gut laughing at this line you wrote.....
"I had a spare suitcase in the car " LOL who but Patti carries a spare suitcase for bulbs/Plants?? Too Funny!!!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Marilyn i wanted to let you know that with some maples it takes a couple years in the ground for them to "look" like the pictures - i will take a pic of my purple ghost that will arrive at the end of the week for you to compare.

celeste i saw that suitcase when patti dropped off some plants for me last spring.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I was thinking it is a ingenious idea actually!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Patti you are brilliant!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks, I always do the suitcase within a suitcase when I travel when I might need to buy plants. The empty big one holds my smaller filled suitcase, just in Case. I also throw in some newspaper and tape. Be prepared is my marching song, as an old girl scout. I don't think I ever got the flower merit badge. Patti

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Trowel, glovies and ...rocks always travel with me. I figure if I bring rocks out of the country I can bring rocks home. It's all about maintaining the natural rock balance on the planet. Ya. That's it. wha understands.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Dahlianut, What about the rocks in our heads? I have quite a collection of Canadian rocks in my garden. They came home as ballast in the back of the car in case we ran into snow in Aug on our way home. But a trowel is a winner of an idea. Patti

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Once again Patti your brilliance is astounding. However did you miss getting the flower badge?!?! The beautious bunch of purpley rocks I brought home from Montana last summer were 'part' of the bench I declared. The small rocks from NM and AZ that I brought home this winter were the rocks "I brought with me cuz I'm a nervous flyer". Every rock has a story. Michelangelo is my mentor about that.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I will double check as at age 65, I still have my GS sash. My 95 year old Mom sent it to me recently as she was "downsizing". She had it in my "file". Very organized women. Must be her Canadian heritage. Wonder what else she has in that file. Now if I can just remember where I stashed the sash.

I was tickled with your nervous flyer story. Now I wonder what wha would tell them if he was transporting one of his megaliths? Patti

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

You have your sash!!! Do you wear it? I would if I still had mine. I would wear it in the parade for the opening ceremonies for the Wakening of the Dahlias Festival. Now two things to be greeeeen with envy about: bulbous things and the merit badge sash. Sigh.

South Hamilton, MA

Hey young pups, we had to wear our badges on our sleeves--didn't have sashes as yet. tough when you grew out of a uniform. No flower badge here either.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Me neither. AHEM! Did anyone out there get the flower badge? Are we sure there WAS a flower badge? Googleguy knows nothing.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

The boys I had as a scout leader all had to suffer through gardening, nature, and cycling. Many also earned environmental science. Other Dads had their own fortes some of which I helped with. The worst time was backpacking on the Loyalsock Trail, another dad couldn't make it, so I volunteered to prevent a cancellation. After the first mile and an almost 2000' climb I regretted my choice, at least till I healed. LOL Ric

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

D-nut & Patti...all the badges you ever wanted should be found here..........

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yumm - I can smell it from here, Celeste. Have fun!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

It (the smell) will only bother me for the first hour, then I'll get used to it.....doesn't mean I like it!
On the other hand.......the benifits of a dark rich soil is soooooooooo worth it!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes it is.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Only gardener's would get excited about something like that.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Happy poop spreading pixie. I spread my poop in the fall although I like to always have some on hand for this and that. You can never have too much poop IMPO.

Have lots more to do but here's a long view. Yes Bill, I know my bricks are crooked! It's only temporary, honest!! LOL

I need to add some white crushed rock still and wet it down some more for the dust to settle like cement around the large stones.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the arbor!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks! :)
We also planted 18 rows.... each 25 feet long of corn today. ^_^

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

wow how cool

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Over kill! My brother(Brian) and Brian(DH) had a brain fart. ^_^
Called all the kids and said "Don't plant corn this year...I got ya covered!"

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

here is a picture of the wall i am building - it is 3' H x 3'W biggest one i have made yet - it does not sound big .....until you try and build it! - it will stop at the stones to the left and then i need to finish the right side which is a little longer than the left.

WOW that is a lot of corn!!!

Bill you ARE the rock king.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice Bill, looks really good!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Looks good, Bill. Free medical care??

Nice arbor, Celeste! (I prefer crooked paths myself. ^_^) That's a lot of corn!

Thomaston, CT

Pixie, you couldn't look happier! Lovely manure. Bill, thanks....I'll see if your purple ghost is any darker than mine was. The rock wall is a beauty. I say we all head to Maine when the corn is ripe!

South Hamilton, MA

Hope the critters don't get there first. We stopped doing a small patch of sweet corn the day after the racoons did in the patch (one ear left).

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Celeste, great picture and work. Nice poop. I would drool over corn that fresh. We have to drive nearly 2 miles for our farm fresh corn, but it isn't home grown like yours.

I think I spoke too soon as I think we saw a red lily beetle today on some Nepeta, but before I could get close enough it flew away. I screamed and my poor DH had no idea what I was babbling about. I am very very afraid. He is now horrified too.

Wha, that wall is beautiful as always, but it looks too short for one of your masterpieces. I hope they know they got lucky to get you to take on a commercial job. More in your future?

Today we spent organizing all the spring plants to go into the grown. They are now next to the bed that they are to be planted in, we are just letting them see their new neighbors. Tomorrow we plant those 214 pots that are now ready to go into the ground. Then we have just a small order coming from Bluestones next week, along with some summer bulbs and lots of lilies to plant. Then we are done, except for the veggie bed which is ready to plant. Oh and some annuals, so not done, I guess. Never done is more like it. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Not sure if i want more commercial rock walls - one of the few times where i can say i am really beat - not sure how anyone can do this for a job - at least alone - i spend more time digging for the rock than stacking - the wall will be 80 ft which is pretty big - and yes he has already passed along his high approval.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Great looking job Bill, at almost 27 yards of stone, that's more of a monument than a wall. Ric
The neighbor offered me 2 more rocks, I told them only if they bring the backhoe and plant them in my wall for me. They're about 4x6x2' each. He said they may, rather than haul them. That would be about 12' of 32" wall. My fingers are crossed.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

WOW that's a big wall wha! Pixie are you going to have a corn roast at harvest time?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks ric - it is a huge wall - finished the first half today and it met my specifications as i walked and jumped across the top (doc's wife must think i am crazy) to see how study it is - told the doc it could take 2 to 3 weeks for the whole job, i'll be done in 3 or 4 days.

it will be interesting to see what he thinks of the end portion of this wall - i rolled a huge block rock out of the woods and another big thick flat piece and positioned it flat side up in the air next to the block rock - perfect seat with something to lean against - it is what i would have done in my yard - landscapers thought i was NUTS to attempt to move them - then watched me roll them by hand (without offering any assistance) - these are the same guys i had to "interview" with and asked if i could do some stone wall jobs for them - not sure i will take them up on any offers unless the $$ are there.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Sorry, Bill, did not notice the new project thread this morning when I posted. I will re-post now and then catch up on this new thread.

Iris, to answer your question on how my terracing project is coming, I just purchased enough retaining wall blocks to do the bottom 22' of wall, 2 blocks high (which will be about 10"). This weekend I will be working on getting those in and I will take before and after pics. Only problem is, once I have all my potted plants lined up in front of the wall it won't even be seen. Oh well, I'll know it's there.

Here's what I posted previously:

"Ric, thanks for the advice. I'll look into what it would take to put together a brackish tank. That sounds like a good idea.

Songs, I like your front yard project. I can envision a big deck in place of the old one. I don't know what your plans are for it yet. I know a big deck is pricey, but I always dream big, even when I can't afford it. I'm sure whatever you do will look nice. I would agree with Jen on planting bulbs to come up through the vinca in the spring. I have daff bulbs in my vinca, and they sure look pretty together.

Will have to read more later. Gotta run to work now."
