Let's keep working in the yard!
Garden Projects
Nice stones, Bill. Who's buried under them??
you were not around:) a third of them are under ground.
They look better and more natural when partly buried.
yes the rule of thumb is 1/3 buried.
wha you forgot to put a number on the title. Does that mean we have to start all over again?

'what you forgot...'????
That's a given (tee, hee)
Pretty new rocks, matches the mulch perfectly.
lots of flat stone in that wall!
Yes, on this side of the property the wall is only partially visible. Alot has fallen down and this is one of the better spots. On the otherside I can't tell how bad becasuse I have as much P.I. between me and the wall as I do trillium on the this side. I told Brian to order P.I. killer by the 50 gallon barrel!!
starting a wall tomorrow and wishing there were flat stones like that! Brush B Gone works pretty good for the pi and anything else it touches.
Nice work, Brian!
The doc job, Bill?
So far, the fake wasp nests seem to be working very well at keeping them away. I'll get a few more.
Victor, are they those big wasp nests that you hang?
Yes.
How many folks work at that botanical garden, Bill? Those rocks are perfect. Brian did good, Pixie! My son has just the foundation poured for his garage.....now he's asking if I want him to build an apartment over it......maybe when pigs fly.
Nice rocks Bill, my brownstone gets a little boring once in awhile. LOL Ric
yes i got the doc job - begin tomorrow
Cool! Congrats!
Oh no Bill....what's going to happen to your garden if you have to go to work? Bummer. What does the wasp nest keep away, Victor?
What does the nest keep away, Victor?
Congrats on the job, Bill.
Wasps! Yellow-jackets, etc.
They think other wasps already live there so they find somewhere else to build their nests.

thx jumper - just a couple weeks not a "real" job.
Love your tan truck J-2. Hope the clems are happy.
Victor - the fake wasp nest looks like similar to a hot air balloon, minus the passenger basket.
They might wonder about the fate of the previous passengers...
I can see why you wanted those nice colored rocks Bill. Looks good standing up like that. Color does look a lot like brick, they should look great around your patio area.
Nice idea to deter the wasps. Glad it is working Victor.
Pixie I am envious of those red trillium and your flat rock wall. A lot of work getting done up there too.
Jumper your new flower bed is filling in nicely. Clems are going to look good.
It was too hot to work in the sun yesterday, so I transplanted and planted 10 things out front. Now have to get it all mulched before June. Lots more stuff to plant first though.
Looking nice, Pat....isn't it fun to get the new stuff in? I visit with them every day....encourage them to grow!
Thanks Robin. Yes I do too. Check to make sure nothing is eating and also dispose of any nasty bugs I find. Have a few critter nibbles but so far so good. Have been fighting the red lily beetles and little green caterpillars for bugs. My morning stroll with cuppa is the best time in the garden, rain or shine.
I need to mulch too, had a yard dropped off for my lastedt project. I had 2 flower beds, one was 12' long all Iris's. The other is maybe 8' and all daylilies, there WAS a mock orange in between but it died. I had Brian pull the M.O., scrape all the sod out from in between the 2 beds w/his tractor while I ripped the daylily bed apart. I then had him till all of it but the iris bed and added compost and fresh soil. I have now started to replant some of the daylilies, some phlox and other things. I have the arbor where the M.O. was and have planted climbing pink roses and blue clems on both sides of it. Under the arbor we added a weed blocker mat, then 3 large flat stones filled in w/crushed rock around it for a walkway. Will have to wait until July to thin out the iris bed as I'd like to see them bloom first. So now I have 2, 15' beds on either side of the arbor and lots more work to do.^_^
That sounds just lovely pixie. Don't forget a picture when you have it done. Your description is a perfect word picture for now.
Celeste, your new beds sound great. I hope those horrible red lily bugs don't find me.
DH has problems with wasp. In Vt to keep them from building nests under the porch roof all the old timers paint the undersides of them a pretty sky blue. Seems to work.
Today 25 yards of mulch has arrived. I am inside working, as this mulch is my mother's day gift that comes with laborers so I don't have to be outside doing it myself, though we will do a few beds that I am not ready for the lawn crew to do. It is very windy today which I hate to work in.
I went to Tower Hill Botanical garden on Sat for a daffodil tour being done by David Burdick who is a great specialty grower of Narcissus. When we finished the outside tour, we went into to the show and when we got to the grand prize winner, he was so surprised that it was him. http://www.daffodilsandmore.com/about.htm
There was a primula show also going on with several nice growers selling plants. I went a tad nuts, is any one surprised? I had a spare suitcase in the car which I filled up with some gems to plant along the endless stream with my other primula. A new obscession. I also picked up and interesting Hellebore call Pacific Frost with great variegated leaves.
Here are some of the Narcissus that I liked and David Burdick. Patti
Nice daffs....love the surprised look on his face! The variegated hellebore sounds super, Patti....photos please when you plant it. Since I gave DS my JM last weekend, I'm hoping another one will be my Mother's Day gift, but I'm not holding my breath. I told him I wanted a very dark upright one, & he didn't seem to be listening.
