sorry... ::::giggle:::
Seeding/Cuttings Whose Growing?
A few things I'm excited about today. These are wild purpley things that I sowed a couple of weeks ago. The friend who gave the seed to me calls it 'wild purple spinach' which is weird cuz it gets about 4 ft tall and googleguy knows nothing about that. There are heirloom sweet peas seeded under the obelisk beside them which I hope will make a very luvly combo.
Looking at the pic I believe a need a neighbourhood friendly wha to make my garden all neat and tidy. Ahem...correction...Twould be wild purple things and a dead sticky stalk thing.
We all need Bill in our gardens! I've planted sweet peas on my trellises...lookin' good! Like that wild purple stuff...is it edible?
I seed viscaria every few years cuz it is a luvly addition in my tiny flowers bed. I moved a veronica last fall and these will go in that spot till I decide on a tiny flower perennial (or a tiny flower dhalia) to go there. Note the red and gold amaranthus babies sharing their tray which I luv ^_^

I love amaranthus too.. hope some of mine reseed out there.. I didn't start any insde
I actually don't think it's spinach RD. I think she just calls it that. This years violas are looking good. I am always experimenting to find ones that self seed. The black violas don't in my garden but they are OUTSTANDING. Pitch black and velvety foliage. I have a pic from last year that I will find for you. I am going to group them with white brachyome this year in a bed that I am swooping out with my trusty edger. This will foil the dandyia lionus from invADING until I have perennial babies big enough to move to that spot.
Mine reseed onewish but I lost my red ones through a series of oops. I have also wanted more 'Hot Biscuits' for a new container in a really hot spot that needs to mask Edger the Furnace exhaust?/intake? pipes. Hibiscus 'Simply Luv' is another annual I luv in my tiny flower bed. She doesn't self sow enough so I always start a few extras for that spot. I think I got the seed in 2002 and have been collecting from her ever since. A very luvly lady to have in your garden.
they look very happy!!!!
hey did I tell you I found 1 x 1" paper seed starting trays at my dollar general... they $2.00 and each pack fills one standard flat... wish I bought more
:O Qucik like a bunny buy them all if they have them next year onewish! Although I have been stubbornly holding out for 2" cowpots I'm going to order a slew of 3" next year for potting up and jamming in. Also I am liking the fibre pots that I tried this year too which are made from who-knows-what organics. Dahlianut seeding motto: If the seedlings are happy, I am happy.
I REALLY need a greenhouse.
My greenhouse was a wedding present from our friends and family flowerjen. I remember that each and every time I walk out into the garden. It makes me misty and it will forever. ps My true luv got a pool table.
That's a very awesome wedding gift. I wasn't into gardening when we first got married.
We asked for presentation cuz we had 2 of everything already being ole boots so we put "Presentation is hoped for" on the wedding invites and told everyone what we were planning to get. I sent pics of both the greenhouse and pool table in the thank you cards. I think everyone was ok with that. I still make our buds laugh when they ooo and ahhh over the tomatos in the greenhouse and I say 'Thank you' cuz they forget that they got it for us.
lol
yes you do Jen!!!..... very cute story D-Nut!!
I think maybe I'll set up a kind of winter sowing set up on my deck, hmmmm
it's worth doing Jen... I love WS'ing!!
2 more petunias bloomed today Debonair Dusty Rose & Dolce Firenze... hands were like this ||||.... not going to work with the photos today... sorry... too hard to balance the trays & take the photo above my head... and good news JoAnn... I see buds on my AG apricot sprite!!!.. guess I timed it better this year!!!!
I had the dwarf canna sprout.
woo hoo!!!!!... congrats Jen!!!!
I'm loving these warmer nights - lows in the 50's!! I moved my babies out of the basement yesterday and gave them a couple of hours of bright sunshine and then they went back into the garage for the night. I have an old picnic table I put castors on and various carts, wagons and tables set up in the driveway to harden off the plants. Today they will get a longer time in the sun and then back to shelter. DH just rolls his eyeballs, but he has to take care of them next Thursday and Friday when Jenn and I head down to Long Island for a conference on autism. I'm terrified for my babies!!!! Hopefully by next Thursday they can be left out all day and can take some spousal abuse (I mean watering abuse)!!!! LOL Take care of those babies DG gardners. Eleanor
I am going to put some of mine out later on as well... too pooped out now.. been out there since 6:30.... break time!!!... might have a touch of sunburn already... oops
Very exciting news flowerjen! I didn't bring my cannas in last fall so I will have to get new ones this year. I'm going to treat myself to big ones.Today I lined trays with compost and a good mix and moved babies that have rooted through their peat/fibre pots into them so they can root into the soil. Shortened more toms. Whew grammyphoebe! Good idea with the table on castors and wagons. Now begins the busy, busy time keeping all the babies happy till we can plant them out.
yours look better than mine... good job!!
Thank you :) I won't put the melons out there until it's at least a steady 50 at night....the green house won't drop too low, but have not finished insulating it yet.
They are a good size pixie!
I had 2 sets not germinate.. I will look which kind Sherrie
I had trouble with the sweet peppers last year too! I didn't try any this year. Next year I think I'm going to try hotties. OMG tonight while I was misting I noticed that a bunch of toms that I shortened less than a week ago need shortening again already! Did anyone start artichokes this year? wha? Mine bursted out, then fried last year but I want to try them again. Seeded some fernleaf dill last week. No sign of it yet.
Peppers were very late last year...not sure I will plant any this year.....I usually buy the plants, but I've been disappointed for several years now....guess they don't like my garden....same with eggplants.....I'm planting more flowers instead.
I have luck now and then... but the ones I buy by far exceed the ones I grew from seed.. had to try again this year though
I think they really like it consistently hot, hot, hot day and night. I don't think we ever get that. Me WAY less that you of coursely.
they look great!!
