Seeding/Cuttings Whose Growing?
I stated tomatos, peppers, peas, beans, cucumbers and lettace. All but the peppers have sprouted. Tomatos will stay inside for a while, the others I'm going to start to harden off.
Look at you guys go!!!!! ge1836 are your coleus cuttings in pots or do just let them root in trays? My coleus seed did not germinate this year due to temp. problems in the indoor grow-op. Nice dahlias RD ^_^ wha the rudbeckias have not germinated yet. I'm going to put them outside to see if the freezy nights will jump start them. My mustard, romaine and buttercrunch is up in the herb garden. WHOO HOO!
Jumper2 I think those veggies can do cold pretty well (scept for the toms of coursely)? I am going to direct sow red runner beans again on the arbour this year even though I only got a grand total of ONE bean last year. The flowers were prettiful though.
I potted up my caladiums from Bill last night... the bigger cow pots are a perfect fit... I hope Bill never learns to count to 10... LOL
I ordered caladiums this year onewish. Are you going to bring yours inside to winter over?
I planned on it last year... never got there though.. will plan for it again.. see what happens.. when it's time to dig them here.. we are usually in halloween mode already.. but do plan on it
Tee hee sounds SO like me. I have wonderous plans and then its Tuber Time and then fall bulbous placement panic and then, well by then I forget.
I might keep a couple inside right off the bat.. before any creepy crawlies get in them
daliahnut.
My cuttibgs are in seed starter trays. Abig mistake.First time I did this.
Seed cells are small so the roots are gawdknows where.
I will have to be careful when transplanting. Plants will need lots of water while new roots get used to the planters I think.
I probably wont do this next year.Ninemonths of watering and clipping.A real drag.
I had some that the roots were a foot long under each cutting.. went to loosen them.. pulled it out.. and the roots kept going and going
How do you do so well with seeds? I started some in early March, under lights and with heat mats, and they still only have 1 set of leaves. I don't get it. Actually morning glory, BES vine and cupids dart are doing great, but the petunias haven't budged. Last year I had good luck with petunias from seed.
I do have a few milk cartons I started a couple weeks ago, they have sprouted.
I think I like that better.
What medium are you using debilu? Are they under domes or are you misting them?
I used the seed starting mix from Lowes... I used domes in the beginning, they germinated great, just didn't grow after that. They do have some roots, just not growing. I mist/water them when they start to dry out.
My petunias are eensy, too, Debi. No, Allison, that passion vine came from Logees...I only started the pansies & petunias from seed this year.
hmmmmmm that's funky weird. If the light was an issue they would grow leggy but not stop and they certainly would be warm on heat mats. Maybe try some fertilizer. I use 1/2 strength miracle grow on the seedlings when they are little. Here is a pic of my waves to give encouragement to yours ^_^ They had a slow start in the indoor grow-up due to heat issues but are very happy in the greenhouse now.
Thanks ge1836. Good info!
Good point RD. I find the waves slow growing too. Methinks that as long as they develop good roots they will be ok.
Although I have already shortened the 'Rogue' toms look at them go! I am going to have to shorten them again this weekend (shorten= pot up to bury more stem so they root up the stem and are stronger). This seed came from flyboyFL and there is a great thread on the Tomato Forum about this one. I'm going to collect seed from this one and will share. At the back of this tray (looking anemic in the back lighting) are the osteospernum 'Fire and Ice" which I call oreos because who wants to keep saying osteospernum, let alone try and spell it. The jury is still out on those for me as although prettiful they didn't bloom very long last year. I tried them again as I had left over seed but if they don't perform better this year GONZO from my garden!

Thanks for the help, I am happy to see some good roots, I'm sure once they get outside they'll take off. They just seemed bigger by this time last year.
This is a VERY exciting tray. In the back is malva Zebrina which I luv but haven't grown for awhile and will use in a container this year. In front is the bunny tail grass which I tried direct sowing last year and it didn't like. The lupins are supposed to be RED. I've been trying to grow a red one for YEARS but they are always dark pink. Maybe this year ^_^ If it is truly red I will collect seed and share.
Baby spiders are doing well. I like to tuck these in along the paths in my woodland garden as they are bright and do well in full shade.
edit: My 'woods' are two trees and a woodshed on the north side of the house. I don't actually have a 'woods'. Just in case some don't know that. I just like to call it my woodland garden.

looking good D-nut!!... just so you know.. don't know if you grown them before.. I grew rock rose 3 years ago.. they had one ity bitty bloom last year... that's it.. guess it doesn't like my garden
started phase 1 of my tomato potting up today.. (cheater way).. only fill them up a little now.. and bury them deep... then bury them again when they get bigger
I will end with some yearlings out in the garden. These are oriental poppies that I grew from seed last year who are looking might good this early. They will leave the 'nursery' bed and be dispursed throughout the garden this year. It always makes me misty when seedlings leave the nursery bed to make their way out into the garden on their own (sniff).
Thanks onewish about the rock rose. First for me. Seed was a gift so thought I'd give it a shot. Supposedly it likes dry conditions. I'm going to put it in my rockery. The other plants will beat it up if it doesn't perform well. The rockery is a tough hood and only the tough survive. LUV the cheater way for the toms! I'm so going to try that! Thanks.
edit: forgot to say that I'm trying potatos this year in containers. I'm going to do the plant them low in the container and add soil method for those. Gotta luv a supplier who sells foursomes for those who are space challenged.
