I started this thread for those who have started seeds indoors, direct sowing seeds, winter sowing or started plants from cuttings. I will start with a pic of my seedlings a bit ago when they were small to start us off. No seedling is too small for this thread! Self seeding in your garden counts too! Bulbous sproutlings are a cause for a dance of joy! And I will just drool over what many have done with cuttings cuz I have never done that YET ^_^
Seeding/Cuttings Whose Growing?
just look at all the babies!!!.. love it.. and girl I have to get you on board the cutting train!!!
Thanks onewish but those babies have spronged! since then !!! I will take a new pic to show. I also will talk about how I 'cheat' with certain baby seedlings so you don't have to pot them up. I am learning about coleus cuttings cuz certain NE members (I wonder who???) have bewitched me.
I've got veggie seeds sprouting.
Onewish droooooooooool over the baby seedlings impatiens. I SO gave up seeding them years ago. I have learned to be strict (sorta) with myself about the petunias. I only do them in a couple of containers so I limit myself on seed orders. O Ya you are a Coleus Queen. My true luv is building me a planter box against the house for me to grow them. Our nights are too cold to grow them in the garden. Please feel free to share all and every pic of the coleus cuttings.
Jumper2 what veggies have you started? Inquiring minds need to know all the details ^_^
I will say the only good seed impatient for me this year is Envoy Tropical Butterfly... they are huge and every seed germinated... the rest of them... no good (the pretty tray is from cuttings not seed)

The guy I buy all my supplies off has nothing in his 3 green houses as of Sunday. He starts hardly nothing from seed. He buys plugs and plants them. I am talking the GH end of things here. You have to buy
Seeds
Seed starting soil and you need
Heat
At 4 cents each and 3-4 inches tall, how can you go wrong? They even come with a TAG!
plugs or cuttings is the way to go... better success rate.. well at least for me
I am still holding off putting anything in the greenhouse... since I don't have a heater... we still have some 30 something degree nights coming... it's killing me.. I have to figure this out before next fall
Throw a tarp over it at night and get a small kerosene heater.

is the kerosene exhaust bad if it's closed up?.. I do have a small propane heater that runs on the small bottles... and it has a catalyst on it so no fumes.. but not sure if it would last all night
I don't know if I could reach the roof... down side to being short... and I know sure as heck Randy won't do that for me everyday .. might have to tie ropes and let them hang on the other side.. LOL
I will have to go to the hardware store and see what I can find.. guess I could just put a few in to see how they go.. I know if the coleus get hit with a freeze they turn to mush right away .. it would only take once to do it
I did get one of those high / low temp. gauges.. and I know as is.. the night lows inside are the same as outside.. but amazing how hot it gets during the day.. need a fan too.. three cheap fans I had inside all pooped out this year.. but for the $10.00 I paid for them at the end of the summer 2 years ago.. and running day & night during seed season.. they were worth it.. funny how they all died within a month of each other.. mileage is mileage
Maybe thats why I come out and fall down after one beer?
I did get a shade cloth that blocks 40% of the sun.. couldn't take it on and off though.. it's screwed in to the roof.. but I can roll the side up.. another live & learn we put the roof vent on the same side as the cloth.. yeah lets just block the air flow... DUH.. once everything is planted I want to see if we can switch the side the vent is on
the outside is made of plastic that you would buy a DVD in or CD in... like that safety plastic only thicker .. I wouldn't call it hard or soft.. somewhere in between... but could give you a nasty cut if you rubbed it the wrong way... but all the edges are in the tracks.. and the tarp would be protected from being cut up
I know... but frightened... LOL.. hate it when I kill things I worked so hard for all winter... but I will do some test ones before I go full out.. thanks for your help once again
:)
One of these years I'll get a greenhouse.
wow your passion flower looks huge compared to mine ... was that from seed?.. I still didn't pot up my cannas.. slacker
lots of seeds started here - i already have some perennials like rubeckia, hh, and foxglove out in my plastic cold frame tent - figured the ones in the milk containers are surviving these will too. might bring out the veggies i started a while back this weekend when it supposed to get warm again. have not zipped it close at night yet.
I opened my WS'ing containers now that the rain stopped & let them dry out a bit
