Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Visit with friends...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, Dads hearing is very poor, even with two hearing aids! We go round and round here, with the level of the tv! He gets really mad, when the people on tv are talking softly, and he can't hear it! Thanks for thinking of him, but I don't think that would work.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's why I thought I'd better ask..still making the journal though...

I found it so interesting to listen to all the chirps...

When I was at the garden gallery yesterday they have solar birds that chirp away, I've a battery one that I have in a cage outside on back deck..it greets me each and every time I get to the back door...hey, don't have to worry about birdseed for it lol but I think it would be lovely to set a few into the garden, would either encourage more birds to visit or less...

Saw a few mole holes in the lawn this morning and remembered that I saw solar mole deterant when I was in Buffalo and meant to pick a couple off, now I have to plan another trip.....any excuse will do right...

Joined a few more swaps which means packages will most likely need to be mailed within the next 2 or 3 weeks, good timing ...

Sage just had her ninth birthday, son had his 38th.

Having computer issues so haven't been getting on much lately, but then there hasn't been much going on around here of late.

Will try to get on a it more often.
Have a good night everyone.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi everyone at 2am! Severe weather, 79 tornado warnings in the state of Arkansas alone between 7pm and midnight, two storm lines, one just east and one just west of us, nothing but tornadoes. We're in a high risk zone until 7am and a tornado watch until now I believe, they extended it until 4am but they might have retracted that. I'm not sure. All I know is this is the first time since about 6:00pm I haven't heard thunder in the distance.

And I didn't get a relaxing Friday :( And tomorrow is supposed to be round 2 for us. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( and many more.

Here's some reports:

http://www.accuweather.com/index.asp

Judy I'm going to look at your pics tomorrow, had nothing but weather on and now that it's quiet I'm going to try to get some shut eye. I have a feeling these are going to be firing back up as soon as the sun rises, it's still extremely unstable out there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, know your nerves are peeked and you are waiting for the sirens, thank goodness for you shelter..imagine you have all your needed supplies within..Dave does go inside with you right? is the high risk mostly for a few weeks and then they move on or the elements not just right? Maybe you'll get some much needed rest later today..afternoon nap would be nice...

Trisha your son is just a few years younger than mine, 40 and 41..Sage 9, wow, won't be long she'll be one of those 'teens'
Are you biking or enjoying your vehicle?

Judy, think everyone is in awe of your trip, am pleased you've invited us along and will continue to look and enjoy! Trip of a lifetime that was...

Got home from work in record time yesterday, sun was shinning and I think my foot was a little heavy on the gas peddle, not that I was going any faster than anyone else, just following along..knew if I came in and got comfortable that would be the end of my day, rushed in, put some grubs on and right back out..ahhh to feel sunshine..at this point I had all my weekend schedule planned..

First I got the lawnmower out, wow, first pull and it started, began cutting and the throttle cable broke..drats, I so wanted to cut all my grass, usually Cathy does it but I hinted that I would look forward to cutting some..lol..so there it was, grass tall as can be and me no lawnmower..so decided to do a little gardening...in comes Suzanne and Lenny all dressed up, going into town for supper, wanted me to go but no, I was on a mission and was going to stick to my plan..they brought me a tree and Lenny checked the lawnmower, I have to pick up a throttle cable and he said Greg would be able to put it on for sure...in the meantime, on the grass he is, I got him wire and he wired the throttle which meant all I'd have to do is cut the wire when I was finished and voila, grass cut...worked like a charm...so I got a brilliant idea, why not just run the lawnmower until it runs out of gas? that way, if I don't get it repaired by next weekend I would still be able to cut grass...usually now I'm filling the tank a 2nd time but no, not this time, I cut and cut and sometimes cut twice just to run out..hmmm finally I cut the wire..

Washed down the 3 decks, made them pretty and watered the grass, I've a lot of sand and with no rain already it's burnt..by the time I looked at my watch it was 9:30 and hadn't even had a bite to eat!

Made myself a coffee and thought I'd order from the little restaurant at the plaza, must have taken a few seconds too long because I fell asleep thinking .. and here it is morning!

Let Sailor out about 5:30 and decided I'd make myself climb back into bed, couldn't sleep but organized all my thoughts on how I would start the garden shed that I have the re-claimed barn board and tin for..mentally, it's made, went to let Sailor in and yikes it's lightly raining so now I've everything done in the house other than cleaning it twice I've a free day so guess the sewing machine will come out and I'll get my April block done which should have been posted last week..

Might make a quick run into town to look for butane soldering iron and some 1/4" copper tubbing to see if I can recreate the project I bought in Buffalo...must take a photo to show you, very pretty it is, would make lovely gifts...

Crossing my fingers that if it rains all day today it won't tomorrow...we sure do need the rain..

Now that was me yapping away, what's your day look like, any plans, relaxing, gardening, sewing????

Whatever they may be, sure hope you enjoy!

Victoria Harbour, ON

For those of you who wish to follow Judy's trip, here's the link...

Susan, glad you dropped in, things still hectic for you? hope it's not your area that they are calling for rain...

Yikes, talk about thunder..Sailor here trying to jump on my lap, storms get the best of her ..

Coffee time again..

Morning Betty, goodness your busy again! or should I say still! LOL! Don't over do it. Sorry to hear your lawn mower broke, but sounds like it will be any easy fix.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Is an easy fix LindaKay, I'll get Greg to pick up the part this week ..omg torrential downpour, looked as though it had stopped so went out to pick a few weeds and down it came again, imagine it will be much the same all day..

All of you in the south, please keep an ear open for emergency broadcast, understand lots of tornado's in many of the states...do worry about you all..

Back to putting an afghan together, was in town for all but 1/2 hr. - couldn't find the copper tubbing I needed, Home Depot doesn't carry it so picked up a hanging basket for the frame in the back yard and some bonemeal for the shrubs, did groceries and back home..guess I should go change again, clothing is wet and I'm not in for catching a chill...

What are you up to today LindaKay??? is your weather nice enough to enjoy the outside?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty they have never put a high risk on AR, ever, they very very rarely use the high risk monitor at all, and when they do put a risk it's normally slight, once in a while you'll see a moderate risk and it only lasts the amount of time the storm itself is in the area. Right now it's bright, sunny, and humid, and Dr. Greg Forbes says there is a 90% chance of strong long tracking tornadoes, Arkansas being in the main threat zone for tonight. I am worried sick. One night of that is definitely enough and it would not surprise me if we end up in the shelter tonight. I hope to Heavens not, I've been in that shelter 7 times more than my mom has, I swear Arkansas gets more tornadoes than Oklahoma does.

Glenview, IL

Hi...
Betty, Thanks for listing the link to my Thread.
I am so glad to share the stories and photo's with everyone.
And I am having a lot of fun sharing.

Yikes, I sure hope you stay calm Crissy, Will say a quick Prayer that you won't need the shelter, but I am glad you have it just in case.

Our weather was real pretty yesterday. In the 80's but very Windy. Two more huge limbs have fallen, sigh.
I told Steve we are going to have to consider having it removed. It's getting to the scare factor now. Julia won't sleep in her room for fear it's going to come down on her.

I was glad the rain waited until evening. Jake asked if i would go to his Track & field meet and it was held outside. Also, i was so glad i had a book. Since Jake only competes in two fields it was a long, long wait in between. He was disappointed in his shockput throws, only 33.8 feet, Goes to show how much I know, I thought that was a great throw, lol. He is the only freshmen on the team, the others jr & Sr throws were 36-41 feet. The add all the highest scores at the end. They came in 2nd place for the fatmans relay.

Steve is at the house this weekend. He is working on the finishing up the Second floor. He said it was Storming all day. Lightening, thunder and the works! We got hit with a terrential down poor through out the night. Today is gloomy and threatening...
So I am continuing with the Trip.

Betty, wow, you got alot done again. LOL had to laugh at the lawnmower never running out of gas! Too funny, but I do hope you get it fixed. Now, I am excited to see what you are re-creating. I've not started on any crafts. I got lost in a new book series, so on my second book. It's a very lovely stories about a group of ladies learning to knit, and dealing with their individual lives.

Jake went to Great America today with a bunch of friends. He needed 20 dollars so i gave it to him with his word to help me in the yard tomorrow. he already cut the grass and hauled the limbs to the yard.

Oh, how fun, the kids are taking us to A cubs game, I think on Tuesday. We haven't been to a game in a couple of years.

Well, I guess i better get to at least clearing the kitchen...I need more coffee!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Betty, We all went out to the lake for hotdgs and burgers. One of the guys from Todd's shop was celebrating thier 2nd anniversarry, and invited us out there. it was a beautiful day!

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay bet dad loves getting out...nice to be on the lake on a sunshine day...is the lake a long drive off from where you live?
it didn't stop raining until almost 4 here..not sure what they are calling for tomorrow..

If it does rain it will screw up my plans, will have to find an alternative but that's not hard to do..

Judy, I'm much like you, when I start reading I'll read until I finish the book then I get angry with myself because I've nothing to show for it..

Got my afghan done, Cathy dropped in for a few hours to chat, Greg dropped in to see what I needed repaired on my bike for Kyle's bike-a-thon for cancer..saw that I had put 'new bike' on my list for mothers' day, then scratch it off and put patio set for the gazebo..lol..so, going to fix the old one for me..

Trisha, Greg just got back from working in the shop all day, he's making a bike from scratch, says if it's not ready next weekend then will be the weekend after...he has the back metal wheel done, spikes and all..he has a new bike he bought last year but says he wants something a little special..here's the proto-type..

What an accomplishment for Jake, he's really doing well with his sports..Steve never stops does he..am sure the upstairs will be wonderful..how come you didn't go with him?

Cathy trying to tell Greg that she knew how to put the gel seat on..lol

Asked Greg where Kyle was, he's the one that took the original seat off, said there was a spaghetti dinner tonight for community volunteers and Kyle offered to wash dishes, hmmm..you got to wonder about that boy..14 and offering to work?

Gardens are starting to flower...

Victoria Harbour, ON

This garden which is lovely during the summer is slow starting..but, none the less I see green...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, this is the project I want to make a few of for gifts..Greg said he'd check his distributor for the metal ..says it's just copper coated and not all copper...there are about 10 different glass designs I can do, you add water to the glass cup and put ivy in it...

Then he saw the afghan and wool sitting on the couch and I got in trouble..wanted to know what part of 'sit and relax' did I not understand..said that a little birdie told him I had a few episodes in the past few weeks...told me that he and Jeff were going to find me a chair that locks me in from Sat. to Monday morning...

Not a thing to tell me because I asked him the same, he never stops, as though he didn't have enough to do he started this bike...he laughs...guess we're made of the same cloth..

Went on to tell him I'll relax next weekend when he and his brother are at the house doing all my chores on the to do list for mothers day..first thing he says, "hasn't Mother's Day already gone by?" nope...says 'please mom don't tell me it's tomorrow' nope...sigh of relief...lol

Thumbnail by Bettypauze

Afghan using left over wool, almost same as my last...will have to take photo of all the afghans I've done since Christmas...

Soon going to call it a day..

Night/night everyone..

If you are in a storm, please be careful..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, did greag make that bike? That is pretty cool!
Love that brass and blue glass, that is so pretty!

Now you did not tell us you are having more episodes! is it your heeart again? Please take it easy, and don't over do it?

The lake is about 18 miles from us, not too far. We had a great time!

This message was edited May 1, 2010 7:46 PM

Victoria Harbour, ON

Greg is making the same bike LindaKay..he has the back wheel done, 1/2 the frame, guess if it rains today he'll be back at the shop doing more...he's very talented and can make most things but he's a perfectionist..yikes, he'll redo a dozen times just to make sure it's done the right way..me thinks he takes after his dad..

Just toured the gardens, we've had a good downpour, even though it was yesterday I'm imagining that things are much greeneer today..lol..

Deciding what to do, looks as though rain is but hours away, dark heavy sky..hate to take everything out to start my woodworking project only to have to rush back in shortly..guess I'll turn the weather channel on and see what they are calling for... might be a stay in your jammie kind of day...

Being so close to the lake Linda Kay must afford you to make a lot of trips so you can enjoy..what is the name of the lake?

Coffee in hand, upstairs I go to try and decide my day..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is called Lake Amistad. It is a man made lake. I just wish they would truck in som sand and make a nice beach somewhere. All the shores are natural ground, which means it is all rock and gravel.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds lovely though...we've lots of rock here as well along the coastline of Georgian Bay but have a few areas that have beaches sames as Florida and the islands...

Well I've all the 16 little squares made for my April Swap block, going to watch Joel Olsteen Ministries and then sew them together, parcel it up and I'm done my 12 month quilt block swap..hurrah...next month I get my package, that's exciting..

Just turned the heat up down here, wow, fingers are all but frozen..maybe it's warmer outside..

after sewing the block I'll check to see if I can finally go outside to play...

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

Hello - busier than ever.....
Storm of snow/ice/rain hit on Thurs & Friday, snow gone by time work was done.
Streets were awful to drive on - very slippery/slushy, but I didn't have a problem

Still no viewings on our trailer.

Better get back to letting the government know how much we spend so they can "ding" us for how much to pay them back of the $12,000 they say we owe. We don't owe that much, but we have no way of proving it. siiiiiiigh Bob's taxes have always been a nightmare, but it's because we trusted some income tax people.....

Cya later!

Victoria Harbour, ON

wow..can't you go back on the income tax firm? It might be to your benefit to request a meeting with them to review year by year otherwise you'll have no recourse..you can do that still can't you for 7 previous years...ouch that's a lot of $$$..

You sure are getting hit weatherwise..lordy you'd have thought the snow was behind us now..be careful..dangerous driving on icy roads..

Had company drop in this aft. for a visit..nice seeing my summer friends..lol..those who live in the city but have cottages up here..

Having a workshop on the 16 so Christine and her girlfriend will join the others..didn't realize that's only 2 weeks away, mega planning and getting supplies left to do .. better schedule it for this week..

Got 1 lap quilt done for the seniors home..figure if I follow Barb's leave and do 1 a week or try for 20 before Christmas it might be easier to meet my goal..just packaging my quilt block so I can mail tomorrow morning .. think it's an early night, took out steak but not hungry sooo I'll save it for tomorrow..did forget to purchase dog food so before I get too comfy and call it a day best I take a run to the store...

Have you enjoyed your day?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Afternoon everyone! Betty, sounds like your still busy!

Shirley, and update on Tubby? Please let him know we are thinking of him, and still praying for a speedy recovery!

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

HI ALL
I got out today....................YAY

Tubby

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Tubby, that is so nice to hear! Glad your home!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

YAY Tubby's home!! So glad you can get online Tubby!!

Well we made it through the storms! DANG!! Friday night was worse than Saturday night. Friday's started earlier and lasted later, yesterday, even though we got a lot more sun, started slightly later and started calming down around 10:30. Friday's storms didn't start calming down until midnight or so. BUT the storms last night were a lot closer and more threatening to us, we got the northern most tier of a huge thunderhead that had rotation, but the rotation was at the southern most tier of the storm, about 10 miles away and not headed in my direction. I don't think it touched down. I don't know how many warnings last night, but it wasn't anywhere near 79 from Friday.

Betty I love Greg's bike!! That is way cool!! LOL Mother's Day, my mom is going to be in CA for Mother's Day, so I'll have to get her her present on Memorial Day Weekend. I'll pick up a card for her and maybe a gift of some sort. She told me she doesn't want any knickknacks so that really puts a damper on what I'm going to get her. Maybe since I have to go to her house Memorial Day Weekend anyway I'll just take her to dinner or something cool like that, if she will be up to going, she's still in A LOT of pain.

Hang on Susan, it takes time sometimes, but all you need is one buyer. Horrible about the taxes!! Will Betty's advice work for you?

Hi LK and Everyone else!!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lot's of good news this morning..

Tubby so glad you are home and on the mend again..am sure Shirley is relieved..she's been a darling, updating us and gabbing right along with us..she'll have to drop in from time to time..she's such a dear! Now don't you go do anything silly and overdo!!! so nice to see you post...

Crissy am also relieve to see that you weren't hit, when we are at home getting these tornado reports and know our friends are right slap in the middle, well let's say it's worrysome..as for Greg's bike, that is a photo of the one he's making and I can assure you he'll succeed..maybe his mamma can take a ride and look cool..lol Is it another area that your mom has pain in or the same? operation help at all? Mom says the same about knicknacks and it does put a damper on things..she loves her gardens so I bought her that almond shrub that she wanted and I'll give it to her on Friday aft. when she drops in at my work..she'll be thrilled with that... called her last night, her cold is breaking, says she's an ungodly sight, all black and blue, ribs still creating most of the pain..she wasn't impressed that my sister told her it might be time to head into a home where she can have care...oh/oh not a good thing to say....

Thunder/lightning and rain all night long, Sailor sure wasn't a happy camper..even the kitties wanted to stay in..

Slow moving this morning so I must run, have to make the post office before work as well and get that April block out..yikes it will be about a week late, looked at the swap and saw I'm not the only one that is late so don't feel quite as bad..

Off for breakfast and will gab later...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Crissy so glad you had no tornado's. Rain is bad enough. SO many have floods!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have you been enjoying good weather LindaKay..getting out into the gardens?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful weather here Betty! I walk to the gardens every morning, and afternoon, just to see what's new! Things are growing here, just not as fast as I would like, but don't want to rush them, we still have a long hot summer to go through.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty it's the left side, she was hoping since she felt the right side so much, cutting that nerve on the right would take care of it, but the left side is bad also. What's really bad about this is if she gets the same nerve cut on the left side she will loose all bowel control, so she will need a stoma before she can do that, AND when this dr cut the right side he told her he would NOT cut the left. She has emailed him and asked him about cutting the left side, or a branch of the main nerve or something. He responded a couple of weeks ago with, "I'm thinking about it, I'll let you know." I've told her 'Don't email him anymore, let him email you.'

It's supposed to be close to 90* today.

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!

Yayy, So glad your home Tubby! Yep sure in agreement with Betty about your Shirley. She has been wonderful keeping us informed.
Also enjoyed chatting a bit.

Betty, Wow, that is a very cool bike! Nice to hear about the progress too. Well, I sure hope you'll get your bike fixed soon, but I do hope to see a picture you on Gregs drag bike, complete with helmet and shades.
So happy you've finished your April Blocks! I bet your thrilled that swap is done, oh and We will be looking forward to seeing what you receive...OH my gosh, i completely forgot I need to take photos. Recieved my May towel from Cindy and hummingbird windchime from Melissa! LOL, I better get on the ball here..
Always nice to Roam around the gardens and see whats coming up. LOL, got my hands full with the jungles, amazing how quick weeds grow! We've cut the grass 2 already and with the rains it needs to be done again...
Betty, I love the ivy stand, that will make beautiful gifts. Smiling as i say, can't wait to see yours.

I am way behind on posting everywhere, geesh. I am glad you all came to see my vacation thread, hope you are all continuing to enjoy the show. Sorry it gets interrupted so much.

Hey Linda Kay, How nice to go to the lake. lol, I am sure it's neat to see your lovely gardens, gant rush beauty but its fun to anticipate whats to come....My roses are doing splendid. The lamb's ears came back nicely and how exciting, The sedum made a comeback as well...Working on a plan to fence the section in.
We had to remove the Arbor Vitaes in the front because the deer took no mercy on them again this year. So trying to decided what to replace them with.

Linda kay, keep forgetting to say how adorable your little bitty kitten is!! Awe your dad must be loving to play with him and you too.

Today is going to be busy. Julia and I cleaned the house yesterday so it' laundry and get into the yard...Will try and add some new photos of Italy today too.

Crissy, glad you didn't have any tornados. So sorry for mom issues. I hope the procedure works.

Susan, wishing you luck on the viewing the trailor. Did I read somewhere you got a promotion?? if so then yay big congratulations to you.

Getting more coffee now, roam around the threads for a bit.
Hope you all have a sunshiney kind of day!
