Morning all...brrr another cold day..normal temps for this time of year it's just that we got spoilt earlier in the month, warm weather is a coming though!!!!

Warm and comfy in this room...we moved from here:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1084945/

Did a walk in the gardens this morning, weather isn't stunting growth, lordy everything is such a lush green.

Debbie sorry to hear you are under the weather, yikes pickles, do they not agree with you? How's Paul doing...I'm so hoping you'll be at Hamburg Craft show on Saturday, we'll have to tentatively think of a location to meet..so dear girl, get well soon..

Was thrilled with what I accomplished this weekend, finished the tote pocket bag, hockey rag quilt for Caleb, just a few things to do to the stained glass hanging frame, bit more work to a floormatt, ooops / shhhh it's for a swap..lol...I didn't go anywhere all weekend and that's a plus, just staying home and enjoying the myself and enjoying family/friends who dropped in....

Thanks for the nice words on Marg's project..baby shower is this weekend and she so wanted a clock to match the quilt top..it made her day..well worth it..this lady, think I told some of you in previous posts, was the most ambitious woman I know..part of my recreation area was MacTier and she was on many of my commities, never was a woman organize and fund raise as my Marg...now older, almost forgotten for her works in the community she struggles with depression...it will be a year next month that her hubby passed on, her girlfriend recently so it's nice that she took the initiative to come out for the day...

Slow moving this morning, it's one of those days you'd love to call in sick but can't be sick on a Monday and then not come in on Friday so off I go with project bag in hand..

Thanks for the new room Betty. Sounds like your weekend was relaxing. I went to my BOM class on Saturday and then had some of the kids in for Norm's B'day. Yucky rainy day and cold!! Yesterday we went to Stacy's for burgers on the grill and to celebrate some more. Got home just before the heavens opened up again.
This morning the sun is shining but it is definitely cold out!! It's not supposed to go above 40 today.. My poor perrenials don't know what to do. I have forsythia blooming and a cherry tree that doesn't dare to. I have just a couple blossoms on my azalea but my quince is just loaded with buds. My lilies are all up about 4 inches and the leaves are bursting on the lilac. All they want is a little bit of WARM sun. But then that's all I want too.....
Today is housework before sewing so I'll see what the day brings. Hope everyone has a great one.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Betty and Barb! Followed that wonderful smell of cinnamon to the new room!
Hope you all have a wonderful day. I will leave you with a rose that opened for me this week-end! It has the most wonderful smell!
Tubby, hope you had a wonderful Birthday!

morning all,

just got word judy and steve stranded guess there in the area of this ash cloud. hoping to get a flight out tomorrow
oh what a way to end a wonderful trip geeez

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Wonder if they can afford to continue vacationing...

Susan I had a thought and I forgot what I was going to say...

Betty I've thought about making them and selling them, but my time would be devoted to that and I have such little time now I don't want to take that on yet. I never knew I had the talent! Thanks Everyone!!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

It's only 58* here today, and cloudy. BRRR!!! I have Desert Rose seeds sprouting, if they don't get to cold! A couple of them are trying to send down little roots!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Not to worry Crissy - I often have thoughts, and forget 'em!

Victoria Harbour, ON

YIKES it's almost noon and I haven't stopped for 2 seconds...so busy, unusual for me...lot's of calls/changes came in over the weekend..busy enough that I have to bring in staff to handle assessments on Wednesday...now I get to relax..for a change I've earned my keep..lol

Stranded, omg that could be good news, they might get more of a holiday but would they be given a different flight to get home at no cost..someone was saying if you booked through travel agency then 'yes' if you booked privately you'd have to fight for it..now isn't that a pickle they are in...

Barb, glad you enjoyed your weekend, always nice to have family/friends around..we must have same weather..my forynthia's are in bloom and beautiful..checked on my 2 ninebark this morning, they did well, maybe it's because I didn't disturb them from the pots I purchased them in on Friday..all my shrubs are doing great, even my azalea is budding..nice here today but brrr wind is cold..was listening to the news this morning, they were saying if this Iceland ash arrives here (now in Newfoundland) that we'll have a very bad summer...drats, just after them saying it would be warm, so blow hard everyone, keep it on that side of the pond..

Crissy, always something you an fall back on when you hit my age..lol..enjoy yourself now, forget about the crafts...I'm sure Dave is a full time hobby anyway...

Susan, how are you this morning? what a terrible time you are having..sending you hugs..

Audrey, going to have to check what Desert Rose looks like..that must be quite an endeavor to start a rose from seed??? I have wild roses growing along the side of my back deck..planted them I think they were about 2' high, bet you they are about 8-10' in just 3 years..might regret having them where they were..heard a few choice words from Greg when he was putting up my clothesline on Friday night, wow he said they were prickly things....

Kyle went back to the specialist on Saturday, says everything is going well in the healing process and doesn't have to go back for 6 weeks...am sure Mel / Greg are relieved..it's quite a ride to sit in Dr.'s office most of the day just waiting...and waiting...and waiting..never on time..Kyle texted me on Saturday, said they got there at 9am as requested and it was 11am and he'd not been seen yet..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Geesh, you would think they would schedule patients better than that! it goes like that most of the time here too! Appointment at 9, and lucky if we get out by noon!
Betty, sounds like your yard is starting to bloom out very nice.
Glad to hear the good news on his hand healing nicely.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, Desert Rose isn't really a rose. It's a tropical plant with a caudex, (don't ask ne the technical terms) the base gets big and fat and it branches out from the top. Look for it in plant files, they're really pretty! The blooms are on the branches and top.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/72297/
Betty, I think this is what they are talking about! it is very pretty.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Isn't that the prettiest..not sure I've seen one .. will have to check the nurseries here...too adorable...

Yes LindaKay, can't believe the growth, of course I want more growth to hide the pond and the secret garden...isn't that awful, never satisfied...

Talking about satisfied, my mom sure is going through tough times..called me at work this morning and she lost her OHIP (medal insurance) card, that annoyed her to no end because when the original is replaced you have to get the new i.d. card, must wait in line forever and a day, get photo taken, show 3 pieces of original i.d. and it has to be renewed every 5 years..she tells me she won't need it in 5 years, she'll be dead..then she says Kim, my SIL called this morning to check on her and said if she needed anything to give her a call..mom said she wanted to go to the hospital re her knees and had called Kim but no answer so annoyed at that..just annoyed/annoyed/annoyed...guess it's because she's not well..I told her not to worry about going across the border this weekend as I personally think it's too much for her at this time, still wants to go so we'll see on Friday..regardless, I'd take a run over to the craft show with a few friends on Saturday even if she isn't up to it.. we could go another weekend I'm sure!!! MOTHERS - get my drift???? ahhhh best I not forget I am a Mother...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Sorry to hear about Judy and Steve, but I was wondering when I saw so many flights were being delayed due to all the ash over the pond there.....

I know I've been MIA, but I just haven't felt good and didn't want to be a burden....had the 2nd appt with the OB and got to hear peanuts heartbeat for a minute. Nothing else exciting going on, just wanted to check in...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Stacey, please don't feel like your a burden! You are more than welcome here! So just bring yourself back, and chat anytime you want!
Must have been pretty nice to hear "peanut's" heartbeat?

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Stacey, what a feeling it must have been to hear the heartbeat..sad to say in my day you didn't get to know the sex nor hear the heartbeat..was DH with you???

I'm with LindaKay, don't you not come here just because you are ill or having difficulties right now, we want to be a support group for you, friends we are..as well, we take great joy in hearing the miracles of life that happen...

IS your morning sickness still giving you problems? now how long before you find out if we'll have a niece or nephew..lol???

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

It will be mid June B4 we know the sex. Chris didn't go to this one since I got a gyn exam too, and I don't know if he will want to go to the next one either since it won't be anything real exciting. I have the sickness worst in the am and at night, feeling nautious most of the rest of the day. I got some meds that I take 1st thing I get up and at night. If I am at work, I take one mid day too so I can make it through the day. We both want a girl, but Chris thinks because I am so gassy that it has to be a boy in there!!LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

He could be right Stacey lol..here's hoping it's a little girl....love my grandsons to death but sure wish there was a little girl somewhere for me to spoil...out of luck...

What a terrible feeling..nausea..yikes, bet it's hard to get through the day..it will soon be over and so worthwhile, within minutes you'll forget all these hardships..promise..lol

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Glad you checked in, Stacey! I was wondering about you!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All -

Just popping in for a bit.

Thank you Betty for your kind words....I'm still stinging a bit from DS and you were absolutely right...heartbroken was a good word....

I have some pretty flowers now.. need to go take pics and post them... (purple iris ...finally Crissy!......and a beautiful RED amaryllis)

Maybe I'll get out there tomorrow and take them... Leaving Thursday for High School Band Trip. DS18 being VERY nice and careful with me and he KNOWS he hurt my feelings..

The band trip is in Panama City, FL. MY Dad said he and his wife would drop by for dinner our first night there and Sister will try to stop by the Band Performance so I am glad to get to see Family on my first vacation in FOREVER it seems... (Even though I am chaperoning... so not sure how much RELAXING will take place)

Hugs to all,
Mary

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hey all - just a quick "pop-in"
Thank you Betty - your hugs must be what's done it, cuz I had a better day today.

Didn't hurt that I got my Performance Appraisal from my boss, and he says (quote) "Susan is a cheerful, hard worker who is respected, admired and needed by the people with whom she works." and
"Susan communicates an overwhelming interest in others. Her cheerfulness and positive attitude make her a joy to have around. " AND "Susan goes far and beyond the expected limit to help others and accomplish goals." AND "Susan does much more than is required to help her customers whether internal or external." (end quote).
Wow, eh? He's sent this to HR, and he's trying to get me another raise (had my "incremental" one, 2 weeks ago).

It's Administrative Professionals (Secretary's) Week, and he's invited all the physicians, managers, and others to take me out for lunch on Thursday ^_^
What a guy, eh?!?!
I'm so lucky to be working with such a group! He told me 100% of them enjoy working with me!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susan, that is a great performance report! It shows you work hard, and enjoy doing your work! Great job! Praying you get that raise!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Three cheers Susan - that's a wonderful appraisal. You have every right to feel very proud.
Hoping the sale of your home starts to show promise soon.
I wondered about Judy getting stuck in Italy. I hope they are coping well and get home soon.
Stacey just keep telling yourself that "This too shall pass" and it really will. Sounds like things are going well and I'm so glad you got to hear a heartbeat. It is truly a wonder.
Betty I sometimes wonder what my kids say about me too. That's why I try to stay so neutral on everything with them.. I keep telling them it's their lives to live.
House is clean - I'm off to sew.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Susan-how nice and rare these days for a boss to truly appreciate you. It seems so many nowadays with the economy figure there are 10 others out there that can do your job and YOU should be the appreciative one. Your boss sounds like a wonderful person!! Congrats!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Wow, Susan, you cannot ask for a better performance review than that..let's hope it brings more $$$ for you....walk tall girl, you deserve it! They say (who says..lol) that things come in 3's so just maybe someone will purchase your home so you can start the next phase of your lives...
I'd better remind Paul it's Secretary week...

Stacey, isn't that the way..guess we are lucky to have employmedn..big thing going on here in Ontario..over 17 million is spent on hiring substitude teachers and where are they hiring from? hiring teachers who are retired and get great pensions, young teachers just out school hunting badly for jobs...apparently they will try to change the system..let's hope..we old foggies had our chance now it's the young ones...

LOL Barb, yep, goodness knows what the kids say about us..I too try to keep out of my children's personal lives, but boy would I at times like to get involved..guess I got the hint years ago when one of them bought me a t-shirt that had the Lord with his hand over my mouth..

When Jeff and Lisa divorced about 10 years ago her mother wrote me a nasty note to say she and her hubby had tried everything to get them to work things out, why hadn't I? anyway, today Jeff and Lisa are best friends and I still say Lisa is my DIL..she's adorable, great mother, kids are being brought up right..better that they divorced and started new lives than have a home full of hatred..kids are well adjusted so I thank the Lord for that and had I gotten involved, wonder if she and I would still have a great relationship??????

Bernie just called, they got home late last night, plane broke down on runway, 8 hr. wait at Chicago airport but other than that they had a wonderful vacation in California...

First thing he asked, 'how did your flower outhouse turn out' drats, knew he'd ask me that...told him the weekend before last it rained, last weekend it was just toooo cold and this weekend I'm away ... his response was that the wood and metal should have been brought to his house so WE could work in the shop to make it where it is warm and all the tools are at our disposal..ok with me, then he said he might be going to Midland, if he does, he'll drop by and pick up the supplies and I can go to his shop one day and do it...doesn't that sound like a plan..aren't I spoilt...

Last night going home I thought the car was very loud, again this morning sounded even louder, told Bernie I'd drop in on my way home tonight and see what he things..trying to figure out how I can get to work, get it fixed, go across the border all in a few days..yikes, wouldn't you know, doesn't it always happen..put $$$ away to enjoy yourself and something breaks...that's life I guess...

Mary lucky you to be getting flowers already, now tell me, because they start so soon what month does your garden start to fade..mine is end of August/start of September???? I'm sure Mary once you are on the road you'll be fine and seeing family well that just tops the cake...

Stopped in at Walmart in Barrie here this morning, didn't go anywhere near the garden center..needed more beige wool to finish this afghan, knew I'd have all day to fill with little or no work so now it's play time...

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty, check your oil! Sometimes if it gets low the engine will be louder.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Audrey, just had an oil change about 2 weeks ago..me thinks it could be transmission or who knows maybe a hole in the exhaust...hoping Bernie might have an answer or two as he works a lot on vehicles..because I have extended warrantee though it will go to dealership

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, sure hope your car is an easy, and cheap fix. Don't want it to take away from your shopping week-end!
Sure was nice of Barrie to offer his shop, for you to get the outhouse done in.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes Linda Kay, he's special..

Not sure when vehicle is under warrantee just how much they charge, guess you pay for parts but they cover servicing??? oh well, need a car so not much I can do...

Just talked with mom, she found her health card...she had left it at the pharmacy, shaking my head here...SIL Kim was there visiting with her...Mom said she was at emerge for 6 1/2 hrs. last night, told the nurse she was looking for cortizone (?) injection to help the pain..after waiting that long Dr. said they don't give the injection..she wasn't pleased..I told her to wait a few weeks and we'd go to Buffalo, didn't tell her though I'd go myself..she's bound she's ok to go, I personally don't think so..can see myself sitting in a hotel room for 3 days....guess I could be doing worse things..best I pack a craft bag to take with me...

Then Paul came out to me and said he had to go to emerge, says he thinks he has shingles..lordy...bunch of sickies today...

Judy, did you make it home yet?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty shingles can be quite painful, and can take a long time to heal. They come from him having chicken pox when he was younger!
Glad your Mom found her health card! Sad they made her sit there that long, only to be told sorry, we don't do that here!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I was able to change his appt. till tomorrow so he's gone to see if indeed that's what it is..he keyed on all signs he's displaying and it came up with shingles, he just got back from Jamaica so who knows it might be something he caught there...

Her doctor doesn't return until Monday..she's managed to get an appt. for tomorrow at 10am at a sports clinic..not sure they do it either but she's going to try...Kim made her the appt. so perhaps she asked...

It's 66 outside, lovely day..I walked over to the restaurant and got a salad, sitting here with feet up relaxing..LeeAnn (my niece)'s husband dropped into the office, he's a mechanic, he took vehicle out and did some shifting says transmission as far as he can see is working..he thinks it could be a wheelbearing...maybe I can hitch a ride in tomorrow and have Bernie change it then pick me up after work...what are young brothers for but to look after older sister...

Speaking of older, omg I listen to channel 1500 on the radio driving in mornings and there is a religious talk show on..he was talking about life/death situations, health issues...all of a sudden he says 'I was looking out the church window this morning and saw an elderly lady, dressed in sportswear, jogging, taking a break - she must have been 60' and goes on and on..I'm thinking to myself..lordy preacher, 60 is not THAT old!!! yikes, wonder how old he is...lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty that preacher must be 20 something to think 60 is old!! Hope it is a wheel barring, all of those noises you're saying make complete different sounds, and a manual transmission shouldn't have any problems unless your grinding gears. :p

Good grief I've been running my head off today and feel like I've gotten nowhere!

Glenview, IL

Hi, 2nd. time trying to check in...LOL...
Well we are in Spain!!
Suppose to get on a flight to Chicago tomorrow.

OMG, tons of photos and stories...

Happy Birthday Tubby, a bit late but yay Happy birthday to you again..
Waiving hi to all...see you soon ...
Got ta go...hugs
Judy misss yas.

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG, don't remember Judy saying she was going to Spain!!!! wow, anxious to hear her stories...

Kyle just left..omg can that boy talk...lol...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Judy! Sounds like your goping south to avoid the ash clouds! Good luck on your flight home!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All !

Betty - You've got me thinking.... how late does the garden still thrive? I'm not sure...I'll look back at pics from last year... the Amaryllis and Iris bloom first ...before the pool is warm enough to be used... I kinda wish they would bloom later...they are SO beautiful! but they do good to bring Spring Cheer....and we'll hopefully have other blooms in June/July.....

Yes - Betty - I am REALLY looking forward to this trip albeit a short one... although as with everyone trying to get out of town...the closer you get...the more there is to do...doesn't help that the clothes washer broke down... LOL... always something...

SUSAN ! CONGRATULATIONS! YOU deserve that So much! It wasn't given to you...it was an honor you earned and I can definitely see why as cheerful as you remain under all that stress.... you are definitely someone to look up to !

Betty - You did good staying neutral during DS divorce... I completely understand that... My MIL is the same way... she tries to help out 'behind the scenes' ...as I'm sure you did and still do... I mean... those are your DGK's and you want to maintain a good relationship with their mom.... no matter what the parent's difficulties.....

Waving to all! Hello Judy ! In Spain! My Niece studying in Italy is on FB....noting some different ways back to the states...and she wasn't leaving until mid-May.... I sure hope there are other options soon!

Headed to my pics to see if I can answer Betty's question...I am curious myself... as I do not plant winter annuals because...well....no one really goes back there when it gets cold...

Hugs,
Mary

Baton Rouge, LA

This Pic is in my November files... Not sure when it was taken...but it depicts the closest hibiscus (which is coming back) and other plants which may...or may NOT be coming back....

Hugs,
Mary

Dropped into Bernie's last night but he was away pricing a job, thought he might be back in a 1/2 hr. but I just wanted to get home, will stop in tonight..

Mary, not sure why you would want to go away for a vacation, you've a tropical setting right in your own backyard.. love the hibiscus..know the feeling about getting ready for even a weekend, with living alone I have to get food in for Cathy who looks after the furries, get my clothes ready..just those little extra things you need to do..almost as much as packing to go away on a 2 week trek..all and all, still fun though...

Yep, keep peace in the family, even with DIL..she's remarried and has a 2 year old, when making the rag quilts for the grandchildren I had left-over blocks so am making him one as well..family is family..

Just came in from doing my garden walk, so close to frost this morning, brrr....of course just in my jammies so that doesn't help..each morning I see new growth..should be out getting rid of weeds but I read that much more would be in the gardens if people would only wait, so patient I'll be..giving it another 2 weeks and then I'll be all gung ho...

Couldn't believe the flowering crabs, I'm sure it won't be long and they will be in bloom..they are young trees so nothing spectacular this year but they did make the winter!!!

Just fell asleep last night and Suzanne called regarding Paul and shingles..her concern was she has never had chicken pox and apparently when you have shingles you don't pass on shingles but you can pass on the virus for chicken pox so she's worrying about that...

After her call I couldn't get back to sleep so came downstairs and gave a few coats of finish to a project I'm working on for a swap that I want to post of Friday your side of the border, this morning gave a few more coats, another few tonight and project done..

Then my thoughts last night went back to Kyle, my goodness he's becoming a man..he must have grown 1' over the past year, filling out, lordy his dad is 6'3" and wouldn't doubt Kyle will at least reach his heigth..

He was here to tell me that he contacted the Dock Radio Station and they are giving him 2 weeks of adv. for his 2nd Annual "Kyles Ride for the Cure" and that the Tay Gazette will do his posters and put an add in it and that the IGA Grocery Store has agreed to sponsor by providing juice boxes, water and fruit for the participants...he wasn't thrilled that the Cancer Society said his pledge forms were sent by UPS 2 weeks ago and he's not received them...went on to tell me that he now is set up witht he Cancer Society on-line for anyone wishing to pledge..he sure is taking this seriously..as always, this grandma is proud of him... too funny, how many kids do you know that say the teachers aren't teaching enough? lol

Well, best I get my coffee and porridge!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Morning!!! Betty-I sure hope you get the car thing figured out!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Betty. Best they both talk to the Dr, and see if shwe will be in danger of getting chicken pox, and or shingles. Maybe she can get a shot for it? Did they verify it was shingles?
Sounds like you are so proud of Kyle, and all the volunteer work he does! Sounds like they all have a good head on thier shoulders!
Hope you get your car fixed soon.

Tubby, are you lurking? Just wanted to say hello to you and Shirley! Hope your getting enough sleep.

Mary, your garden is very nice! Like the rest of us, we are all anxiously waiting for things to come back from last year.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning Stacey! How are you feeling? You going to work today?
