True, and they do beautiful work!
Coffee Break #37 - Best time of year!
Yes they do.
Just what you've been waiting for, ladies!!

Hee hee!
My son & DIL bought Moosewood furniture, Pixie...they got Grant's new bed from someplace here in CT... Kloter Farms maybe...they make wooden furniture. Not sure I like the idea of that spray.....who needs hubby watching the chick flicks, too.
But if we put that calm-inducing chemical in the world's entire water supply, we could finally have WORLD PEACE !!!
Let's start with the Middle East, ok?
I doubt it works THAT well!
Wow, how horrible is that oil spill! Crazy that they're just mobilizing now, after nine days! Unusual for a platform accident. Usually the ships are the weak link.
The oil is still flowing out. Often they can cap wells, but I guess that under water is different.
210,000 gallons of oil /day, (if guesstimates are correct).

Being in the industry I will say that I hope they make BP pay BIG time for this. Although that will not mitigate the horrendous damage this has caused and will continue to cause for a long time. There is no excuse for this. Although the cause of the spill may not have been preventable, the spill itself could and should have been contained. There is a good reason that responsible O&G companies spend millions on Sprill Contingency Plans and the necessary equipment to respond to spills even though they may never have a spill. Many companies do not drill offshore because this cost makes it prohibitive. (Note to self: Duck when walking by the BP building).
Did they ever find out what actually caused the explosion?
Not that I've heard flowerjen and BP isn't talking about it locally. They are probably under a gag order but that is just what I suspect and in no way a fact. It happens in this business when bad things happen.
Will be worse than the Alaska spill.
Already is methinks :(
Both BP and the government screwed up on this one.
Agreed....heard on NPR this morn that they still don't know what caused the explosion, & that BP is paying.
Very nice vid Allison, thanks
BP probably paid the most in bidding for the lease.
Sherrie - even the Chinese and Russians drill in the Gulf!
Interestingly 'British Petro' no longer exists, it has been renamed 'BP' since 2000, with no meaning given to the letters. The company has it's headquarters in London but it's major stock holders are not British. It's a private company, not a 'national' company. (a couple of residents of the Netherlands & India own a big chunk of it)
Didn't they merge with Amoco?
Yes, Amoco is now part of BP.
We'll always have accidents like these as long as we drill for oil, (should be called black poison instead of black gold...), in ecologically sensitive areas. That begs the question: What part of the Earth is NOT ecologically sensitive?? Even the deserts and the polar Ice caps are important to the overall well being of the Earth, it's like a domino effect, everything is dependent on something else for stability & health.
This search and need to control oil is killing us, (in more ways than one).
& they want to drill in more places offshore. There are reasons for not doing so.
Spills are certainly a disaster of the highest magnitude, but they are relatively rare - especially from offshore rigs. There are many in the north sea - just about the worst weather place on earth, and there have been no major accidents.
I would love to blink my eyes and find we no longer need oil, gas or coal, but they simply is not going to happen in our lifetime. As a major advocate of renewable sources, and one who put his money where his mouth is, they will just not replace the fossils for a long time - at least not without paying prohibitive amounts.
So the question remains, do we get it for ourselves or forever be beholden to countries who hate us?
And I left out the NIMBY factor, as we see with the Cape Cod wind project, as well as many other large-scale projects. People don't like large mirror arrays, they worry about birds with windmills, fish with hydro. Goldilocks doesn't exist!
Maybe not, but the 3 bears do! ☺
With oil, hopefully electric vehicles will really put a dent in the need for gasoline. Transportation is by far the number one use for oil. However, there still are many products that are petroleum-based. Not sure how quickly that can be replaced.
Thanks Allison for the hummers....never knew they ate bugs....wish we had such pretty colored ones here.
2nd oil rig overturns off Louisiana.

"Protection by Redundancy" should/would be required of every corporation/business that is granted permission to "harvest" natural resources.
Unfortunately, legislation can be lax due to corporate lobbying.
As long as a vote is "for sale" in Congress, laws will never be strict enough to contain WEAK safety standards.
