219 genes make the difference 2

The dots are sometimes red like Ten Ten.

In KU's collection there are at least 6 or 7 cultivars Speckled red ( Q 0155, 0161, 0185, 962, 1213, 1280 ) and yet this type of MG is rare in our collections. It is true that 3 out of 23 genes cause pollen sterility.

The very double "mutants" are sometimes dots too.
Here Q 0962 .

Until a very dark (brown - black).

But it is in the Karen (gardener2005) collection that we can see the finest quality of Speckled MG. She is the QUEEN of Speckled varieties, it is incredible: it should be banned! LOL.
Take a look on her flickr !

Dany - This one looks like Silver Wolf in blizzard form! The color is very unique! I love it!

Did you take most of the Fujishibori photos? I was wondering if you were able to see them in person or are these internet photos?

The Fujishibori or Speckled blooms always fascinate me. Thanks for sharing all the different ones. I haven't even seen photos of some of those! They are in my top 10 favorites.

Thanks for posting Karen's photos link! She has some real beauties!

I am growing two right now. One is purple and the other is supposed to be blue speckled. I also have just a couple of seeds left of a very clear/light speckled Kai no Kasumi: http://www.onalee.com/catalog.php/onaleeisrael/dt66287/pd1741807/Japanese_Morning_Glory_Seeds_Kai_no_Kasumi_Ipomoea_Nil#IMAGES Unfortunately, I am not having much luck getting them to germinate, so have wasted several seeds already. I will keep trying until I get one to germinate and grow.

Anyone know of a source where I can get dark pink/reddish blooming fujishibori seeds? I am wanting to experiment with crossing the fujishibori with other I. nils. ;-)

When I find a good image in Japan is a duty to show the DG.
Here is one of my photos, cultivar very interesting because the flower does not show tube reverse.

But needs a small modification to make it perfect - before removing the dried flower!

The only speckled JMG that is red large round flowered and commercially available is Kanoko, to my recollection.

Good luck trying to find that one on the market.

Love your blue and white speckled pic Dany. The Winter Galaxy is
also very special.

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

The Kanoko here in America is a challenge to get seeds from it. I managed to get 6 seeds from 3 vines.

Dany, That is funny. I almost fell out of my chair laughing. I love all the beautiful pictures. We need something to look forward to each day.

I just bought 6 seeds for 150 yen (1.66 dollars) by misty_violet on yahoo jp.in Japan.
The cultivar name is Owa Bell - Kanoko.
The presentation picture was this one. I need glasses!
