Today's Weather in Your Garden - 65

Thomaston, CT

Wow, glad we missed all that weather....SW CT was hit the hardest, but lots of trees down in my son's town in NW CT...that town always gets it! Nothing down in our yard, power stayed on, basement is dry...today is sunny, in the 50s later this pm....

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

my wife works 5 to 6 minutes from here - because of the roads being under water, she and everyone else around here were diverted through the center of town - took her over an hour to get to work this morning!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Lots of potholes in the streets here, I think they're using the cheap stuff to make roads these days.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Gorgeous out, but a chilly breeze. Will start cutting back and cleaning up around the patio area. The ground is still saturated. Like walking on a sponge.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Shock! Al Gore attributed last week's storm in the NE to global warming.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

46 and sunny. The ground is starting to firm up.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

More like improperly prepared base WC. Ric

Or they didnt put enough in and it scattered. Oh what a day !!!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, I agree that today's blacktop, with all the recycled stuff in it, does not work as well.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

please tell al that in 1938 we had a worse storm.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

there is a smattering of peepers beginning to sing here!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

It must be that cat visiting again & leaving those 'little presents'!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

the nashua river here is within .02 ft of matching the 1938 second highest recorderd level - currently 14.06 ft - in with a bronze medal, hoping for a clean silver medal!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow. Surf's up, dude!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

A deep drainable base is key to blacktop staying where you put it, especially north of the Mason Dixon. I agree the quality may be a problem also. But if you build a road that holds water and freezes, it acts like pop corn. You will never see a railroad laid on mud! Ric

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I don't know what it is but they re-built a major road here and now it's the pits! ('literally', lol!)
I used to take that road and now I avoid it, not 5mos after it's been 're-built'!
- Also, what they patch up dissolves into pebbles that hit your windshield until it all comes out and then you have the hole again.. lousy! I keep thinking that these contracts are given out by bids and the lowest bid wins... they must be skimping on something or else getting 'green' civil engineers..

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the potholes breaking up is job security

34 now going to 63!!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

You're right about that! It's like morticians, they're never out of work! (lol!)

29°, wind SE 0.0mph, clear
am frost

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

28 here and going to get in the high fifties - first wood duck sighting this morning - like watching fly up and roost in the trees.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

33 and sunny. Chilly start but a great day coming. Even better the next few days. Spring weather!!!!!!!!!!!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Frosty but sunny out there this am. Temp right at freezing now and should get to....60s! Gotta love that. Hope to finish front edging today. Spring seems to have sprung! Yippee!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Going up to 66 today and sunny....NICE!!!!

Heard the peepers north of here when we were coming home last night

Thomaston, CT

High 50s here today...mucho water behind dam...spoke to the ranger yesterday...said they had 41' behind dam on Mon., down to 27' when I saw it, though still looked impressive. Also told me about the bear he saw last fall---he thought it was someone's dog & he was whistling for it---when it turned to look at him he about died!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

He must have been looking for a big dog!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Gorgeous out there. I'll be out in a few minutes. Cooling down from my elliptical workout.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

It's beautful out, been raking for an hour and needed top come in for a drink. No indoor excercise for me!!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

exactly - i do the elliptical before dinner - make good edging progress and placed some large rocks/boulders in a couple beds - i think i have two worthy stone stems for mushrooms

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

50 and sunny here.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

great day out there - just checked the water level and we are at 14.07 and holding fast - does not look like water will reach the 14.08 level of 1938.

Time for shorts and its only March!

South Hamilton, MA

57° Water down 2" so at last it has stopped seeping in. DH went out & bought a couple electric heaters, one downstairs & one for the bedroom. He closed that door so perhaps it will warmup.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

59*F and going up, just beautyful out. Been hacking at our juniper hedge that has massive damage from the snow. I've probably cut 3 truckloads and have 12 more to do if it stops there. Ric

Perfect day. Got a decent amount done before my back was hurting. Sat in the hot tub and then took a shower. Sunny and 67.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

got half the backyard edged and removed more grass!!

Thomaston, CT

Come on down to CT---I've all kinds of projects, but today I checked on fences---only Lowe's has them in---raked three bags of stuff up, & took the dogs for their walks. I wanted to get more raking done, but I'm beat...temp was 65 here at 3pm. Love it.

South Hamilton, MA

Uncovered a few dwarf iris plants, must work slowly now. Warmer outside than in. Hope more of outside temps tomorrow.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Another sure sign of spring - our local ice cream place has opened!

Noticed that my sunrise was 7:04 AM. Sunset was 7:04 PM. That's another sign of being very close to equinox.
