41 and windy. Another ugly one but the end is in sight!
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 65
36 and raining - spotted the first two mallards of the year this morning in the "lake" in back.
Last rainy day this week. Cold steady rain this am, temp 37 degrees. NE wind a little stronger than average at 10 -20 mph and stronger gusts. High for today will struggle to get into the 40s. The usual rivers are now flooding and watches are on several local dams. Sump pump working away. Starting tomorrow the week ahead looks just lovely with several days with 60 for forecast highs. Think I will do the edging tomorrow and cross off one spring chore since all the beds will be too soggy to stomp about on and the cutting tool works best on damp soil.
that is my plan as well pat.
not here - just checked the nashua river information on-line - expected to crest at 14' over the next day or so - this is higher than 2 years ago when the river flooded out many roads and made for an additional 30 minute commute home - was within 2 miles of getting home - the old can't get there from here any easy way. highest recorded levels since 1938.

48*F and still overcast. I want to feel some sunshine on my bones! Ric
They are saying that they will probably have to close down a section of rt.128 up by Andover at some point due to flooding. Even after the rain stops the flooding will continue down stream as the water finds it's way into larger streams and rivers. I hope this spring and early summer is not a soggy as last year. Rain is usually a good thing but not everyday for two weeks straight. A bit more in the way of sunny days please this year.
If it's like last year we'll watch spring through a wet window! lol!
think positive thoughts folks:)
pump in the basement still working away, thought that the rain was supposed to taper off this p.m. Just back from lunch at a restraurant near the Essex river. It usually winds along even at high tide, but now the usual bank is under water & constant waves. DH just came upstairs & reported water was rising even with the pump going. He feels that he may have to cut the furness if it keeps up. Fire was laid in the fireplace last night & it is not as cold as it was the last wk in Feb.
Oh boy. Can you borrow another pump?
not supposed to stop till about 10 this evening lucy - hope the pump keeps the water level down for you.
He says 'no'. He says it can work on for several hrs. Just working less efficiently at the moment & water coming in faster. It's just the 3rd day of rain without stopping. Just a steady flow.
Hubby has to get more wood pellets out of the shed to dry this place out.
It feels soooo damp.
Raining again. Nasty out.
State of emergency was declared in NJ because of all the flooding and power outages.

48 and cloudy. Rained this am and the wind off the lake is making it kind of raw. IrisMA, I hope you had a nice lunch!
yes indeed. water in the basement not so nice. Have not had that problem in awhile.
good luck to you Iris... hope all goes well
DH has turned off the furness untol things improve after checking with the fuel co. It's getting a little chilly, so will put on heavy sweater. I suspect fireplace will be in use after dinner. rain is slowing down, but water is still coming off the hill next door. It is spring, isn't it?
Actually it begins on March 20th, 1:32pm EST
the rain has finally stopped!!!...45 now going to 55.. took Randy 2 hours to make a 40 min drive to work.. said route 80 was all messed up by Parsippany they have exits closed off
37° DH had to turn off the furnace last night to keep water from interferring. So quite cold. I'll be glad when it is back on as we don't have hot water. Should be better as I can see that the discharge into the backyard is slower.
South Berwick, Maine got 9.5 inches of rain, swelled all the rivers here too. Bridge that connects Berwick, Maine to New Hampshire is shut down for the next 24 hours due to flood waters.
Sun is shinning now, high of 55 today!!!!
44*F already, and there is this unfamiliar light on the eastern horizon which can only mean one of a few things: I'm on vacation (not), Armageddon (not likely), it quit raining (possibly), or I'm up too early and seeing sunrise (not likely but possible). I'll figure it out after my second cup of coffee. LOL Ric
Pixie, it may be closed longer if they have to inspect it.

Wow - sunny! 43 and windy.
What a tease. The sun is fading away already.
Looking good out there today!!
supposed to get up to 50 today - sunny and the birds are out.
41°, windchill 27°, wind N 18mph, partly cloudy
Wow. Harbor patrol?
I just wondering if he kept driving into it, or was it parked there.
Ya know those cops think they are invincible.
Probably was eating and didn't notice.
Topsfield MA., west of us had 9" of rain & route 1 near the fairgrounds is flooded out. We must have had over 6" & basement water is up to 14". DH suspect it will be at least another day before we can have people come & restart things. Cold is tough, but no hot water is tougher. Power is here we just can't use the part for warmth.
all the roads here near the nashua river are closed - just took a drive around to check things out and it is wet - also went out back and puled up all the pots with jm's and bushes that i had been over wintering - holes were filled with water - out to clean up the small portions of the yard that had snow when i raked last week and then on to edging.
lucy hope you can get it going later tonight
Yes I have a Dr.s appointment this afternoon & we have to go a different way because of road closure. Yesterday in
Essex, a winding river was winding no more. You could see strainght out towards Gloucester.
Sun is shining and the rain has at last stopped. A small pond across my drive is also shrinking already. It can only improve in the next few days. I have been luckier than irisMa has been since my house is higher than the pond and the sump worked well to keep things dry so I am very thankful for that. Hope you get things back to normal quickly out there and get that luxury of hot water and heat back soon too. So many things we take for granted until they are not available, then you really appreciate the everyday use of them. Temp is 42 with light variable north wind and should get into the low 50s. Rest of the week looks really nice. Hope to going on edging later today.
