I tried to send a post and photo to the Weather forum. It was slow loading and all three times took me to the all Forums page. No post went to the Weather forum yet.
We're back up ! (?) - system issues here, please
My bad. I forgot to resize my photo! Turning red here :o)
Terry.......concerning birthday list...
It wasn't replaced until 7:15 when I posted last Thursday. If we could have it change at midnight it would really help. Sometimes I am up late and can post it then. Thanks, Sheila

I'm going to ask them to move it to coincide with the change of the daily articles, which I'm guessing happens at midnight PST (well, PDT) now - sometime after my head has hit the pillow here ;o)
Thank you Terry!
That would be great!!!
The last hour+ has been painfully slow, pics are taking for-EVER loading. Hitting refresh doesn't help. I can go to other sites, update a bunch of forums there and will still waiting for something to load on DG, and that's with high-speed DSL. I'm very disgusted. Loading pics on Plant Files has been impossible.
I haven't complained about issues with the new ownership, as I realize changes take time. But considering I am paying for access to this site, it would be nice to access it when I want. If I ran my business this way, I'd be out of business due to constantly issuing refunds for non-delivery of service.
Slower than it has been and no newsletter.
Chocolate....Dave is still behind the scenes helping the move to a new server for now. I think they were doing maintenance at the early time you posted. I am not seeing the slow screen changes myself.

No, I haven't had any part in DG for quite some time now. I helped with the March 4th migration and the last assistance I offered was on March 8th to answer a technical question regarding the newsletter. With that work finished, I am now no longer employed by NameMedia and I am completely out of the DG operations.
New thing I noticed this morning - probably related to Daylight Savings Time... My posts are no longer showing in my local time. They are an hour ahead. Arizona does not observe Daylight Savings Time. The current local time for me is 9:56 am...
It probably is a DST thing - you can adjust your own time on your profile (Click on "My Info" then "Manage my preferences" - let us know if you need any further help.)
Thanks Terry - worked like a charm! I'll have to remember to keep switching myself between Pacific and Mountain time;o)
I am wondering if the weekly Newsletter is discontinued, usually I have it early Monday morning.
And last weeks Newsletter was a pain in the behind, because it was the wrong format (too wide to fit screen) and involved a lot scrolling back and forth to read an article.
No, we are still sending the newsletter.

I didn't get one today either.
Just wanted to let you know that today is the first time in several days that I could even get on the site, site wont' load , too slow so it times out before it loads.

I'm so sorry - when was the last time you were able to get on and move about the site before today?
Regarding my post about the poor service on this site lately...
The clarification in post #7630327 was appreciated. It almost goes without saying that this is the case.
The lack of acknowledgment by current management is not appreciated.
stplong - Are you on dial-up? Most of us here have experienced pretty
complete correction of the slowness after the first days of the data
transition. Also, have you cleared out your cache? That can get
over-full and slow down some sites.

I apologize - when I skimmed the newest threads this morning, I must have skipped past yours - completely unintentional.
We have had a few reports of slow loading of images. Can you look to see how large (in pixels) your images are? We recommend 640x480 or 800x600 - the system automatically reduces anything larger than 1000x800.
We (well, mostly Melody ;o) have tested several large photos in the test forum and we haven't been able to replicate the problem. Is it only in PlantFiles that you are encountering this, or is it in the forums as well?
On the archived copy of the newsletter, there are no Blooms of the Day. There were no Blooms of the Day on last week's newsletter either.
It was slow for me last night too. I tried four times to get on the site before I gave up. In the daytime, it seems okay. I have DSL and none of my other sites are slow. I didn't have any problems Googling to find what I was looking for.
I think we've reported the BOTD issue as of last week to the tech team - I'll see where we're at with that. I'll also have them look at the slowdowns. (I know there were reports on Saturday morning, and I encountered it here, too.)
I was unclear about the issue with pictures in Plant File. I was shopping for brugmansias and was hoping to look them up in PF. The script came up, but I gave up waiting for many pics to open. I just went elsewhere to view pictures of the ones I was trying to find.
I am aware maintenance is often done during the "off" or slower hours on many websites. But previously I never experienced problems or slowdowns with DG during the late night/early morning hours in the years I've been a member.

So you were trying to open photos, not load (upload) new ones?
Mondays are the day we historically generate a lot of weekly reports and send out the newsletter, all in the early morning hours. Those activities do take a lot of resources, but you should have been able to open and expand images.
Have you tried opening those images again now? If it's still slow, can you give me links to a few of the entries you specifically tried to open the images without success?
I'm still not getting an email when someone orders from the Marketplace. I sent a note to the helpdesk, but got no reply.
What to do now?
Jonna
Jonna I thought I replied to that. I'm sorry if I overlooked it. The tech team has been notified that this is an issue that needs to be addressed. Hopefully, it will be repaired shortly.
G'Day
I note mention above of clearing the cache. How do I do that as that could be part of my trouble because I have never done it in close to 18mnths.
Brian
Brian - In Windows you go into the Recycle Bin. That's the trash barrel where all the
stuff you delete ends up. I no longer use Internet Explorer and perhaps someone
may have other suggestions.
I frequently empty my "Recycle bin" but I don't put any DG stuff in there. What is the DG cache please?

Here it is Midnight Monday and I still haven't received my weekly newsletter? What's up with that, aren't they doing it anymore, seems like it got push under the bus.
Oopsie...
Just now got this when I clicked on "Skip to New" here:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1079677/#new
Just tried refreshing the page, and it went back to normal.
Just had a period where photo enlargements would only show about half then stick at that. Sometimes I could get out of the thread and come back in and the photo would show full size, but not always. Not only in the Australian Forum had the same in C & S also Plant &Tree. Tuesday PM here and no News Letter.

Yes, I was trying to open photos. All is currently working fine, as it had in the past. (Mondays and late night included). Guess I'll have to expect the new curfew if I try to access after midnight.
Some folks didn't get the newsletter this week and the tech team is working on this. Here is the archived version: http://davesgarden.com/weekly.php?news=2010-03-15
How come my user name isn't green anymore? I liked the green, it made my posts stand out when scrolling and especially when looking for an older one!
Click on your name and it will turn green again. Any name that you click on will turn green.
Thank you Calif_Sue.
Just viewed the archived version of the newsletter, why are all the blooms of the day listed as " permission denied." All these little problems are starting to add up again. Still running slow during certain times of the day and night, Threads not clearing after reading them, " skip to new " not working right in some threads. Photo's taking forever to load. And yes I have cleaned out my "Cache", which seems to be the number one suggested remedy for everything.
