OK everyone it's time for me to have some fun with all this snow we have. Since I'm going to be looking at it until July, I thought we'd do a little lottery game.
Rules are simple: Everyone gets to enter 1 guess as to the date the very last clump of compacted snow crud melts here at my house in Virginia. Closest date wins.
The winner will get a gift certificate to Almost Eden Plants, and maybe a few homemade goodies as well.
Now what you need to know to make an informed guess is this:
1. We had between 45 and 50 inches of snow here in the last week or so.
2. We live in a heavily wooded area where we don't get a lot of sun.
I will update the progress via pictures as we melt.
I'll keep a running list in the next post down.

Welcome to part 2 folks!!
In answer to your question Fruity, no we haven't got the snow buggy back yet. Need to call today to light a fire under them since there may be more on the way Wed. We were able to get our trucks up here on Friday, so at least I can go out today without making it a major expedition.

If we missed out first guess, can we guess again??? LOL!
Good luck to those still waiting, I do hope it melts soon for you.
Following the flakes...lol
knew I should have went for July LOL. Thanks for the fun thread rvnsbrk, Missed my date.
I was just thinking this morning that all these mountains of dirty snow in the parking lots will probably be here until July! There are some big ones here, I can't even imagine the size of the ones in VA.
Snow, snow go away..I've got 11 more days...
They're dwindling in our parking lots, just so ugly looking. Our snow's gone except on the North side of our home and little patches down in the woods.
Man it is melting like crazy out there, but it doesn't seem to be making any headway. Got stuck in the mud and slush in the driveway this morning. Then the mailman came up to the house for carrier pick up and got stuck. That one was not my fault. the packages were at the bottom of the driveway where I always leave them. Regular lady was off today and the fill in didn't bother to read the pick up instructions on the papers she was waving in my face. :) It has been Monday all day here. :)
Ewwww...I hope tomorrow evolves into Tuesday like it oughta..LOL Yeah, I've been slipping and sliding in the mud in our driveway, too, wondering when I'll get stuck.
Our driveway is gravel with a slight dip at the end where it meets the pavement. Between the snowplows raking up little piles where they don't belong and us sliding in and out of the muck, we're definitely going to need a tandem load in a few weeks. At least it'll choke out the Henbit.
What is a tandem load? and what is a Henbit?
A tandem load fits in the back of a dump truck, LK. Henbit is a weed in the Mint family. It has a pretty purple bloom in the Spring and again in the Fall but is invasive as heck. It's about as bad as lawn Dandelions.
How much is a load of gravel these days? We need about a dump truck full!
Last time we ordered a load of crush-and-run 3 years ago cost $220. We use a local quarry that's 8 miles away. I'm sure the ante has gone up like everything else.
Probably. If it ever dries out here, I'll call our local place. Thanks!
I think we are going to need more than gravel. The major workover on our driveway costs in the thousands. I hate spending money that way, but I'm getting too old to shovel rocks. :))
Oh, I know, I have spent hours shoveling buckets full from a small pile we had, putting them in the car and filling potholes. The potholes have gotten way too big for my little bucket to do any good, lol.
I am going to guess at march 16th
I know what y'all mean about the gravel. I live on a county road & have to buy the gravel for it every year. The county road comes off of a black top road. The county road is a little over 2 miles then from the end of the county road to my drive way is right at a mile. I like it though, there's only 2 people besides us out this road & it dead ends at my house so we don't get traffic or anything but it would be nice if the county would take care of there part of the road.
Hi Dixie,
I closed the voting on February 28th. Sorry about that.
At least it looks like we aren't going to get any more from this storm coming today.
We're thinking about cementing our driveway ourselves but that's a lot of work!
I've always said that if I hit the lottery, I will get a cement driveway that can be heated in the winter....wonder how much a quarter mile of that would cost, LOL.
LOL!!! Pave the sucker! I've heard you can't win if you don't play.
We thought about paving our driveway. 22 years ago when we moved in they wanted 25,000.00 to do that. Then I got to thinking about the luge track it would be in the winter......Now they would probably want more than the house is worth to pave. :))
That's why we need to hit the lottery, so we can pay to heat it, lol.
Two fresh inches today and it's still coming down.
We priced asphalt 15 years ago for a 210' driveway ~ $5000. Last year we priced concrete ~ $5000. Needless to say we'll continue to use gravels.
I meant to put this on another thread where the girls know me. Thanks.

Who, your cat? Please explain, as there is at least one DGer that goes by the name Kitty!
If your cat died, I'm so sorry.
Please let us know so we can help you.
I took Kitty to the vet to be cremated. She had been missing 2 weeks.
It's always difficult losing a precious pet. I'm so sorry, Carol.
Susan
Oh, how awful to find her like that. Sending hugs and prayers of comfort.
So sorry about your cat. Sometimes cats go away to die because they do not want to hurt their owner. May you remember all the fun times you had together. Sharon from Las Vegas.
Thank you so much for your sweet words. It means a lot to me.
How pretty, Pegi. I have nothing blooming.....yet. The bulbs peeking out are keeping me going.
OMG Carol,
So sorry to hear you lost kitty.
I know all to well what that is like, as you know.
I was reading about the paving of driveways and thought to myself, "Not everyone was as lucky as my mom was!"
She had a son, son-in-law, and grandson who all worked for the same paving company.
When they had a paving job in her area, they just had the crew swing by and pave her driveway, and my brother payed for the material used to do it. At a discount I'm sure!
Kassy, did you loose that big mostly white pretty kitty that was having a problem? I don't remember you ever saying.
