Stormyla, I'll just have to copy the recipe for myself! The first yellow crocus anyone has posted. They are sunshine bright!!
Chris, I'm Irish too, so I'll have to make that bread!
News not so good.
Every good Irish woman should have a good Soda Bread recipe. LOL Hope you enjoy it.
Morning! I got the recipe. Now to find time to make it. I haven't even got my potting soil in the pots and wet yet. I'm doing that today! It turned chilly, but the rain is done for the week. I look forward to just walking in the yard.
Hope you have a good day. ((((HUG)))
Good morning! Yes, it should be a fun week out in the yard here, too, at least after the "flood" recedes. (Not an actual flood, but there's a bit of standing water out there.. maybe the LA irises are enjoying it?)
I hope this spring weather will bring a renewal of hope & healing!
*gentle hugs* and prayers as always
(Here's the first bloom in Joyanna's crocus lawn!)
Oh WOW Critter I was thinking about that the other day. Does it look like much is coming up?
wow jill, they oughta really pop latre this week with the sun!
Can't wait to see pictures of the crocus lawn with Joyanna as the center piece.
:-)
I peeked out the front, and there are a zillion buds poking out of the soggy lawn... they'll open in the sun this week... I'm guessing the C. chyrsanthus are the first to bloom, and they'll be followed by C. siebieri.
I need to find her an Easter Bunny outfit.
LadyG, I'll do my best to capture one of her smiles just for you!
Critter, took me a while to figure out Joyanna wasn't a flower I hadn't heard of. I look forward to the picture too! :o)
Stormyla, you sure could graze in that bed,YUM!
Good Morning Chris! Hope nice weather is on it's way to you! We have a good week ahead, and then it gets cold again. :o(
I remember my first trip to the Phila Show they have a whole veggie garden done in the Peter Rabbit theme. It was great. Chris eat your Veggies. {{{hugs}}}
Lettuces are so pretty! I think I'm going to use some in window boxes or as edging for beds this year (the bunnies will love that, LOL).
LadyG, I hope that spring sunshine has found you today!
Hope you're feeling ok Chris and that the sun is shining for you!
Billyporter, That is funny and a great photo! We sent Chris so many lettuce seeds from our swap, just trying to give her some more ideas on using them. Or even a nice display to look at.
Holly, those dagburn bunnies will still eat your favorite plants, right after they eat the lettuce!!
Stormyla, lettuce is a pretty plant. Like spinach, it takes so much room for a nice bowlful, but worth it. I thought it was a good picture myself :o)
Good Morning Chris! Happy Saint Patricks Day! If I don't get the bread made, I at least have baked it in my mind :o) Hope you're having a good day! (((Hug)))
Ladybugs!
Hi all, Love the pictures, we celebrated a birthday and St. Patty's day at work yesterday. Everyone brings something for a dinner after work and we all eat and talk, lots of laughs.
I'm home today and have my garden peas soaking, so I can plant them. I have some spinach and radishes and of course the lettuce that you all sent. I'll plant some of each to get a start.
The robin picture is funny, hope he missed you. LOL
I hope to get a lot more done it the garden before the next treatment, as I know I might be down for a few days after. I look at it this way, if I felt good all the time I;d be worried that nothing was happening. The side effects are it's way of telling me, Sit down rest and let the chemo do it's job. I'll ask Dr. for something to help get me throught better next time.
Chris, I thought about peas too, but I think my ground is still too soggy. It doesn't crumble yet. I usually get them out as soon as possible. Why do I never learn to trench and save the dirt :o)
Laughing, I'll never know if he dropped a bomb. I got in the house right away!
You're right! Feeling bad is good. I just hope it doesn't wear you out too much over time. Have a good day!! I need some breakfast!
Cool ladybugs. I saw a ladybug cluster emerging in the woods once, swamp actually, neat to see so many at once.
I hope this sunshine extends to Near Lake Erie PA--it is pretty!
Thanks, our ladies were declining for a while. I rarely saw clusters. Now I have a few under the leaves in a couple of places and I'm excited! Last year I disturbed them cleaning the hosta leaves off and by the time I got my camera they had scattered. Not the impressive cluster they were a minute before, LOL!
Stormy, That was Critter that is planting lettuce in her beds. Although I do agree it sure looks pretty growing like a border but she might be ringing the dinner bell. LOL
Chris, I spent some time out cutting the damaged branches from my Juniper. As I was cutting the broken and dying branches at first all I could see was the damage and my heart sank. Then I started looking and thinking well this area is good, that area doesn't look too bad, this will grow back and it will be stronger when it does. I piled the damaged branches into my garden cart and hauled them away. Looking back at my somewhat sad looking hedge I thought that doesn't look too bad. It will grow new and strong again.
The sun is out today and it will be a great day to be out, high 50ºs.
Talking about clusters, my bees are still in the tree in the back yard. I have a card from someone that will come and collect them if they start to swarm. They are not a problem for me so I'm not sure I'll call him or not. I'll just keep an eye on them.
My office where I work has been having a problem with the Asian Lady Beatles, they like the back side of the building where the sun shines the most, luckly it is in the staff area and not the patient area. I don't know when the last time a saw a real true Ladybug.
I've put lettuce as a border in the front yard before, and it didn't get bothered by the bunnies, not sure why... maybe I have otehr plants they like better? LOL
LadyG, I'm glad you're doing better and that you have a fine day to enjoy! Hoping the next session will be easier on your body.
Chris, the asian beetles they brought into eat the aphids or whatever on the soybeans are finally not showing up much. I got so mad to find I was being bit by one. I hope they are all gone this year. Now if the gnats, mosquitos, and no see ums would go away.....
I'm still waiting for the sun here! Have a happy day!
I still have regular and Asian ladybugs that came in last fall, especially in the bedroom where the afternoon sun warms it up. I'd read the Asians don't even actually eat aphids. Surely I've transported 100 or more of them outside or to the trash over the past several months. ((Hugs to you Lady)))
Can you step outside these past few days without saying Ahhhh Spring?
Pam, I can attest that the Asian Ladybugs eat tons of Aphids. Most of the Ladybugs that are sold for biological pest control from distributors of organic gardening products are the Asians. I bought quite a lot last year. No matter where I distributed them in the garden, I would always find hundreds of them clustered on the rosebuds. Never once last year did I spray the roses. The bugs go where the food is. Then they would leave the roses until some more aphids came back.
If I don't see any ladybugs this year, I may have to spray the roses. Buying Ladybugs became quite expensive. Please send some my way. LOL
Chris, I hope you are having a wonderful day in your garden!
Pamgarden, I notice that like me, you take them outside :o) I can't even kill them. Love Spring!!!
Stormyla, I'll have to see what mine are eating if I have any this year.
Hugs for you Chris. Hope you're having an Ahhh Spring Day too!
Chris, I haven't met you but have seen a lot of your posts in the past. I haven't been on DG for months. I am saddened to hear of your continued difficulties. I will keep you in my prayers. Words are inadequate. I sincerely hope you can get outside and "play in the dirt" and let the garden soothe you. This weekend is supposed to be really beautiful.
Shirley
Chris, we get the Grandkids for two days, so I won't be posting, but I'll be praying. (((Hugs))) in advance, and I hope your days go well.
Chris, just wanted you to know I'm thinking about you. It is supposed to be gorgeous tomorrow so I hope you can do some playing in the dirt.
Stormy, just some to my house and you can have all the ladybugs you want! They're particularly attracted to white houses and are able to get inside the walls, so one sign of spring is the ladybugs waking up and showing up in the house.
The spring peepers have been singing the past few evenings. It's still cold at night here so I hope the little rascals are okay.
Hi all! Well I had my head shaved this morning, my hair started falling out Monday and it was getting all over the place, drove me nuts, I think I may have breathed a few in while I slept and could not get that hairy feeling out of my throat.
I went to the grocery store after the shave I wore a scarf but the air was a bit cold and I sure noticed it. For some reason lemonade has been tasting pretty good to me so I bought a few cans of frozen on sale to get me through for a while. Could not resist the asparagus and got some catfish for dinner. Hubby is at a stag fish fry tonight so I can cook whatever I like for dinner.
I plan on heading outside to tackel a few more flower beds. It is way to nice to be inside.
Love you all!
*hugs* LadyG! I know it's supposed to be not such a big deal when you're up against the cancer monster, but our hair is a big part of what we expect to see when we look in the mirror! I know I didn't take it well when I lost about half of mine to a medication reaction a few years back (although if the meds had worked better I might have been willing to swap no hair for no migraines since they were hitting me about daily at the time)... it just seemed like adding insult to injury! I suspect you're dealing with your usual strength and grace, but extra hugs and prayers are coming your way today anyway. :-)
Enjoy the sunshine!
I'm glad you have nice sun to shine on your newly nude noggin. As always, I admire your attitude!
We've gotten some nice asparagus already too, and my dh is golfing so me too, dinner doesn't have to accomodate him, kind of like a no homework pass when we were in school.
{{{Hugs}}} Take that shiny head outside and get some sun on it. Just not too much. Wouldn't want you to sunburn it.
Chris, you can do this, you can! Hugs and prayers are coming your way. We're here for you. Don't be afraid to hollar!
Hi all, Plan on doing some more seed sowing today and raking out another flower bed. I have been wearing a cap outside, you would be surprised how cold your head gets without hair, and I have to watch how much sun exposure I get. It really feels good to rub my head, sort of soothing after a long day.
Thinking of ordering another scarf or 2 online, after all I'm saving a lot of $$ not going to the hair dressers every 4 weeks. LOL
Chris--
There is a specialty shop that caters to cancer patients here--and it is ONLY 5 minutes from my house.
It is called "Charlottes" You could try to see if they have a website.
I once walked in there---they have aisles ans aisles of wigs and all kinds of caps and even prosthetic breasts for breast cancer people.
I am not 100% sure--but I have heard that they take back the wigs when you are done and there may not even be a charge.....Like i said---I am not sure about that......I could stop in and ask????
Gita
LadyG, I think you deserve your Dave name. It reflects your elegance. I can't help but re-read your post when it opens, and I marvel that you are doing so well so far. My neighbor had to shave her head too and she remarked that she got pretty frosty sometimes :o)
Scarves are the new hairstyle now, so change it and the color as often as you like!
I've been hearing a lot about vitamin D as a cancer fighter, so sun on the skin is a good thing!! I'm so glad the weather has been nice enough for you to get outside and play. We lose ourselves when we are doing things we enjoy and I sure enjoy raking off the old to uncover the new!
Hope you have a warm sunny week. We are going to be in the mid 50's with a north wind. Spring is still a bit chilly, but at least our layer of snow melted!
(((Hugs))) and a prayer! Have a great day!
I didn't have time to plant these one year and just threw them on the ground. The compost must have covered them. I couldn't believe they bloomed!
