Today's Weather in Your Garden - 64

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

DonnieBrook, Dang we were invited to go to that game. We had a dear friend die suddenly last Sunday while in Sanibel, so we were heading down, then every thing changed on Monday night. Now instead, we are gathering in Ct on Sat with some of the the family. In the meantime we had been offered some great seats. His death is a big loss to the birding world, both there and Nantucket. He had just done a lecture on Feb 11 at Ding Darling to a packed house. We may still get down, to cheer up his daughter who lives in Sanibel, in a couple of weeks. She will be at the game. Cheer hard for me.

Weather is still crappy out. Wind and slop. Hope it is clear by Friday morning. Patti

Thomaston, CT

Sorry for your loss, Patti...hope things work out for you. Cloudy & 30s here today.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Sorry to hear about your sad news Patti. No doubt a loss to the whole community as you say.

Go Sox!

We only got a coating of snow over night. Yeah! And the weekend weather is looking good in the 50s and sunny. Sounds just wonderful. Temp is 33 degrees now and the wind is light with some gusts gaining strength from the N, but should increase and turn to be from the westerly direction.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Thanks. Nice obit for him in the NYT today.

Was snowing, but now, not, oops, starting again. but again to warm to stick. Windy still, All boats cancelled so far today. It has brightened up a bit in the last few minutes. But not an outside day. Patti

Thomaston, CT

Sorry for your loss as well, Victor----even though they were elderly, they will be missed.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sorry to hear, Patti. Been through lots of that lately.

South Hamilton, MA

I'm sorry, Patti. It's tough to lose friends especially when it is sudden.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Very kind of you all. He was 86 and led a jam packed life. My husband is writing obits for the local papers, which will run next week, that are more personal in nature than in the national papers . We all wanted time to digest his life. The gathering on Sat will be full of great Ted Cross stories. I hope it is joyous occasion. He would want that. He was a bow tie and braces guy, so DH will wear those in his honor. I will miss him strolling through our garden this summer all the while asking a million questions. Always good questions.

Weather is still spitting snow/rain and still pretty windy here on Nantucket. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sounds like a full, happy life - no regrets!

I lost my godfather/uncle about 1 1/2 weeks ago. He was 89. Also a great guy.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Victor, that is a tough loss for you and your boys. I hope you celebrated his life, not just his death.

I had no connection to death as a child. My grandmother died when I was 5, but I had seen here only briefly for a few days in the summer the year before, so my memories are not really mine. Plus we didn't go to the funeral as my mother was giving birth to my brother in Okla when she died in Michigan. I took my first plane trip to see my grandfather a few months later. I remember that far better than my Grandmother. I understood nothing. Then no one died that I knew well until I was 21. Parents friends died, but we never went to funerals. No real talk about it. Weird. It took me along time to understand my feelings. I wish I had been emotional prepared to deal with it from a younger age.

Still crappy out. Kind of like life sometimes. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Only my older guy remembers him. Similar here - no close deaths until my grandmother dies when I was 16.

Expect the same pattern as the last few days, coating of snow in the morning and by afternoon it is melted. Today should be the last day of this . Sunny by this afternoon. Weekend is looking glorious and in the 50s. Yippee! I am looking forward to doing a bit of clean up out back at least. Light N wind, starting out with clouds and flurries, present temp only 29 degrees.

34° and a disgusting light coating of snow. On the plus side--I looked out the bedroom window & saw a hairy wp working on the suet feeder. That was a nice beginning to the day.

Looks like your snow will be gone soon too. Love those raised beds with rock wall, very nice even in winter.
Our snow dusting from last night and this am has all but disappeared again. Wind blowing at moderate speeds from and shifted to the ESE direction. Temp up to 35 degrees now, still waiting on the sun.
