Ramona down here on Long Island.
Countdown to spring! Part 10
takes my breath away.
I love the two views of Ramona. Victor, I don't remember what that iris is. I put it in a long time ago and back then I thought I would always remember things.
Are they 2 different plants? One looks more pink than the one in front. Which cultivar is the red one?. I bought 'Fanel' last yr but it has to grow up.
i noticed the color difference too - it must be the lighting - it is red not sure which one it is sorry
The white one reminds me of Bridal Veil.
nice Bill... anyone have that color magic astible .. or whatever it's called.. the foliage gets different colors
Is it Fanal orSeranade?
I like the deep color---and the iris made me drool---& the clems---and the fragrant DL---have narrowed my Sib list to 6----
Nice pink Allison
I'm Pixie........more coffee Ge?
Hee hee he

Somehow I feel I have lost the day already.
Sorry Pixi.
I was just teasing you Ge! I also wanted to tell ya that the photo you posted gives me a great idea of how tall those Pokers get....orange and yellow ones. Very tall and stunning, they command your attention immediately.
Bebop, im not sure how long SFF blooms i've only had it one growing season so it's hard to say.
That scene doesnt last longenough for me.
we have a busy running around day picking up some supplies for my dad's 75th birthday party next sat... so I am enjoying my few mins with my coffee & your photos.. thanks
He is 1 year older than I am.
you wouldn't know he was his age either.. he walks the dogs miles & miles everyday.. my one friends mom was busting his chops that the dogs pass away young from the high mileage on them... works out in the yard all summer too.. and after his bypass a few years ago it was like a new lease... we were yelling at him for doing too much too soon
thank you Celeste ... starting to get nervous already... still don't have a total head count but it's 20 something... so much to do... going to be a fun week.. and JoAnn you are the same age as my mom BTW
Can't keep a good man down! LOL
I am glad my sister from Ohio will be here for the party.. he thinks he is coming here for Randy's birthday party... he has no clue it's for him.. his birthday was Feb 1st .. Randy's is this week on the 25th... he doesn't like the fuss.. but will be happy to see his sisters
Aw, how nice! Your a sneaky one!!
74
yes I am sneaky when I have to be... but it's fun
Have a great party for him, Allison!
Beautiful daylilies, Pixie, and I love the face on that pansy, Allison.
Jo Ann - that scene is lovely.
Bebop - that scene just about screams that it's spring.
thanks Pirl
bebop2, That is a lovely shot. Makes me think of those first damp, but warmish spring smells and the sound of peepers. Cool. Snow fluries going on up here in Vt. now but it was very mild yesterday turning our dirt road into a muddy mess.
Wha, Nice Astilbe, but it looks like two different ones to me. I use to like just the white ones, but with age I have begun to like them in any color and have been adding new ones each spring.
I planted 3 of a dark red one last year with dark red spring foliage called 'Radius' after our dear dogs dug up three big holes in a bed of lily of the valley. Had to plant something asap as it was a total mess and, of course , right in front of the front door. They must of had a critter as they dug nearly to China.
Pixie, Love that DL 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.
onewish1, nice of you to trick your Dad. Hope he loves all the attention for his extra Birthday this year. I have to figure out if I am going to fly back to Okla to surprise my mom for her 95th in March. I did that last year, so she might be expecting me. So maybe I should do what you are doing and go later.
Ge1836, Post another one for me as I don't have any pics on my Vt computer. I am thinking I would love to see another one of your great container pictures. Thanks, Patti

Here ya go. Ben Champeau is here in Rochester. He has a CAD system for garden planning that is just fantastic.
I am shareing combos with him.He and his father Dave are landscapers on Nantucket.

Pretty darn cool and inspirational. Champeau Landscape is a major players in the landscaping business on Nantucket and they have a reputation of really knowing what they are doing, unlike many who just plant lots and lots of random plant material and hope that the clients will just replace all the dead stuff they stick in that is totally inappropreiate for our harsh weather.
I am always amazed when I am at one of our better nurseries at the random and hurried selections some are recommending to the clients they have in tow. I once watched a guy loading up a truck with a whole group of 1000.00 plus Japanese Maples that I knew was going to a new house that was on a very windswept spot that was waterfront house. Not a chance that they would survive a winter. Duh? I was tempted to tell the lady, as she was someone I knew, but I kept my mouth shut. It is sad that some think that if they have a truck and a shovel, they are can call themselves a gardener or worse yet a landscaper.
Dh and I are on our own save for the yard mowing, which we pay someone to do. I would love to see some of the private gardens that Dave Champeau planted back in the early 80's when we started our garden. I am sure I would see many things that I wish we had planted.
Lucky you to have some good garden chatter or as we say in Nantucket, " a good gam" Patti
Ben Champeau married my Best GF 's daughter who works for Lee Realty. They just had twins in Nov. and are here to visit GF gramma.
He put me onto
http://www.oudolf.com/piet-oudolf Ben said this renouned landscape designer plants swaths of a single plant ie. 1000 astilbes. He and Ben have worked together I believe.
75 here next month. I'm afraid that I am not nearly as active as your dad.
