Today's Weather in Your Garden - 63

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I hate those stories. We always have a couple of them each winter - usually due to the wind. People just walking or driving along and then the tree falls. Too bad.

true meaning to when it's your time

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Canceled school for tomorrow too, weird, since the roads weren't that bad when we went out this afternoon, I thought they would have just had a delayed opening.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - how terrible, Jen.

Closed again?!!

To all of you in the north east that were pounded with snow,
Now do have to worry about flooding?
Have never been to your area. Here in Arizona, when we get the rain and snow next step is really bad flooding.
Hope this is the end of snow for all of you.

Hi, JoAnne:

Around Massachusetts in February, snow melt is readily absorbed by the ground, which is rich in humus from all the tree leaf decomposition that has accumulated over the ages.

Our spring rainstorms are when we get flooding; the ground becomes saturated too fast during sequential rain events.

The winter snow melts so slowly, there isn't usually a flood issue...until April, when rains melt any existing snow mass, *then* come the flooded basements!

Josh and I went to clean up Holly's parents this AM. It took about 4 hours with the blower. I shoveled a path onto the roof so Jamie could salt the ice damning over the north side, since ice was forming on the front walk. We tried to clean up as well as we could since more is coming Monday. Thanks to Aspen Tree Svc. A major crew has been working our area the last month or so, our power didn't even blink in the last 2 snow falls. Our roads were passable, we had some secondaries down to 1 lane due to drifting, they have to use front end loaders or backhoes to open the deep spots. Some Twp. roads remains closed. We've been fortunate not to lose power and the wind has saved us from shoveling our roofs. Hope everyone else has fared as well! I definitely will be reinforcing the barn roof this summer, I have at least 2 split beams and a small leak in the cap. Ric

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I agree with BostonArea_6A, Jcoats123.

The snow melts slowly even though it's sunny outside, it's 15° outside here now, so this snow isn't going anywhere anytime soon! lol!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

There is flooding in some areas that are prone to it when there is a lot of snow melt.

25 and clear. Possible storm Mon night.

I'm finally starting to dig out after Washington DC snowstorm round 2. I live just west and north of the city, and I think I have at least 4' between the two back to back storms. Drifts are even higher - I'd estimate about 6' or more. Irisma, that cartoon is too funny! Federal Govt has been closed for four days - never have had that happen before that I can remember. There are a lot of trees blown over in my woods, but none across the driveway. I got outside yesterday to check things out, and in the shelter of the hole made by the root ball of a huge blown over oak tree were about 7 big ugly turkey buzzards. I didn't see them right away, but they saw me and took off - talk about being startled!!! UGH. Heading outside in a few minutes to get the tractor warmed up so I can start plowing. Should be loads of fun... Terri

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Good luck with the digging out. Hopefully there will be a few nice days to get things cleared away a bit.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - good luck, Terri.

Great that they have not been allowed to spend any more imaginary money this week!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

lol Victor. Ya never know though, they might have Skype.

34 low was 23
50% chance of snow on Monday

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Temp way up to 36 and nice clear blue sky. Not bad for Feb.

Thomaston, CT

Same here---windy, but gotta love that sun! Turned my ankle yesterday---reading mail as I was walking down a step---yeah, I know, stupid, so I'm not walking on the dam today, but I did check our south side for daffs----nothing yet.

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Getting out wasn't that bad, and the sun has been shining so I didn't get too cold. Here are a couple of pics of what the Mid Atlantic forum is calling snowmageddon...

And Victor, how did you get your kid to shovel. I've tried everything, even treats, and this is the look I get. She's not having any part of it...

Long driveway to plow to get out to the main road.

The snow has been sliding off the roof off and on all day, makes me jump every time. The pitch is pretty steep, so I don't worry about the roof collapsing - that problem has also been making the local news here... Terri

Best to all the snowed in--pics look like upstate NY. 35 & sunny here & why won't the last snow get off the iris beds & poor snow drops?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I LOVE your house Terri, you need to take me on a photo tour of the inside.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

terri just do not feed them until they shovel.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Wow. What a beautiful home - and what a lot of plowing and shoveling to do . . .

Lucketts, VA(Zone 7a)

Thank goodness for the tractor... As for shoveling, I am SORE!!! Time for a nap.
