Sports Talk!! Part 2 - Picthers and Catchers Next Week!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hide the girls!!! Tiger is back tomorrow.

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

I want to raise my little girl to be a reporter. It's the only way I will know for sure that Tiger won't talk to her.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee! Don't be so sure.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I can't believe how many people don't even control their swearing around children, especially other people's children. I can curse with the best of them, but when people at a restaurant are swearing loudly and my 10 year old is in earshot, it bothers me.
I feel the language he is exposed to is our decision not the decision of strangers 2 tables over.
I also want my kid to be able to watch the olympics.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Another gold! Congrats, Evan!

Weir was robbed.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Agree, Dave!

South Hamilton, MA

well, his short program messed him up. but he did do well in the long--might get him going again.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I agree Weir is much more artistic and watchable in his skating. I like that they are trying to get more of that back into skating. Too much emphasis on the jumps in recent years. Another good night for the USA team.

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

Well, to stir things up a bit:

http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/figure_skating/news?slug=es-thoughts021810&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

I have to admit I love Plushenko. But then I've always thought the Russians (and skaters from other former Soviet countries) have an increbible combination of speed, technical skill and artistry that the rest of the world often has trouble matching.

I've missed too much of the Olympics this time around and it ticks me off! Do you think I could call in sick to work with the excuse of watching the Olympics? I wonder if my boss would mind...

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

could not watch the men's skating - too much "glitter" - happy the US won will check out the video later - the girls halfpipe should have gone before the mens, they just were not that exciting compared to the mens competition.

Thomaston, CT

I agree---I actually thought both Lysacek & Plushenko's programs were boring---and stiff---liked a few more than theirs. Our high school girls' BB team won the Berkshire championship last night--they are undefeated with 1 game to go---a great accomplishment, because we have one of the smallest HS in the state.

South Hamilton, MA

I just had a security alert as I was reading article on Olympics. People might keep their eye open for such. I think I will run my cleaner at the moment.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I don't agree with that. I thought he was better than the Russian, who stumbled three times after jumps. On one jump, his body was at a severe angle in the air and he was lucky to not fall. Maybe it's sour grapes for Elvis who never did win the gold. And Canadian skaters have always been overshadowed by Russians and Americans.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Weir was def robbed. The Russian, had a very boring program( I thought). He did the same position sit spin 3 times in the beginning, where all he did was grab his foot. I could even do that!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

His or yours?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

ha ha, mine. I loved ice skating when I was younger, wanted to train professionally but no rinks close to us growing up and my mom refused to drive far

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

So Tiger completed step one of the PR formula for reputation rehabilitation. Sorry, sorry, sorry... For getting caught??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Are those jeans that everyone seems to be wearing in the snowboard events??? Jeans are so constricting so I cannot imagine why that would do that - especially in the half-pipe where you are constantly twisting, etc. Maybe just lookalike jeans but really something more flexible like nylon?

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Weir needs to go away. I didn't like his program at all. I'm glad Evan won, his was the better program.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think they are normal snowboard pants made to look like jeans

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's what I was assuming.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

silver and bronze for US men in alpine today - bode is doing very well!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Absolute class from Evan. Just saw him interviewed by Costas (cannot take him!). He was nothing but gracious and would not take Costas' bait of continuing to read inflammatory quotes attributed to Plushenko. Evan kept congratulating Plushenko.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I just watched that too and thought the same.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That was just some scary skiing.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes! What a crazy course.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Dee, Those impressive Soviet block teams used some intensive chemical shortcuts. I still have nightmares about some of those East German women.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Cowabunga......Bode took silver, but the Norwegian took the gold. I was so happy for both of them, but the Norwegian....
!. survived devastating crash
2. returned to competitive skiing
3. a great supportive Dad
4. great command of English as a second language
5. REALLY, REALLY good looking ^_^

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Does anyone else find ice dancing incredibly boring? Reminds me of synchronized swimming. Looks pretty, but Olympics?? Nahhh.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Dave - I had no nightmares about Katarina Witt!! On the contrary...

I like ice dancing. But I don't think it is really a sport.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Not Katarina. But don't you remember the testosterne riddled women & steroid-filled guys? It was cold war days, pre-verified drug testing.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes I do. They were scary, Russians too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Best sport of all!

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/35439222/ns/today-today_in_vancouver

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

;) the sport of all ages

they're still dancing :(

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Just to clarify, I mean all ages as decades, eons etc, NOT the age of the people

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee. Interesting that you said they're still dancing since all the initial Viagra commercials showed people dancing!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I love the ice dancing, of course we're currenting watching Ratatouille

South Hamilton, MA

Why is ice dancing not a sport? It takes coordination & timing on a narrow piece , or 2 pieces of metal. Just because they don't jump like the pairs doesn't mean its not a sport. The original & free dances are usually more crowd pleasing than the compulsary ones.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Not sure who makes the rules. Dancing is not a sport but curling is?
