Medford has a special deal?
Sports Talk!! Part 2 - Picthers and Catchers Next Week!
keith tkachuk was the guy who was responsible for the damage - he is from medford
I didn't realize that they had figured out the culpret.
it was in the boston globe about 6 months after the games in the hockey notes - he has a history of getting out of control after a few too many
We only get the Sunday Globe so their sports stories don't always get through. I am glad that they figured it out so everyone didn't get blamed. I hope everyone on all teams this yr. act more civilized. Selection for the games is supposed to be an honor.
But NASCAR does have Danica Patrick!!! ^_^
Heard this AM that half of Canada watched their hockey team lose to us!! Hee hee.
If we happen to lose, I'd rather it be to Canada than the Russians. Let's keep as many medals in North America as possible. However it was a Candadian skater who grabbed Ono's leg, causing him to miss a chance at a gold medal, No medals for Canada there, I'm glad to say.
I agree on both counts, Lucy.
me too
Short track is insane---so is ski cross, but it was exciting to watch it.
Yep, yep yep, agree with all of the above. He was very kind to say he had made one little mistake that cost him the medal with that interview with Costas, even though the questions were designed to get him to say something else. Seems to be a lot of that sort of thing in the interviews. So far the athletes have shown way more class than the media. Come to think of it, nothing new there.
i thought last night he said he thought he had slipped at the time and afterwards saw that he was pushed - just smiled and said that is how my sport works. can you believe 2% body fat
Yes, I love these cross events. Suicidal, but exciting.
Pah, hubby calls her "Danica Park it".
I really HATE those Go Daddy commercials.
manny is at it again - says that he is not sure if he will play next year only that it will not be in LA - he needs professional help
Wants to return to Boston.
i would take him back IF - theo and tito won't
Sounds like the Marx brothers.
I would not as in spite of his batting he is a distraction to other players. He is also 37. Finds the Dodgers are tired of his antics?
that's why i said IF - dodgers have been quite on this, only happened today
I don't understand Manny. That's nothing new though. The guy defies understanding. What gets me here is that he was beloved in Boston for years until he started dogging it and then he burned his bridges. Then he goes to LA and they absolutely adored him, which is remarkable considering that LA is such an apathetic sports town most of the time. And now he burns this LA bridge before he even crosses it. Where can he go now and make $20 million a year? I don't even think the Yankees will want to spend that kind of money to have to deal with him in 2011.
He's definitely a head case. But a great hitter.
That is true. I still love to watch him hit.
We caught a ball he hit in BP at Citi Field last year that had to travel about 500 feet.
he will go to the mets :)
Couple is ice dancing to Bohemian Rhapsody right now!
Sox, There was a time when Manny didn't occassionally dog it in Boston? I agree about his being loved there. But I thought he was always lax & talking about being traded
Missed that couple because hubby was watching the news. I' ve noticed in ice dancing this year there is a lot more crossover to pairs skating, lots more tricks and stuff not a lot of dancing per se.
A bit more athletic stuff but still mostly dancing to me.
You're right, Dave. Manny probably always did dog it in Boston to some extent, but I think it got worse toward the end of his tenure in Boston. I think the fans started to finally get fed up when he started doing things like refusing to play against the Yankees or refusing to swing the bat in the 9th inning and possibly faking injury.
Thought the ice dancing was exciting---lots of energy in the American's silver medal winners, lots of grace with the Canadians. UCONN beat WV last night---there's no figuring that team---they're lazy, a lot like Manny!
"possibly faking injury"?? the last time he said it was his right knee - wait it was the left - no maybe the right - unbelievable - sox had both checked out just in case.
I was thinking the same thing at first about the ice dancing - that it seemed more "athletic" - but then I thought back to some of the previous pairs that skated when I used to watch skating all the time, like Bestemianova & Bukin (who sometimes bordered on the bizarre) and of course, Isabelle and Paul DuChesnay. The DuChesnays did one dance (I believe exhibition, not competition) where I actually feared for her safety because I thought her head would be bashed into the ice, the way her brother was swinging her around!
I do think the lifts seem to be more complex now (and more of them). But I guess you always have to top the last winner, and so it goes.
I thought the fourth place Americans were better than the Russians.
Isn't it funny that so many watch sports in the Olympics, but not at other times?!! Do they even show these events at other times?
I don't know about the skiing, snowboarding, etc. but yes, ice skating is (or used to be) shown on TV fairly often. I used to watch it all the time. It was fun because you really got to know the skaters and their strengths and weaknesses, their "personality" on the ice, etc. I got away from watching it a few years ago, but I'll have to see if it is televised as much as it used to be. It would be fun to start following it again.
I think a lot of these sports are popular year round in parts of Europe and Canada. Here we focus on pro or college team sports mostly I think. Skiers, speed skaters and curlers are big stars elsewhere.
Yes, ice skating has always been shown. That's always been popular. I meant all these 'odd' ones, including old ones like ski jumping, bobsled, etc.
Manny did the same stupid stuff in Cleveland. That's where he was before Boston.
that is what i heard from a friend there too
