Meant to add to my last post on the previous thread..Kyle and Melanie were walking Sophie when a german sheppard stronger than it's owner decided it wanted to fight..Kyle called to tell me Sophie has bites across her back and hind but otherwise ok..think it was because Melanie had the Ned, little puppy they just got..maybe someone wanted to be boss...that was the worse of yesterday

OMG Thunder, I'm tired just thinking of all the quilts/blocks you are working on..no question you are an avid quilt maker..do you hand quilt them or have them machine quilted? I imagine you keep a lot for yourself...didn't join the heart block swap but did join the block of the month with Janice...I get mine the very last month, looking forward to that as well..I've done 2 of every block so am hoping to get a top done for myself...I sent out to local quilt group at the Church my embroidered quilt top..was talking to some of the girls and was told that most likely in the next week or so it will be ready..nice way to get hand quilted..I'll be sending them more tops for sure...

Tubby glad the card arrived before Valentines Day!

LindaKay, wondered where you had gone...

Well, 2 appts. cancelled today because of the weather conditions, as Paul is on vacation Wayne was coming in from the Toronto office, couldn't reach him in time to say..stay in Toronto..actually he just walked in, his first comments "you people are crazy to live up here" lol

Ohoh, sure hope your not getting sick.

Hi Tubby, how you doing?

Liz, thanks for checking up on me...We had another Earthquake in the wee hrs of the morning...I slept through it, but I don't think we felt it way over here. Just heard about it on the news.

Well snow finally stopped! anyone up for a snowball fight??
Splat.

Dh, took MIL to get cast put on, waiting to hear how bad the break was, but I think it's a clean break, hopefully no surgery.

hope you all have a fun day, and becareful on the travels, please.

Judy, did you send the snow my way...snowing heavily, hope I can find where I live this aft. lol...

Greg is thrilled, although not feeling well he's bound to leave in the morning for north country then on into Quebec for 4 days of mountain trails on snowmachines..brother Mike going with him as well

Nope, not feeling much better, if not back to normal tomorrow I'll be staying home..no fun sitting here feeling like this..it's lunch time, will transfer my calls to Cindy and put my head back rather than go find lunch...

Steve just getting back to himself and now your MIL with broken bones, Judy have you ever thought of going into the nursing field..still young enough to get a degree in nursing..yikes, something I've never considered..see blood and that does me in..

Hope Liz is ok..heard many were being evicted from their homes in case of mudslides .. rare you get earthquake in your neck of the woods isn't it? snow and earthquakes don't seem to go together..how odd!

Tubby, meant to ask, have you been behaving?

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Betty, I used to do only hand quilting on them...have a bunch of tops sitting here waiting, and many many blocks waiting to be put together also.....

not too long ago darlin hubby bought me a lovely new machine, sewwwww I am trying to teach myself machine quilting...did a few little wall hanging type things..and I am now working on a quilt as you go..quilt one block at a time, then put the blocks together after the quilting is done.

never sent one out to be done. most quilts I have done have been gifts for family and friends, wedding presents, new babies, moving from crib to bed, etc etc... Just recently started to make some for us (hubby & I) of course all my boys have some, nieces nephews, sisters....

I always do two of every block I make whenever I am in any swaps, got quite the collection going....will put more together as I learn to quilt on the machine better...and will still continue to do some by hand...I love to sit and hand stitch on a quilt...nothing in the world as peaceful, relaxing.....

hope you feel better soon....

What method are you using that you can 'quilt in the ditch' then put together after all blocks quilted?

I have one of those plastic tubing type frames, lent it to someone and just can't remember who..putting up the old type frames means that you have it up until you finish quilting and when you are quilting a few hours here and there it seems forever...

Did see the EZ# Quilting Frame that holds quilts up to 96" and lengths up to 108" - the aluminum rails with spring loaded buttons to lock each section allowing you the freedom of no tacks or tape is very interesting...if I thought I'd quilt I'd get one..last time I had a quilt up in my studio at the lake, the rooms was all windows..I'd quilt here and there..omg parts were faded from the sun..taught me a lesson...

With my quilt coming soon and it needing to have bias strips sewn on, I was almost tempted to get a simplicity bias machine..still might .. think it would come in handy..

Judy this is for you....seeing I've a birthday coming in a few weeks and already have the items I wanted it might be the perfect time to ask for the bias machine and the simplicity rotary cutter which cuts strips 3/8 to 1 1/2"...worth a try don't you think...if Judy can celebrate for an entire month then not why all of us...lol

Don't you just LOVE the toys that come with the craft?

One of these days Tubby Shirley will be on the thread and we'll be asking her..hope she has the same answer...all kidding aside, I'm sure you are the perfect patient..

Just got home from shopping and I got my yarn for the afghan. I'll be having fun with this ... It's so relaxing to me to have some handwork to pick up in the evening. Now I'm asking - did you do all of one color or break it up by doing all for one row? That's what I'm thinking and trying to think of a way to join them as I make them. Hurts my head to think so hard!! Heehee.
Betty I thought those EZ quilting frames were for long-arm quilting? I never thought about setting one up for hand quilting - must investigate!!
Almost time to go pick up Sean from school. I didn't mean to make you cry with his story but I really was just so proud of him...

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

The prettiest one I ever made I set together with black, Isingle crochted around each block in black, and joined them all with black. It's very dramatical!

This is the afghan Betty made which I am trying to copy too

The good picture of this was posted on Dec 19th on the thread dated 12/30/09

Barb, anxious to see the colors you've picked..

In answer to your question, the first one I made I did all the squares...boring/boring

the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lol I did each block, sewed them together as per the diagram, then as I made each additional row I added it to the previous one...I was far more enthused

What I did do though that helped, I got a cardboard, marked down 1 to 7 and taped the color that corresponded with each..far less confusing...

My office labtec camera isn't the best but you'll get the idea

Audrey, with the leftovers of the last 4 quilts I'm making one much as you've said you did and loved so much..think it will be pretty..another gift using up what's left...

Have about 80 done and need 220 for same size as the other afghans I've made..it will be similar to this..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb the quilt frame I'm talking about is for hand quilting only..the way it roles up takes far less space, you could almost put it against the wall when not quilting

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks for all the info Betty. I bought all the colors on the picture that you sent to me. The only change I made was on the camoflage one. Mine is shaes of gray from almost white to almost black. I think it will work in well. Everything else is the same as the pictue.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Another 15 minutes and I've made it through the day...Barb, I do the 'matress stitch' to sew my blocks and rows together..use whatever color you've chosen for #1 to sew everything with..the outer 2 rows of border will be #1 so that way it tends to blend in better....

You may call the 'matress stitch' something else..if you are not sure what method you want to use and would like to try I can lead you through it?

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure it will be beautiful...as you are getting tired of sewing, I'm getting tired of crochet...using up left overs and then my crochet hook gets put away..lol...by next weekend I should have my 5th afghan done since mid December..enough is enough..great passtime here at work though because you can pick it up and set it down without losing where you are at in a pattern..am sure same is for you..easy while watching t.v.

Pacifica, CA

morning all,

hope your all good been busy will be back when i can...

Judy, wishing you a special birthday!!!!!!
hope it is a wonderful day for you, love you bunches big birthday hugs :)
oh p.s.s. I'm soooo jealous of that snow!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning Liz..nice to see you post..been worried about you and Dawn out in California..talking about mud slides, torrential rain..hope it's not in your neck of the woods...

Yep..Happy Birthday Judy...it's a special day for you BUT not any more exciting than the entire birthday month!!!

Drats, couldn't understand why my post didn't show on the thread and here I put it on the old thread...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all, brrrr -9 and with wind chill -14...should look for my thermal underware lol..

I am sooo tempted to stay home, just took a gravol that usually eases things but puts me to sleep..maybe Suzanne won't be in but she's as crazy as I am, both should be home in bed...my thoughts are always, 'go in-you can always leave' then once you are in its 'I'm here anyway, might as well put in the day'..silly!

Barb, was going to start making rows for my afghan but had left different colored blocks at work yesterday so put that project away...

Using up scraps though...

Gab later...

Betty I never get tired of sewing. I just love doing so many different kinds of work with fabric, thread and yarn. Currently I have four full/queen size quilts in process. Two are ready to go to the quilter and two are in process of piecing together. I'm making two Downey quilts for kids, I'm making my tabletoppers to sell next Nov , I have a piece of cross-stitch in progress and now the afghan. AND I still take crochet cotton on travel days to make dishcloths. So with all these things going on, I'm not getting bored!!!!!
And then there are the occasional crafts you have a way of getting me into!!! I think Norm would have my head if I ever said I was bored!!! I really do love being retired.

Lyndonville, NY

Just catching up. I haven't been home in a few days, at Jeannas house.

Carrie had foot surgery last week, so was busy with her til Monday....then moved over to Jeannas. She had surgery Tuesday morning. Still in hospital, probably til Friday. Long road of recovery ahead....but looking forward to feeling better.

Bev, keeping you and Scotty in my thoughts and prayers...hugs

Judy, so sorry to hear about your MIL. OUCH. Prayers your way too...

Tubby...keep on getting better! Your senses of humor and smile do wonders for all of us!

Crissy, Betty.....Liz....Mary....everyone....waving hello! Miss you all

Debbie

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Debbie! I was thinking of you last night.

It snowed and snowed at my house, lost my satellite internet sometime early early Monday morning and didn't get it back until Tuesday afternoon, the dish was covered with snow and since it's on the roof I'm not climbing up there to dust it off.

Got to work yesterday for a short day and I am so backed up with work I'll never get out of it! These snow days are killing us. We're supposed to get another inch or so tonight and tomorrow so that will shut us down again. Yey yey yey.

I don't have time to catch up, but I do want to share these with you.

Prayers for Jeanna and hugs to you Debbie..how overwhelming it all must be for you, worrying about your babes? Was at CrackerBarrel on Sunday having breakfast and mom said, you should have called that nice girl to come have breakfast with us... thought you were absolutely adorable..guess you made points saying you were interested in porcelain dolls

I'm so hoping that once you are back settled in that you can come for a visit..I'd gladly come US side and pick you up..you need some old fashion 'mother cuddling' yourself...

How is DH and your son coping without you? are you still feeding the kitty?

Don't think I mentioned my yesterday episode involving my kitties...some of you may recall I made 25 thread catchers for the sale this weekend, community efforts to raise funs..did them weeks ago but hadn't put filled about 8 of the weight bags..also on my table was the Feb. and March quilt block cut material and few other projects...so last night when I got home I thought if nothing else I'd fill the 8 bags and sew the rubber backing...

Went into the craft room and omg what an odor...pet urine...totally MY fault, had a bag of small grain liter, open on the table, was using a funnel to put inside the bags, had forgotten to close the liter bag..you guessed it, kitties thought I had provided them with new place to do their business...

I've put everything into the wash, some will be salvageable some not...that will teach me a lesson!

Barb not sure why we're not seeing photo's today..had included the one that I'm trimming in black..laughing here, think we're all the same, have to live to 100 just to finish half the projects we've got materials for...

I'm bombarded and have my 3 days off planned, no rest for the wicked and then I see Fabricland has a sale and also see that stained glass piece that another 4 or 5 hours would complete it and yet my mind goes on to something totally different...

What a mess we'd be in if we lived closer..Norm I think would forbid you hanging out with me...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, glad you are ok...YOU will get caught up, enjoy the extra time off..don't you be travelling those roads when they are bad...imagine with your vehicle it wouldn't be difficult plowing through the snow...it's the ice you have to worry about..

Must be something wrong with the satelite up in the sky...my rogers cable keeps saying, 'downloading satelite service' so maybe it's the storms

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Norm says "NEVER would he do that" You and he would get along just fine. He is so supportive of all I do plus being one that just loves people. He gets as much enjoyment from your posts as I do. ......

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

DG is working on moving pictures from one server to another and that's why we are getting occasional glitches in seeing them. Hope it doesn't take too long.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ah..that explains it...you tell Norm I'd spend 1/2 my time crafting with you and 1/2 my time doing woodworking with him..lol..
You just never know, with Bernie/Charlene getting rooms for $10. at that resort near you, might just have them get me a few nights...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, LindaKay did as I did this morning, posted on the old thread..I was a bad influence..anyway she said if you are lurking, "Happy Birthday"

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!!

Betty, you are so cute, yep Start celebrating your birthday too, everyday is grand so why not.

So I have started a a quilt block called the Honey Bee!! i am excited, because it's the first real q-block other than just squares!!
I really like it too...I'll take a pic for you in a bit

Love that you are able to come and chat! Spring just around the corner.

OH MY GOSH, Betty, that card is just adorable, Thanks yep brought a smile to my face!

Well, need more coffee...See you in a bit.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hope everyone is safe and warm.....
forties and rain.....that seems to be our theme for the at least the next week.

I have about four crochet projects in the works....dishcloths, because they are easy and fun and I want to send some home with my sis, an afghan to be assembled (any suggestions for the best method to join squares?), a scarf just for fun, and a pair of socks to see how it compares with knitting them (when you are a very beginning Knitter).
With Mom and sister wanting to go somewhere constantly I haven't made much progress on any of the projects. Sis goes home Saturday so maybe things will get back to normal.

Judy Happy Birthday!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha did post the first of a couple of photo's I took on web cam to show you how I do mine, not here, someone in cyber space now trying it out..lol..
ok will try again..
