Are Flower and I the only ones in the Snow Lottery? Go on over their and make a guess before all the good dates are taken!

What snow lottery?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

JJ, right now it is the fourth one down in General Discusion & Chat.

Kitty jumped up on the top of the piano and started eating my Dragon Tree. Then I thought if I put tons of plants up there she wouldn't be able to jump up there. WRONG! She started to eat my Triangle Palm, all but 2 branches she has eaten part of. Ok, I put the Dragon up on the china cabinet. It is not too light up there but what am I to do! I put other plants there also that doesn't need that much light. I moved chairs so they don't encourage her to jump up there. I put the Triangle Palm on Mamma's stand and put her on a low table. I hate to move her because she was doing so well and produced a baby that looks so good.

I put the baby with 6 tiny broms with a lamp on them. I know they aren't suppose to get direct light, does a lamp count? If I turn the lamp off, they won't have any light because they are in a corner.

Maybe Moon will pop in here. Do any of you girls have any suggestions?

I put some black and kidney beans into soak to form sprouts for Kitty. I thought I would give it a try.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I need spring! I need flowers growing!! Help!!!!!

Marti

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning everyone!

I hear ya Marti. I can't help ya, but I hear ya.

Venice, good idea. Maybe Kitty is looking for grass.

(Zone 5b)

good morning! coffee's on!

Marti you'll get spring before I will, that's for sure! lol

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Morning
Everything here is covered with ice this morning.

DH is taking out my sink today. Guess that means no more dishes for me.
Will someone please find the crockpot??

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

It's snowing again. I was surposed to go out with a friend this morning, but she refuses to go out in the snow. I'm not to sure I want to go out driving in the stuff either. So here I am lurking around again.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi! Marti, surprised you are having snow again. Maybe that is the front coming up from TX and the coast. You know Dallas had about 10" of snow!

JJ, Mmmm crockpot food!

Lynnie and Smiley, hope you are having a good morning!

I am trying positive reinforcement with Kity and her drinking my water. If she is about ready to drink it, I move her away and say - good Kitty. I think it is confusing her a little bit.

She didn't like that skinny grass I gave her for Christmas. So I thought sprouting the beans might be better. Never heard of cats eating sprouts though!

You know those pathic orchids I bought? Well, one was smelly. I finally rinsed off the roots and it was still smelly. I tried rinsing the roots in a weak solution of bleach. Still smelled. Now I am letting it soak a bit in the bleach solution. I hope that does it. I don't think it will kill the roots, maybe just anything that is rotting with them.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Well, those orchid roots still smell. I am soaking them in vinegar now!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning Venice! Are the roots not supposed to be smelly? What do they smell like?

DS's car broke down this morning. I am crossing my fingers that the roadside assistance my insurance company offers goes smoothly. DH had to go rescue him, he was on his way to work when it died. It won't start, we are having it towed to our mechanic, who is actually there today (small shop owner).

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, sorry about your DS's car. Such a nuisance.

The roots were wet when I bought it. The other one that had dry roots doesn't smell. The smelly one smells like rotten something, all that moss that was with it probably.

I smells better but I will let it soak a bit more.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

yuck!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I stopped soaking it and now it smells like mild celery but not rotten. I will let the roots air dry before doing anything with it. I am out of orchid bark but I have some s. peat moss. That is all I have and I am not buying anything for this plant.

I just read that you can put 2" of strofoam in the botttom of a pot, put the orchid on the strofoam, add peat, and secure the orchid with wire or whatever. Great!!!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

She is all potted. I probably damaged the roots with all what I did to them. But we will see. It is on its own now!

I thought this GW votive was a good pot for my other (pathetic) orchid.

Sorry forgot to add the photo on the last post.

Girls, when you come back, do you know what is going on with this plant. The leaves get yellow or brown and drop off at the base. Too much water or not enough?

(Zone 5b)

sorry Venice I have no idea.
those little xmas trees I bought sprouted, isn't it cute?

Lynnie try some in a milk jug and put outside.
See what happens..

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

It could go either way, Venice. Check the soil to see if it is damp. If so, hold off the water a bit.

Also, a change in temperature can do that too.

(Zone 5b)

the kids want to watch the seeds and water them, it's more their project.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, that is a Christmas tree? That is the cutiest little thing!

JJ, someone was offering 3 trash bags of milk jugs free on Craigslist. I was tempted but I don't want to do that. And I don't want to have to look at them until spring.

Those vinca have been in the same place since I potted them from the garden months ago. It could be that I forgot about them and then over watered them. Or I could have over watered them and let them dry out too much. I should put them in a place where I can keep an eye on them better.

I gave away my Reebok stability ball on freecycle. My PT said I wasn't coodinated enough to use it. I tried selling it on Craigslist but no one was interest.

BUT when the person picked it up, I got her to take a philodendron plant that I didn't want! She was happy to get it but I have just too many of them. It must have had at least 12' of vines on it!

Nice Christmas tree Lynnie, should be ready for lights by end of year lol. Marti, me too, just one little flower popping up would give us hope on the horizon of the white out :-) JJ thats a good thing, no cooking? thats every wifes dream come true! Microwave hot pockets and bisquits and eating out for a week you need that girlfriend! Venice anytime my leaves turn yellow it is usually from too much water. Just sittin in for Moon here, so don't hold me to it :-)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, I have no reason to complain about those plants. They were really dry. I cleaned the dead stuff up and put them over with the other plants so I don't overlook them again.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Lynnie I hope they have better luck then I do. I forget to water or water to much.
I only have one houseplant and I had to make automatic waterer for it because I forgot to water it all the time. Wonder it is alive.

Venice I have one of those balls tried it once and the ball went one way I went the other.
Worked fine for the excercises for knee after surgery, but other than that it was dangerous. hahaha

Milk jugs are under snow can't see them.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

DH found a wire in the wall that over the years the mice had chewed all the coating off.
Wonder we didn't have a fire with those bare wires in wall.
Haven't seen a mouse in few years ( decon in attic, garage rafters and basement).
So they have been that way for awhile.

Flowers DH's boss/friend was over and told me to get out the campstove. I told him to take a hike and set couple extra plates at his house. lol

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

JJ, good heavens! You could have had your own campfire right inside your house!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Yea Venice it was not a good thing to find.
Makes a person wonder what else is lurking under there in other rooms..

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I looked up why my elephant plants were loosing leaves. I wasn't concerned when they were adjusting when I repotted them. Here is what I found.

Dropping leaves can be from overwatering, underwatering, too little sun, too much sun.

I guess that is the problem with ALL withering plants! LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Yeah they covered their butte good with that statement huh Venice LOL. That is scary about the wireing JJ, think a electrician can do a quick scan of sorts from the breaker box and see if their are problems elsewhere, but again may have to short out first.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Gonna shut er back down for a day or so, You ladies have a wonderful Valentines Day and I hope you get spoiled with soft spoken words, sweets of your choice, and lots of hugs and kisses! Cya Monday.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Flowers, sounds like you will have a great weekend!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I have a x BIL and two nephews who are electricians, may have to get them over here for a chek up.

I have to go wake the little GS up or will have to send him to Lynnies tonight so she can stay up with him.
Gramma don't do late nights.lol

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Did you see that race? Apolo Ohno of course. He did great!
