Today's Weather in Your Garden - 62

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We're in the 12" predicted range.

South Hamilton, MA

More snow days for the boys.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Would be the first. Only had a delay twice.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Thank you for the news on Shelley!! I had sent her an email to her work address and didn't get a response, so I wasn't sure she still worked in the same place.

The PNW group up here had a seed swap recently and wanted to send her a little "care package" of seeds. Would you mind contacting her and asking if she wants it?

Meanwhile, stay hunkered down and warm. I hope you are all okay. Last year we had 24 inches of snow (but not in a day!) and were all snowed in over the holidays. This year we've had record warm temperatures (I think we're currently on the 41st day of average temperature above normal) and are living in fear of a frost that will hit all the crazy blooms that are coming up.

Saturday was shorts and t-shirt weather (as long as you were moving). How's that for strange?

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Holy Cow, katie59. I'd love to be in shorts about now.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I know - isn't the disparity ridiculous? We're getting all our weather from Hawaii this winter and then the high systems that are hanging over us are pushing the rain down into California. So what we have is warm and dry.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Lucky you, Katie! Say hi to everyone on the PNW forum. Some mighty nice people there.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Rain will be back at the end of the week, they say.

I sure will victor - most of us are pretty good when we're behaving. ;-)

Y'all are welcome to come visit us any time!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. I'll take you up on that.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

The wind is starting to pick up, brrrrrr

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Same here. Very windy.

Thomaston, CT

It was sunny, windy, & 30, but felt refreshing walking the dogs---snow for Wed? No, no! I need to walk on dry pavement. Katie's post made me smile---I was only able to wear shorts for 2 or 3 days in FL last month---the PNW is locking the heat up, I guess.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Jeff's school is called off again tomorrow. Delaware doesn't do well with snow removal.
It was sunny, but cold here today.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

32°, windchill 15°, wind WNW 14mph, partly cloudy

South Hamilton, MA

snow coming to MA . They've put it off until Wed. afternoon, but increase amount up to 15" in some parts. I think we are a bit short of that. NY & NJ are in for it again. Let's all move to Vancouver.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Toledo is calling for 8-10" and Cleveland 4-6". Great, I'm right in between! DH on call for snowplow duty.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

We are now in the 12-20" range

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's all? Remember - you always ask for snow!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

I used to think, "There's money in snow". As the first flake fell, I'd ask to be taken to Grandmas(she lived in town), so I could shovel her snow, as well as as many neighbors as I could get to before the other boys.We even had a routine. We'd knock on the door and ask if the tenant/home owner wanted us to shovel their snow for so many $s. If the answer was yes, we'd quickly shovel a path and return to the door. Then we told them we would be back to finish and collect, and move on till you bumped into the next entrepreneur. When that happened, you did your 100% job and collected your agreed on fee, and worked your marked territory till you were back to your stating point. After the initial surge in the market you moved to case by case scenario, the ones that wanted to get a bargain or taxed your resources (big jobs), till the market dried up. Only then, you went home, finished that job and collapsed till your next meal. I don't know the last time I saw younger teen boys working a neighborhood to earn their own money. I think we fared better for it, and developed a greater sense of our self worth and a definite sense of the worth of a dollar.
When was the last time someone knocked on your door and asked to shovel your snow, rake your leaves, or mow your lawn. Except for the few of us who did it, probably never! Ric

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

I used to love to rake and shovel for my folks .. . for nothing. Much better to be outside than inside vacuuming and dusting.

It's true - you never see kids volunteering to do the heavy stuff outside anymore.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

only once did a kid come by and offer to shovel .. it's one of the things Randy likes to do his way.. so he declined

25 now going up to 33.. they are saying the white stuff is coming after 4:00

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Possibly two more feet of snow starting tonight into tomorrow! Grrr....

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Finally heard from my brother in Baltimore, said he has no heat, partial lights, 27" of snow with more on the way. He's 67 so I was getting a little worried when I hadn't heard from hm, but he's fine...said the worst part was not having his coffee!! LOL

21* here this morning, nice for a change!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh no... so sorry to hear that Pixie.. hope he has a wood stove or fireplace

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee. Lack of coffee would kill me too!

27 and clear. Biggie tomorrow.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Sunny again today at 19 degrees. Wind has shifted again, this time to a warm direction, SW at 4 or 5 mph. Thanks to the warm air flow we will get above freezing into the upper 30s maybe. Snow tomorrow, we are in the 5-8 inch zone but they do not seem too sure on where and how far north this nor'easter is going to go.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

katie i will send off an email to shelly and let you know.

Ric i used to the neighborhood shovel jobs too - although we did not clear a path and come back later to finish- that was a good idea!

15 here - missed the news so no idea of how much snow will hit here.

South Hamilton, MA

We've moved from 8--15" yesterday to the line between 2-4 & 4-8 today. Does 4" sound reasonable?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i just hope there is enough to go back to xc-skiing again:)

Thomaston, CT

Saying 4" here as well---I'm hoping rain!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Rain would work for me, as long as it is all rain and not a frozen mixed up mess. Temp up to 24 and the wind has picked up and back to NW again. Not a good sign if we are to avoid snow.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Heard a report that NYC schools are already canceled tomorrow! That's unusual.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Does that mean lots of wind??? ^_^

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

38°, windchill 26°, wind NNW 10mph, sunny
Blizzard tomorrow , presently 8-14" snow predicted here.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

35 right now and sunny, idk I'm looking at the satellite images, I think it's going to start later than they say, but what do I know?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Winter storm watch here as well. Latest now upping totals to 8-13. Winds forecast for 30-50mph. I like the first forecast better. All depends how far north the ocean storm gets before heading east how bad it will get here. This does not make me happy.
