How funny, Debra. My DH says the same thing about my 'junk' but most of it won't fit on a table...lol You ought to dig up the whole yard and have nothing but flowers. That my goal anyway and I'll have it one of these days. Who needs grass?
Bet that bloom made your day, Joyce. It's a darn good thing those pups are a small breed....I'm looking for a big yard dog.
Shes about too... #48
We got Sam to keep the deer away, last year was his first year.....only problem he was a pup and ate everything when left out side.......so that didn't work so well. I THINK he has gotten better but I still don't leave him outside yet all night by himself. Never had a dog that could get in so much mischief. I have a whiskey barrel and last year he kept taking the water plants out, I would put them back and he would take them out. I finally gave up when one morning I walked out and heard this funny sound and he had taken the pump out! So before he killed himself I unplugged everything and moved the water plants. He is a sweetie but oh my.
Sam's a cutie. Is that the same pup that ate your books too?
fotv, that is the dog who ate the book, all the cushions on the outside furniture, flower pots, plant tags, hose, door mat, and many other too numerous things to list...LOL He is such a sweetie and a really good dog short of that small problem...LOL
The bulbs look so nice. That is going to be beautiful. When did you plant it? Are they joniquils (?) and tulips?
Rain your direction? That is all we have had and when it isn't raining the sun is behind the clouds. I don't think I have seen the sun in weeks! Rain yesterday, lots, no rain today, but no sun either. It is heading your way I am guessing.
Very cute dog, very nice brug bloom, thanks for showing us!
. Nice tub of bulbs, Susan. I really like your variety in there.
.. I worked in the flower beds all day, I am pooped out....
Had a pot roast in the crock pot and when I came in tonight it was heaven.
My bulbs are all up and coming..
I am thrilled that the wegalia made it thru winter.. it is a nice dark one. Still watching my dark red hibiscus , it looks like it is still asleep.. the chinese wisteria has leaf shoots everywhere, and the other wisteria is 4 years old I am hoping for blooms this year.
I rounded up all the brugs I am sending away, fed them and sprayed them, they are getting ready to go byebye..
I bought an Elizabeth from JT, it has four buds on it already. I am so ready to get these big guys outside.
I'm jealous!! Been rainy for two days. Can't get much done outside. My burgs in the bathroom are growing bigger every day. I'll have to look at transplanting them to bigger pots soon. My 4 O'clock (also in the bathroom) is also blooming gaily. I think its going to sent some seeds. Will wait and see. I have a small peony and an iris, also growing in the bathroom. Getting ready to start tomatoes seeds in there now.
I have to grow some tomatoes. I just pd $4.00 for two tomatoes at the store. OH my world!!!
Linda Kay, that moutain laurel is beautiful.
Debra, it is sooo wet the most I can do is cut but dead stuff. The hardy hibiscus, atleast the ones I have come up very very late. They are the last thing to break the ground. Most of the time I think they are dead and they finally break thru.
Marti....LOL you sound like me I have plants everywhere...LOL I heard the Florida freeze got the tomatoe crop which is why they are so darn expensive.
Planted up some daylilies I had growing in water last weekend and some more today. They have been in water since last fall. The ones from last weekend are looking and good and really growing fast already..
Just saw a bad storm went thru PA, hope none of you are affected!
Joyce my Dh is going crazy with all the dirt tracks, leaves and stuff I bring in and out, not to mention that every window sill in the house and even the tops of the window ledges are holding seed cups..
I have hope about my hisbiscus, thanks for letting me know..
these whirly gig zinnias just got transplanted to peat pots.. they have been in the window over our bed..
Debra I need to trim out all the broken parts of my Weigela. They really took a hit in the snow. They are always so pretty and I hope they rebound. Anybody have a dappled willow?? I bought one in PA a few years back and positively love it. Tried to get some more for clients, but my suppliers could never find any. Just asking. That's another shrub that I adore.

Several people have them available for trade!
When we began remodeling our home in 2005, the first thing we did was replace the single-pane windows with double-hung windows that tilt out and are easy to clean. They've more than paid for themselves on our electric bill but I'm still griping about the skinny the window sills. They're all only 3" deep. What the heck can you put on that? Let Joe gripe, Debra, at least you have decent size ledges and look at those spouts.
Susan, you can punch holes in plastic water bottles, get some light weight floral wire at dollar store, and hang them from a cheap curtain rod inside your window curtains..
That Dappled willow is pretty!
Got it and will do. The only alternative I'd thought of was putting a shelf over my kitchen sink. Now I know how I can grow seedlings hanging from every window. You're a peach :)
It is so fun to watch them.. I love sowing seeds.. as you can tell, I am a seed addict..
Last year on March 28th we had a heavy winter snow.. by march 31st it was 67 degrees.. it stayed mild and spring like until the week of April 12th, which I took off work to plant things from the inside to the outside.. it remained in the 40s' all that week.. I hope it doesn't do that again this year, but they say we are getting snow this Saturday.
In the water bottle, if you hang them with the spout and lid down, cut the bottom off and fill almost to the top with potting mix, you can just insert the open end in the spring to where you want things to grow without disturbing the roots.. take the cap off before you sink into the ground. I did that with all my water bottle planters last year, including a few brugs, which were really easy to up root with those bottles around their bases.. morning glories, tomatoes, peppers, brugs, were a snap to plant. Those bottles are easy to cut away as well. also, you can cut them in half, put a seed plug in, top back on ( you might have to snip some strips to get it to fit back over, hang and let germinate and then take plugs out and plant. so easy!
Thanks for the link LK. You folks that can do seeds are so lucky. I can get them to sprout, but after that it is all downhill. Biggest problem seems to be when I have to harden them off. For some reason that is a big trial for me. I even bought that mini greenhouse a couple of years ago thinking that would help. I still lost everything. I think I'll just stick to lettuce for now. :))
oh now neener, ... try planting seeds in a container and find a clear plastic cover for it and get some some out now...I guess I better send u some majic mix..
Linda, your box will go out to you this weekend, if it isn't too bad weather wise..
What size water bottles should I use to do that? I have a good stash of pints, 1/2 gallon juice bottles, and gallon milk jugs. Also yogurt cups a neighbor saved for me, just wondering if they're worth keeping and what seeds I could start in them? Oh, most of the jugs I Winter Sowed were gallon size but I also used those plastic containers rotisserie chickens come in. So far Lazlo's Mystery Mix, black and pink Hollyhocks, Agastache, and Silene armeria "Catch Fly" popping up.
I tried the winter sowing thing a few years ago. Didn't work. I know it has something to do with the dynamics of being here in the shade. I lived in a townhouse years ago and had a vegetable
garden. Never had any trouble when I had sun. That's why I'm so looking forward to a retirement "farm".

Look at these new items. Kinda pricey at $10.00 an egg!
Was wondering if we can't use egg shells for seedlings?
I have some seeds in egg shells for sprouting. I'll let you know how it works.
Marti
Shoot LK, those would be easy to make with my egg forms. I could just take the end with the pour hole and cut it out more. Fire them and they would be ready to go. Cool idea!
Debra, you are just a clever thing....with those bottles.
Wish I had started seed....but I didn't. Might start some this late, 67 today 63 tomorrow snow on Saturday....hum wonder why it might be difficult to grow things...LOL
Hey I always wondered what that shrub was I have (dabbled willow) and now you guys told me. I love it. Especially when it has pink tips. Sorry to say my tree is shading part of it now so it is leaning toward the sun! Afraid to move it. Anything with the name willow should be easy to start wouldn't you think?
Juanita, will the porcelain deteriorate in the ground? Let me know how it goes?
Joyce my willow leans for the sun too. What little I have. Everything stretches for it.
LK the fired ceramic bisque is OK with soil in it., I used to make violet pots and the liners were unglazed so that they could absorb the water in the pot. No problems.
I was just wondering if they plant the seeds with the ceramic eggs, how do the roots continue to grow?
Good question. I didn't realize that was what they were going to do with them. They are not porous enough for that.
all the plants grow for up to five months in the Eggling's fortified peat mixture, after which the Eggling can be planted directly in soil.
This is what the website said, and I just could not figure how the roots grew?
That sounds really odd.
It is killing me to be at work today, it is warm and beautiful.......help someone save me.
It is very nice here today also, 72 this afternoon!
Juanita, if you make some of them, I would love to have some to start seeds in? They would be so pretty, sitting in the window with seeds in them! Even for gift giving.
LK I may try it, but it won't be anymore now until next winter. We start mulching on Monday and mowing won't be far behind. Got a bunch of new clients to work with and they all want it done NOW.. gotta love it.. This business gives me my fun money, but they don't pay enough for me to ask "how high?" when they say jump. :0)
I swear you can see the grass growing here. And me with no fertilizer down. Gee anybody know a good landscaper? :0)
No problem, when you get to it. Just start a project list for next year! ^_^
Think I might have to do that since I can't remember my name right now. :0)
I got an eggling for mothers day last year.. once they sprouted it went down hill from there..
So in that little egg you are suppose to be able to grow a plant? Doesn't seem real logical. A sunflower in an egg, I could understand like a native plant that grows in the rocks around here would work. They are really cute tho.
OK, get home from work and that dang lab ate the canes to my hydrangea's! Ughh! Then I start looking for my dahlia bulbs and cannas and realize I left them in the unheated storage building! I had some of those 5 years.....can't believe I did that. Talk about not remembering. I put them in there to dry out and 4 months and down to -10degrees later I remember.......love(d) my big old dahlias! Costco has some in bags, I may have to treat myself.
OK, Linkda Kay, don't rub in your great wonderful weather! Bet you won't have snow on Saturday.....jealous aren't ya....LOL
I have lots of stuff coming up, those plants won't be very happy either about the snow.
Joyce can you believe I did the same thing? put some dahlia bulbs in a bag to store, forgot them in the garage, they all froze.. sheesh!
I had some nice big dinner plate ones , too.. *sniff*
Are there any chanes of the surviving? Sorry to hear they may be frozen!
