What's the one thing you're looking most foward to when the weather warms up?

Just the fact that is warm? or a particular flower?
Please share.

I am SO looking foward to seeing my new blue and yellow garden in bloom. I think only other gardeneners understand how exicted you get over these things. My hubby thinks I'm crazy.

This is the early spring collage, I can't wait.

Well, the I. reticulata will be first, only one Katharine Hodgkin last yr. I wonder if the poor thing will return. Then blue 'Harmony'. But I want to see ALL our iris plants!

I love the warmth and the sun so much I actually look forward to that first. I am doing a new dahlia bed this year along with a new arbor that I will cover in morning glories. I may redo my perennial bed of I can, lots of thinning out and moving around.

Warmth, warmth, glorious warmth!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

In spite of the snow showers and cold wind, I felt the warmth of the sun.
The list is too long.Mostly I want to see my new lilies.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

The warmth of the sun, the return and singing of the summer birds, and color on the finches again. And of course the flowers. Looking forward to making the new extension and sticking in some new babies. Oh won't it be lovely to feel the soil again. Ha, I'm smiling just thinking about it.

I also miss the bird songs at dawn.

South Hamilton, MA

A titmouse was trying to do the spring song the other day. It must not realize that it will be cold again.

I absolutely love listening to the peepers, thanks for the link. I usually go to the park to hear them. They can be so loud. Maybe that is the first thing since they are earlier than most of the garden.

The Philly show in March, I'm so looking forward to it, I may have to Edison, NJ in February to whet my appetite.LOL
Has anyone been to the Jersey show? Is it worth a 3 hours drive? Thanks, Ric

Allison had been to the Jersey show.

I'm looking forward to so many things after this winter (I got the flu Christmas Eve then pneumonia, doc called me today said chest exray still not clear but I'm having my stupid gall bladder out Feb 2 anyway---unless I develop a fever or cough) that I don't know where to start. Sun and warmth and outside will do for a beginning. I reticulata at the back door. Snow drops along my woods path. Walks on the hill near here in the woods when the Spring Beauty, Trout Lily and Trillium bloom. Early daylilies. Two groups of about a dozen daylily seedlings each that are half siblings, one a cross with a spring pod parent, the other a cross using the same pollen with a fall blooming pod parent. Both were started from seed in the Spring of 2008, two plants bloomed last summer--most of the rest should bloom for the first time this year, possibility of a very early red (red Spring pod parent bloomed from May 28 until June 29 last year) one red from a fall parent I've already posted some where here- my wife's pick. The Spring red----

Oh, and April 1st is the first day of open water fishing here, I want to go brook fishing!!
Last year I had family duties that kept me very occupied and never went fishing once. I think that is why I was so stressed out when fall rolled around. I never got togo up North to fish or hike like I normally do to release the stress!! The birds serenade you up North like nowhere else in the world!! Ask Bll & Debilu!! ^_^

Definitely warmth and a cuppa outside. Next is veggie garden this year. Jeff built 3 raised beds , but I have to line them cuz he used treated wood.
After that - EVERYTHING
I love to see waht came back and the new bulbs that were planted and how they will fit in with the rest of the garden (hoping I put them where they will look nice) I do some planning, but it's hard for me to picture it. I draw maps. I so love JoAnn's collages.

Pretty Jen. Nice reds to make a statement in the garden. Now that is another thing I am looking forward to, everyones garden pics with all the new combos and first time flowers.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The first time plants and this is the 3rd year for many, plus the NOID lily bulbs that came tossed into a DL order, are what keeps my anticipation going.
First I want to see if they sprout and next to see what color they bloom.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Definitely, yours, too, Jen. ^_^ especially the red color. I love red

I am hung up on Victor's all over tan?

I don't think that is on my list of firsts. which always includes peepers or as they are called on Nantucket, pinkletinks, the returning swallows, coffee on the porch, the first tulip, the first narcissus, the blooming of the shad trees (Amelanchier) along the roads, the first corn eaten, the first rosa rugosa bloom, the first crocus, the first reticulated iris, the first seeds planted in the veggie bed, the first lettuce from the garden, the first tomato, and the first day that the weeds disappear on their own. Still waiting on that one.

Here is the first reticulated iris on March 12th last year. Patti

for me it is just getting outside and working in the yard - have a bunch of things i want to get done this spring - and the peepers - with the wet lands out back we have to shut our windows they get so loud - some real happy frogs back there!!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh yes leaves, in that spring green color. Oh dear a few flurries here now and the really cold temps coming back tomorrow, just to remind us we still have a little time to wait, but it is not so long now. :)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, anything would be happy living in view of your garden.

I agree about working outside. I am about to head out now as it is quiet mild, but cold returning this weekend. Gotta do it when you can. We have to start stacking the prunings for the winter burn pile, which is another thing that I look forward to now that they are letting us burn again with a permit. Last year we started Feb 13th, and I assume we will have taken down 3 more dead pines by then to burn. It is magical to sit out by the big bonfire after dark in the middle of winter. In Wha's honor, a beer in hand. Patti

sounds great to me patti! :)

Just came in from bulb planting, she says sheepishly. We got the last box of sale bulbs in mid Dec from Brent and Becky which was the week we had a big freeze. We had known what was coming, so we predrilled about 200 of the 350 holes we needed while the ground was still soft, but then we just never were here when it wasn't frozen solid. The bulbs stayed happy in a cool basement and all seem fine. Today was perfect by mid day to plant them all. So I am final done with the bulbs. Now for the wait. I think they may bloom a tad later than normal, but I expect them bloom just fine. Patti

My back hurts just imagining that.

ge1836, It was only a couple of hours and not too difficult. It was actually fun to be poking about in the dirt. Our dogs have been naughty about digging holes in many spots, so we raked those too. I hope the ground stays frozen hard until March so they can't dig so much. Bad bad girls. Our endless stream has been flowing freely today which is nice to hear, but I expect it will be frozen again by tomorrow. I look forward to it being frost free and gurgling happily. Patti
