HaH! Found Y'all! Lost ya back on the 26 or 27th.
Faith kitty is at the spay clinic today. Man or man, her first ride in a cat carrier, and she was panicking bigtime. Asked Randall, "why is her mouth hanging wide open? is she ok?" He explained he knew that look from his old cat Wellington - it was sheer pure fright. I felt so so sorry for her.
Vet wanted $240 if it was a routine spay. Meds ,etc. on top of that, more if she cycled back into heat. I went online and found SNAP clinic. It took an extra week, but there was room for her in their mobile units scheduled today at a location about 10 miles from here (in front of Brier Creek's Petco). Cost is $3 for pain meds and $60 to spay, $15-20 more if she's back in heat. We could have gone to the ASPCA for nearly free. But I've seen too many animals catch diseases there, like kennel cough. I'm leaving to pick her back up in about 20 mins.
۞ Sweet Interruptions ۞182
240 is WAY to much to spay a cat. it was only 80 to have my little dog done
Pegi, I've never figured out why anyone anywhere would throw out a cookbook. But they do.
Back around 2001 when he was laid off and unemployed, Randall started going with me to garage sales looking for used books. He is an avid reader and couldn't afford his usual 4 books a week purchases. Someone suggested he try used bookstores. He loves used book stores! He started making trips around the state(s) just for this. Now he shops online, but we still visit used bookstores when we find them. While he shopped, I started browsing used cookbooks and gardening books. It gave me something to do.
Now, here's the thing. I lost all my cookbooks in the divorce - ex kept them. Lost my joy in cooking. With only myself and two young kids, no time or $ as a single mom, it ended up not mattering. Then I married a finicky eater, so it still didn't matter.
Randall knew the score from the divorce, and knew I needed a reason to tag along and keep him company on his trips. Silly man - he said I could have all the cookbooks I would use!
Once I started collecting, I started cooking. Now my joy of cooking is BACK. Despite ex's attempt to hurt me, I have - maybe 15 times? - the collection of cookbooks I once had! all bought CHEAP.
Oddly enough, I've never bought a Julia Child cookbook. After seeing the movie, I think I'd like one!
Laughter certainly is the BEST medicine!!
Had a good chat and laugh with sistah Judy and GIANT ARMWRAPS there gal! I certainly need those uplifting words and you've made my day today!!
Okay.. ready to tackle that machine .. and btw, didn't have to uncork that bottle nor take the painkiller! Suffer a little less with just Tylenol.
Good for you Maid M. Glad you found your 'compass' and staying on the course! But more glad that you are feeling much more better.
Have you found your stack and whack blocks yet? I want to see... ehem.. I better look for mine too.. for Bon's sake!
Hey Sis Kathy.. what's a v5 break?
Don't have that cookbook Pegi. Like you, I sometimes wonder why people throw good books away.. but then.. if they don't.. I won't have a big, cheap collection!
Bon, think I have all of Julia's books. Learnt to cook standing rib of roast from her on one of her PBS shows in the early 80's. She's one amazing woman.
See, CRS again here. Julie, DG is a wonderful place for explorations of the mind besides botany and crafts.
Received this in a email. Oh so true!!
Is there a magic cutoff period when
offspring become accountable for their own
Actions? Is there a wonderful
moment when Parents can become detached spectators in
The lives of their children and shrug, 'It's
Their life,' and feel nothing?
When I was in my twenties, I stood in a hospital
Corridor waiting for doctors to put a few
Stitches in my daughter's head. I asked, 'When do
you stop worrying?' The nurse said,
'When they get out of the accident stage.' My
Dad just smiled faintly and said nothing.>
When I was in my thirties, I sat on a little
Chair in a classroom and heard how one of my
Children talked incessantly, disrupted the class,
And was headed for a career making
License plates. As if to read my mind, a teacher
Said, 'don’t worry, they all go through
this stage and then you can sit back, relax and
Enjoy them.' My dad just smiled
faintly and said nothing.
When I was in my forties, I spent a lifetime
Waiting for the phone to ring, the cars to come
Home, the front door to open. A friend said,
'They're trying to find themselves. Don't worry,
In a few years, you can stop worrying. They'll be
Adults.' My dad just smiled faintly
And said nothing.
By the time I was 50, I was sick & tired of being
Vulnerable. I was still worrying over my
Children, but there was a new wrinkle. There
was nothing I could do about it. My
Dad just smiled faintly and said nothing. I
Continued to anguish over their failures, be
Tormented by their frustrations and absorbed in
their disappointments.
My friends said that when my kids got married I
Could stop worrying and lead my own
Life. I wanted to believe that, but I was
Haunted by my dad's warm smile and his
Occasional, 'You look pale. Are you all right?
Call me the minute you get home. Are
You depressed about something?'
Can it be that parents are sentenced to a
Lifetime of worry? Is concern for one another
Handed down like a torch to blaze the trail of
Human frailties and the fears of the
Unknown? Is concern a curse or is it a virtue
That elevates us to the highest form of life?
One of my children became quite irritable
recently, saying to me, ‘Where were you? I've been
Calling for 3 days, and no one answered I was worried.'
I smiled a warm smile.
The torch has been passed.
PASS IT ON TO OTHER WONDERFUL PARENTS
(And also to your children... That's the fun)
--
Women and cats will do as they please, Men and dogs should relax and get used to it.
Cindy, that is so true
ROTHL
know that "daddy warm smile" well. Whenever he was asked what he wanted as a gift for this occasion or that, Dad would always say, "Peace and quiet."
About the time my oldest turned 13, I figured out why.
Jaye, I don't know how to do a standing rib roast - guess I'll just have to get some of her books. They were always more expensive, even though cheaper than new, so I never bought one. Is there one you'd recommend as my first?
I received this "Quilt Magic" no sew wall hanging kit for Christmas. It is really easy and fun to do. The foam borard is cut and you tuck the fabric in the cuts. It came with other colors that I didn't care for. So I am using colors that I will be using in my quilt for my bed.
Plus I'm busy making candles for Valentine's day. Better Than Sex Cake, Bite Me, Angel, Jovan Musk, VooDoo Love, Lily of the Valley, & Apple Crisp are the new scents I have.
Afternoon everyone. I fonally figured out my paper pieced block and have it done. It will be going out in the mail tomorrow! Once I figured out which way the fabric needed to go, it was a piece of cake.
Synda, those videos were so pretty. Made you just sit back and relax.
Bon, sorry you lost your cookbooks, but wow, look how many you have now! Nice going!
Jaye, we just had roast beef, and mashed taters for sinner, I'll take a glass of that wine please?
Marion, how you doing this afternoon? Better I hope?
Cindy, love that story, it is priceless.
I think Kathy meant to type a V8 break?
LK
Oh Cindy, that is ging to be so pretty, make sure you show us the finished product! Those new candles sure sound interesting! Sounds like you stay busy with them?
I could use some Bailey's, too!
I could go for some Baileys, too.
LK - don't be sorry. You know, I point out to people I counsel, "look, I lost all my cookbooks. All my Christmas ornament collection. All my pretty clothes. All my records. Every physical "thing" I treasured was kept from me except a creche I made (age 13 - he couldn't claim it was his) and a vase that was sentimental, from a now deceased neighbor, which he girlfriend gave me back. Overnight I lost my home, my furniture, my job and my friends, too.
But (I go on), just LOOK! I have 10 times 10 times more now! So cry if you must over what you lost. Then put it all behind you and look to to future because God is there. God is good, and He uses all things to His glory and to show His love. My heart broke back then. My earthly father told me, "pretend there was a fire, all things are destroyed and lost forever, but you got out with your lives, and that's what's important." He sent me 100 times the love, a better job, bigger better house, nicer furniture, more cookbooks, so many Christmas ornaments I need 3 trees. And that's just the beginning!
Audrey I'm so glad you're feeling better!
I've been missing ya'll big time! I missed a day somewhere...
The forecast here is sleet and freezing rain after midnight into tomorrow late morning, but it's already been sleeting off and on, so maybe, just maybe no worky jerky tomorrow... hhhhmmmmmmm
I just saw the weather report and ouch is all I can say!! Please everyone that is going to have that "mess" be careful and take care of yourselves. We are to have rain starting tomorrow night and Saturday, then 2 more days next week.
That's a good one Cindy. Responsible parents can't help themselves but worry constantly over their young ones. And the torch do pass on to them that have experienced that loving concern.
Still haven't start on the block LK. Maybe tomorrow. Kel promised me a day off. So proud of you!
Cabernet Sauvignon goes very well with roast beef.
Bon, I learnt that from a show, but will go through the books I have for the recipe. If you want to acquire some of her books, you can always look for them at Abebooks or Alibris, where they sell used books.
Btw.. you're so right... material stuffs should never define our existence ;)
Crissy, I've been missing you too!!!!! Don't fret sweetie.. if it's any consolation, I'll be getting some sleet tomorrow too :( Do hope you won't have to travel in those conditions! How's Dave doing?
Maid M.. you be safe too. Wish we're living closeby.. we'll share the pirogue!!
Ladies, this evening after picking up some much needed inventory, Kel decided on Hamburger Joe's. A hamburger joint that serves that and hotdogs, and low country bbq.
We went to one that's closer to where we were.. our first time there.
Kel saw the sign and pulled the box truck into the parking lot.
I alighted first and was wondering why these ladies were staring hard at me...
Walked into the restaurant, and we notice there is a bar on the right and the furnishings are TOTALLY different from the other Hamburger Joe's.
So, Kel asked what was the restaurant's name, and the host said "Joe's Bar And Grill"! It was an upscale restaurant!
(Remember sometime back we misread Hillbilly's Still N Grill?? And we assumed it to be ...still.. grillin..)
Then I understood the stares!!! Hehehehe...
Oops Project Runway is on!
you would not believe the gals I've counseled, Jaye. They are so scared to give up the material things.
Dr. Epperson's funeral is tomorrow morning in Greensboro NC, just over 1.5 hr from here. I'm going with friends. wish us luck getting back home. we'll be driving through ice, sleet or snow.
Will do Bon. Please allow yourselves plenty of time to get there.
I'm off to bed.. leaving Kel to watch Queen on tv!
Good night everyone!
Bonjon, one of the hardest thing for ne to do when I left home was to leave all my "stuff"! But I picked up one thing at a time, and now I have lots of stuff! When I left, I took a small fold-away cot, 2 king size pillows, and my TV, besides the clothes. The first time I bought food, I got icecream, and discovred I didn't have even a spoon to eat it with! I got out an eyebrow brush and used the handle to eat it with! My best friend and I got a big laugh about it. I bought a spoon the next day!
I feel so much better today! I cleaned out my freezer before I made coffee this morning! I usually don't have the energy!!
Good Morning!
Jaye, Sistah Love, Thank you for the Giant Armwraps,, Right back at you.
Sure love to chat with you and thanks for listening and the much needed suppport.
Yep, Laughter is the best medicine, sometime thats all that can be done.lol and better then crying.
OMG Cindy!! I love your Christmas present. Your butterly is going to be spectacual!
Audrey, So glad you are feeling much better. heheh, want to come clean my fridge? Yikes and yow, Kitchen area next on my to do list.
Well, got to say..I am so behind in all my threads.
Sending Armwraps and Prayers for all, needed or not.
Now that my project is complete, I can resume to my regular schedule!
OH, Jaye, got my van back yesterday finally! Today..skipping over to Walgreens for envies.
Best get at it so I can mail out too.
See you all later.
Have a Groovy Day!!
Bon that worries me about you all driving in that. I'm home today on Inclement Weather because of it, but I won't drive in freezing rain even if there is no weather policy out. I'm not used to it, didn't grow up in it, and not dealing with it now LOL!
Well I'm going to go see what else I can get into, maybe finish one of those pillow cases I've been embroidering for years now.
g'morning, sistahs!!
I missed this thread.... but I'm baaaaaack (I couldn't see anyone had posted, so lost y'all!)
Well, here's a scary thing - it's a pic of me as I'm getting "zapped" at the dentist's office yesterday. Same thing last Monday...
If you've got a squeamish tummy, don't look LOL kidding - I don't Really look like Hannibal Lechter.......
Forgot to say - they took a casting of my mouth, and I get a mouth guard on Feb 22nd.

Morning everyone. Hey Audrey, so glad to see your feeling better. My freezer needs cleaning too!
hey Judy, how are you all doing? Such cold weather all over the place. My son in Amarillo, got almost a foot yesterday! geesh, Spring has to be right around the corner!
Coffee is on! How about some hot chocolate too?
Oh my gosh Susan! WOW! Hope it was not too painfull, and hope the treatments are working for you?
The procedure works for a bit, to relax the jaw (electric pulses through my temple, neck and shoulders, and of course my jaw).
It's only meant to relax it enough so they could take a casting of how my jaw Should be positioned. It doesn't hurt per se, but it's annoying, and tiring....
I get the mouth guard fitted on the 22nd and then I'll wear it day & night.
The 1st time (Monday) they did it, the pulse was too strong, and after 50 minutes it was soooooo tiring..... I didn't feel quite "right" for the whole day. Yesterday they didn't do it as long, but got a good "stable" reading after about 10-15 min, so that wasn't too bad. However, after eating lunch, I was exhausted... both from the procedure, and from using my jaw to eat... think I'm gonna have soup for lunch today lol
It'll be fine once I've worn the guard for awhile and get used to it. Apparently (I suppose like dentures, which I don't have...), you talk kinda funny for 2-3 days, then get used to it.
♪~§usan~♪
Susan,I have never seen such a contraption, but are beautiful no matter what is on your head........The guard, does it fit in your mouth and have a plate like fasle teeth, but then goes down around your teeth? If so I used to wear one of those.Wore indentations in it grinding my teeth at night, and that thing cost me $1000.But they never zapped me with eletric shock, honey are you sure your at the denist? It's ok you can tell us.......but I thought they outlawed that in the 60's......LOL.Ya know I love ya.....gotta pick on someone and Rick is at work and the cat is sleeping !
LOL!
Synda, how are you doing? How about your son, are they going to prosecute the room mate that took his game?
Ry is good.not sure what is going on w/ the roommate. He is gone.
How are you and your dad , Linda Kay.......
We are doing well, Thanks! Watching the price is right, and then going out for lunch! Maybe to applebee's? Pick up a few groceries, then back home.
Too cold to do anything else.
O sweetie come see me ,then will talk too cold....LOL.
No thanks, you can keep it! ^_^
ROFLMBO................I bet
YIKES Susan!!!
Jaye, Darling Sistah!!!! I love the fabric you sent so does my mom ^_^. And those tins are fantastic!! Perfect for hoilday candles this year. How did you know I had that in mind?? I have been searching the thrift stores for tins. They make the best candles for traveling. And the pattern for the purese is perfect to go with the dress THANK YOU!!!!
I have to go to DMV my tags for registration got sent to my old address. And Rick being the jerk he is wouldn't send them to me, he put not at this address and sent them back. They were mailed out on the 3rd and I have been freaking out wondering what happened to them. Man I so regret the day I met that jerk and wasted 3 years of my life with him.
Ok gotta get ready minimum day for Taylor so will be picking her up then see if I can beat her at some wii games ^_^. She doesn't like getting beat, lol.
cindy, keep the reciept for your tags. they are tax deductable.
just got home from the dr. i might have to have another surgery on my back. we will know on the 9th of feb.
Hey there everyone!
Blissful day today, the lull before the ice storm cometh!!! Yep, we're predicted to be getting ice and sleet, but mercifully, where I'm at, supposed to be torrential rains. Will get that generator going just in
case.
Audrey, a brow bush handle? Ain't that too small??? I would have tore off a corner of a box or something!! Anyway.. you never thought that you're back to accumulating what you had before eh?
Glad you're home Crissy. Embroidery? That's more tedious work than quilting!! Can't have too much mistakes!!
Sistah Judy!!!! Got heat will travel!!! Ahhh.. the offer still stands.. anytime.. you want a good laugh or cry... call!! Did you include Skittles in my pack? I got his paper ready;)
Don't you all just want to hug Susan there?
Yep, Synda, that's what DH asked last night. Has Susan checked her dentist's credentials to be certain he's not an experimental scientist?
Susan, why don't they just give you a bottle of wine instead of all that contraption to relax your jax? I bet that will only cost you under $10 :D
Dear dear sweetheart.. on a serious note.. you're one brave sistah to go through that. But it need to be done right..
Haven't been to Applebee's in ages. Love their spinach dip if they still offer that.
LK, I bet your dad's smiling since he's been home. Sons are okay.. but it's always us daughters that know how to treat our parents right. My opinion before one of you DG men lurkers hit me with a dmail :D
Synda, I bet Ry will be less trusting next time, and lock up his 'expensive' stuffs!!
Hey Julie.. did you get some writing done?
Maid M., me and Kelvin want to thank you so much for introducing us to Susan Boyle during the early stages of her competition.
We got her cd today and it is so inspirational! Her voice is certainly one of this century's greatest discoveries.
I highly recommend this to all you sistahs.
I'll be around.. got to get that block done. Have a beautimous day everyone.
Hello everyone.. snowing ice underneath ..
Jaye my right leg since knee replacement 3 1/2 yrs ago or 4 now was so wrong .. i have had pain ever since now its getting so bad its horrible.. from hip to toes no kidding.. I know what going thru..prayers..
Cindy love that .. oh candles sound so good... and candy hmmmm..
but between us all I'm trying so hard to loose stomach just will not can not loose oz. no matter what , he grips grips ..
Everyone be well safe.. i have layerd clothes on.. Stay warm. Well..
I have NEVER been to Applebee's........looks good in the commercials..........
Kathy, because I am on SSD and don't own a house etc. I can't itemize so therefore dmv tags are no good to me.
I meant to say to all. I have a lot of candles left over from the holidays. I would be more that happy to do a swap. I'm doing a swap with Cookie/joycet canldes for candy yum yum. I have hers made just got to get them mailed so I can get some of her yummy candy. Candles for fabrics, craft items, flower seeds etc. I am going to take some pix and make a list of what I have made up. If you interested you can dmail.
I need to make room for other stuff and new candles for Spring.
I'm starting to feel low again, as I feel pretty sure I'm not going to get that job. It dawned on me that they hadn't asked for any references, so that's probably a pretty telling sign... :o( Kathy is trying to keep my spirits up, and I'm trying, really I am...
Our microwave is on it's last legs. It's really old and only 800 watts, but gosh you don't realize how much you use something until it's not working like it should! I've checked Craig's list, but so far, not having much luck. There was one that looked perfect...not too old, right color and the price was right so I called on it right away....sold...why didn't he remove the ad then???????
It is really cold today. We went to exercise but we didn't walk our mile outside like we usually do....brrrrr....our instructor fell on the ice and broke her wrist. She had to have surgery and pins....but she was there today and did what she could and talked us through what she couldn't. I haven't been for the last three times and baby, I'm sore!
Oh Joyce - why oh why don't they remove old ads..... darn, eh?
I advertise on Craiglist and Kijiji and remove ads when stuff is sold.....
Haven't even started on the block...
fed the kids.. bite on an Asian pear.. listened to more Susan Boyle.. and taking a break.. oh for Sweeeeeeeet Interrutpions!!
Cindy, how wonderful you got the package!! Those tins were purchased at Michael's when they went on sale. When I saw them, I thought about you right away.. and unfortunately.. as usual.. I was the last one in getting to that sale! Yep, you'd be ready for this Christmas.
Sounds like a good idea on a trade for candles.
Sistah Kathy, I do wish it's just a severe strain/sprain. Don't you go around picking anything heavier than a bologna sandwich!!
Cookie, I'd suggest sticking to mall walking. Much safer and warmer!!
Hey there Twyla. I think you have MORE patience than the rest of us!!! I pray that God grant me patience but I want it now!! Somehow, I'm tested everyday when some joints or bones started hurting!
Okay.. trying to do what I'm supposed to do in the first place.. wonder where those cut pieces are... do you know Susan?
