Bulbs on the south side are peaking. No Blooms anywhere.Victor is 4 weeks ahead of us.
The back of the house is in a North East direction. The snow is really deep there. I am hoping for rain to take most of it out.

Ge1836, they bloom for me starting around March 12 - 18 depending on year and location in the garden, if not covered by snow. These little guys are troopers. The photo is a group from LAST March 21, 2009 being watched by little Nell. This group is Iris reticulata Purple Gem. I don't plant them in Vt as they would be covered by snow.

Looking at the photo I see I need to add some crocus to this area for next year, I think little white ones. I thought we had, but I just checked in my journal and we didn't plant any new there for this early spring except 10 more bonus I.r.Purple Gem from McClure and Zimmerman. We did plant 225 more crocus in other beds. Where are they? I think Victor and Nuts are using electric blankets. Patti

What a treat

They might bloom earlier if the pooch was not so intimidating. ^_^

Victor, She is a totally sweetie, when she is not digging up the bulbs, climbing trees, racing through every bed, chewing on shrubs, and making big depressions in the beds for sleeping in. All times two as she has a sister who is same age with the same habits except she does not climb trees. She is bigger and makes more holes. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Patti

I'm going to try this mixture recommended from a fellow dg'r. Hope it works to keep Wall-e out of my gardens. Maybe I can then expand more in the backyard.

Into an old milk jug add:

2 cups water
3/4 Tbsp ground cayenne pepper
1/3 Shake a bottle of hot tabasco sauce and pour in 1/3
1 Tbsp Castor Oil
Squirt of liquid dishwashing detergent (Dawn or any other)
Shake everything well
