They will be here in 2 weeks.Hope the snow is gone by then.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Sigh we had robins here all winter. And there's a ton of snow out there this AM. One cool thing was that my new generator kicked in briefly so I have no worries for the orchids this year!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yay Boojum! I bought the generator and sucumbed to a few orchids too finally. ^_^ i got them dirt cheap so if I kill them it won't kill me. paid $17.00 for all 3 ...that included shipping. This guy was great!

We are not luck with orchids, just our 1 cymbideum which is still blooming since early Jan.
Yours look pretty good Pixi.
Boojum is the orchid champ.

Looks like a nice deal pixie. They all are happy and healthy by the looks of them. Hope to see some lovely bloom pics soon.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Celeste, you just got me to do some bidding, however I noticed they are said to be 3-4 years from blooming, so it'll be awhile before I see any blooms on them. Oh, well. The seller can't spell all that well, I noticed, but the orchids are cheap. I bid on three, and my max bid was $3 on each, though I think I'll get them cheaper, as there were no other bids and the auctions are almost done. Not unless someone else gets in at the last minute.

Anyhow, I have success with one cattleya orchid I bought last year. It's still alive with new growth, though no new blooms. It was blooming when I bought it. I think I paid around $17 for it, or something like that. 2 others I bought last year died. I think I was over watering.

As far as orchids go, I kill lots but it doesn't stop me.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yep, that's me, Celeste! LOL! I will have to be patient to see them bloom, though.

WHOOOO HOOOOO!!! You guys ROCK!!! GO SPRING GO!!! I raced outside to check on my snowdrops but alas they are still snowed in. I'm thinkin blowdryer. Cousin Nut you are so far ahead!!! Did you bubble wrap your garden? (Another idea I'm thinkin of) oooo you have daffs already ooooo

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL!!!!!! Nope, no bubble wrap here, Cousin Nut. You gotta remember that I'm in zone 6b and near the coast, so we're a bit milder here. Get that blow dryer out!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Still snow cover here. The blizzard is due to start today and continue until Friday.8-12 inches

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

We've been having rain in buckets all day here. Glad it's not snow. Feel bad for you, JoAnn. I hope we are done in my area for snow for this season. I want spring real bad!

Can't believe how much snow you got Allison!! Ge I can because of where you live, it's bound to hit your area sooner or later just like me. But I have had an extremely mild winter, the Southern part of Maine can't say the same. :(

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I just said to Randy yesterday... we are having your weather .. and you are having ours.. he asked if you wanted to trade .. just in case you missed it

:)

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

No thanks.....i'm kind of enjoying it. It will be another 20 years before i get another mild one like this!! ^_^

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I hope not.. but I hope not to have this winter again... EVER!!

Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

Yeah, not too much snow here. maybe an inch or two, but yesterday was really warm so it is sticking to all the trees. pretty, but dangerous.

ok, now I feel better to know you all are under snow. that's the way it should be! :p

you know I curse you because I'm jealous, right? this is my first winter where I'm really missing the growing season. so I'm even more jealous than usual

No idea of how much snow we have. Its still comming down.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Eevie, you're too funny!

No snow here. We got lots and lots of rain. I hope the snow stays away.

Went out and took several pics in the gardens today. I'll put together some collages and post them later. Can't wait to get working out there. Ground is too wet now.

Karen

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Okay, here is a Hamamelis collage. The red one is 'Diane', and the orangey/yellow one is a NOID with flowers about 1/4 the size of the ones on 'Diane'.

Wow--those witch hazels are gorgeous! Liked the orchids, too---the one I got at Booj's RU is still alive! Have my fingers crossed.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Yours are the same size trees as mine. Snow is too deep for me to make my weekly check. I dont think they have opened any further.
Love yours

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Marilyn and JoAnn. The NOID one is a much larger shrub. Been where it is for years. Here's a shot of it.

And one more. It's a very sprawly shrub. Must be at least 20' wide, and maybe 10' high.

i took a few pic of hazels the other day and all were out of focus - guess i need my reading glasses now to take pictures - getting old sucks!

very nice karen!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Bill. I can't get seem to get as good a focus as Victor gets. Victor, do you use a tripod for all your shots? I can't hold my camera steady enough. I need a good tripod. I want to get really sharp focus. Bill, I do take several shots sometimes of each thing to make sure I get decent focus. I just keep the good ones and delete the rest. I have to shoot without my glasses, as I'm far-sighted.

i have no problem with distance - finally broke down for reading glasses and it has just gotten worse which i guess is normal after giving the eyes a break - i will get some pics tomorrow - i hope:)

Nice pics of the witchazels. Love that collage, absolutely terrific. Nice to see signs of spring.
The snow was gone again this am and even though it was frosty and crunchy under foot I took a garden walk. There is going to be lots of clean up (soon I hope) but there are signs of life and little bits of green here and there, bulbs sending shoots too. The warmer days seem to be getting things moving a little with fits and stops for the snow and colder days and nights. This also means the perennial weeds have also been busy unfortunately. Weeding ,mulching and edging will be the first order of business after clean up as soon as the soil thaws and is dry enough for walking. Then the new bed extension and "yeah" planting of the new babies as soon as possible. I am so ready for spring.
