New 2010 Garden Photos

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have not used a tripod at all, Karen. Only for a few of the waterfall shots. None of my garden shots are with a tripod. But now that I just bought a nice one (carbon fiber), I will use it in the garden this year.

You must have a very steady hand, Victor. I can't seem to get my focus as sharp as yours. Also, when I'm shooting close-ups of white flowers, such as snowdrops, then my camera has a hard time focusing for some reason.

Karen

Yes, that can be tough. I will often switch to manual focus. Gotta control your breathing for those shots too!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Unfortunately I don't have manual focus on my camera. I do try and hold my breath while I'm taking the shot.

Try a different way. Take a deep breath, exhale and then shoot. I find that works better. No manual focus? Many p & s have it. Mine does.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'll have to check and see if mine does, Victor. I have not noticed but there are some features I have yet to find out about. I have not used the image stabilizer. That might be the best bet for the close-up shots. I'll try next time. I'll try your exhaling technique, too.

Yes - use the stabilizer.

looks like they are doing great JoAnn

I just had to keep the topic on track.
I am getting testy and mean. We are due for a warm week with rain NEXT week so maybe the snow will melt and my mood will change

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Know what you mean JoAnn. Hang in there, every day we get a little closer. All these cloudy days are not helpful when it comes to mood. Even if there is snow on the ground and cold outside, at least a little sunshine can lift my mood to tolerable. One day at a time then suddenly we will be doing the morning rounds coffee in hand, glorious.

Thomaston, CT

The temps here at the end of this week should be in mid-40s---I can see some plants where the snow has melted, but not too much---our side garage door is too hard to open due to the piled snow.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The snow is heavy too. I have been shoveling paths for the cats. They need to go outside before they drive me nuts. Jerry already knocked over the Valentines flowers SIL bought DD.

i was trying to show the lichen on the rocks:)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Mine look like that. No orange peal bloom stage yet.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Great witch hazels, Bill! I got a crick in my neck looking at the first one. LOL!

JoAnn, spring is coming, and your mood will improve. Hang in there. I was really depressed there for awhile, at least a week or more. Winter blahs, as well as other things. I've snapped out of it, though, and my mood has improved. Yours will too. I know what you're going through, and I feel for you.

Victor, I tried my image stabilizer, but I can't set the exposure I want when I use it. That really bites. I've gotten so good at setting the exposure in-camera that I don't have to fix them later on the computer, and I don't like to have to start doing that. My camera's automatic meter doesn't always get a good exposure.

That reminds me I want to learn landscape photo on my Coolpix

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, that really does bite, Karen. Don't see why they would do that.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sorry - that was a witch hazel flying off on a broom

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Started the panorama photo thing.
Battery exhausted
Of course.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL! Funny, Bill.

Oh dear! My airedale is an awful digger---plants have disappeared from my gardens due to his huge bathtubs. I wonder if the witch hazel tastes good. I like the taste of black birch.

Oh nice . Have some ragged green foliage left over from fall but nothing as exciting as that on mine yet. I will be checking things out more closely this weekend if the weather is what they are promising.

South Hamilton, MA

A spider daylily & 2nd batch of snowdrops have deciced to appear. They are up next to the house, probably why.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I have a bunch of snowdrops now. Still waiting for crocus.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Great shots of "our" witch Hazel. Mine are in bloom too, the ones that the dogs didn't ruin. They liked to chew off the branches. grrrrrrrrrrr. The deer didn't do it or the rabbits, but my dear dogs. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. I bet they're already breaking ground, Allison.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

:(

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's a good thing! I bet you'll see them soon - maybe this weekend.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I think there is going to be some warm rain next week. That should clear up some of the snow.
Yes I did figure out how to use my Panorama Maker. This summer should be a blast.
