Dee
I usually buy a bunch of Amaryllis when they mark them down, to $1.00 each, the one Blooming that's blooming is one of the older bulbs, that I have had for a couple of years
Hi Sylvia
it's good to see you
Elizabeth
Superspot Blooming
I'm technology challenged big time. However for the first brug celebration I must learn how. My DD and DS will be at my home on Saturday perhaps they will help me learn how to do this.
Sylvia
Sylvia
I can't wait to see your Brug Bloomimg
Elizabeth
Yippee, it says that after 12 to 15 weeks of chilling, that I can plant my bulbs, and get blooms...so, in another couple weeks, I can do that.
I can't wait to see your brug blooming,Sylvia
Dee
here comes more snow, it has started back up again, I am looking out the window, my chair is by the register, so I can stay warm, I hope you are also
Elizabeth
Elzabeth, it is snowing here too.Your computer area sounds exactly like mine, by the windows, and the register..lol
Elizabeth, when you redo your yard this year, will you be digging new beds, or using the ones you already have and moving things around. I was just wondering if you had a tiller available. I don't know what I would do without ours.
Dee
Dee
I have a neat shovel, so I dig all the garden up, I wish I had one of those mantis tillers, I have been waiting for them to go on sale, it would make it easier, I will be moving the Brugs around to get the best look, I have too buy cow manure
just as soon as I can do the soil, I hope when this snow storm is done we're through with cold weather
Elizabeth
Dee, I don't see why you can't use the chamomile tea as a preventative, but better check its pH. I didn't think of it til now. It might help explain the chlorosis my seedlings had last year.
Elizabeth, I guess gardeners think alike. I have my computer by a window as well. However, here in Texas cooling is more important than heating so the heating/cooling vents are on the ceiling. So when I can't stand the cold radiating in from the window, I say good-bye to my computer and snuggle under an afghan with my cats and read, watch TV or knit.
Sylvia, that's good news about your Brug's bud. In a few weeks you should be seeing a bloom.
Veronica
I hope we're done too, Elizabeth.I'm hoping that we will be able to get a couple more scoops of aged manure again this year.If not, I will be buying bags..I don't think anything conditions the soil, like manure! I will be creating beds along 2 sides of the fence this year, for the brugs. If I run out of room there, I will have to start pulling perennials out, which is fine by me...lol.
Dee
Will do, Veronica.Like I said before, I am new to growing brug seeds, and all help is appreciated.
Dee
Veronica
Great minds think alike, I also have a cat, I like to snuggle up under my blankets, I have two on my bed, I have this window right behind my bed, I can't wait to get it replaced, it sooo cold, I think the seal is Broken, it's an older replacement window not a very good one, this is an older house, we're updating as we can afford it,
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, I'm thinking about getting Dorthea.Do you have that one?
Dee
Dee
I do have that one, it's a good one, you'll like it, I don't remember if it was Dorthea or Dola, that Bloomed the darkest Pink, but I remember both grew really well, are there any others that you're thinking about, I have too make out a new list, some of my new one's were smaller when the winter started, some doesn't look really well
Elizabeth
I am thinking about getting a few, but I haven't decided which ones yet.I will let you know , before I make any final decisions.I have a Dola cutting doing well, that I swapped for last fall. The Angel's Swingtime are continuing to grow, and get a few more leaves, but they sure have been slow.I need to update my list too, as I lost some of my cuttings over the winter.
Dee
great photos! the sun came out today.. it got up to 29 yay!
Do any of you know of a brug named Catolina? It's a double white. I can't find any info on it
Dee
Maybe you mean Catalonia. It's one of Mike Usina's crosses. The pod parent is Double White, but the pollen parent is unknown. The color is supposed to be white/gold and registered in 2006. I may have it, but I won't know until the 3 plants bloom.
I like to root cuttings on the kitchen table because I've got the perfect light in that corner of the kitche. I bought cuttings from 6 different Brugs and had them in separate jars with the label under each jar. My DH decided to be helpful and set the table. He picked up the six jars, moved them to the sideboard, but left the labels on the table. I had to use numbers to label them until they bloomed and I could label them properly. What I have is either Casacolacreek or Catalonia. You can see a photo of Catalonia on this link. It's difficult to tell what the bloom looks like because this is the only photo of Catalonia I've seen.

Edited to say I found another photo. It may not pop out since the e-bay auction is over. Casacolacreek is the seller. When I posted questions about him, I was told he is a reliable seller.

If it doesn't show up, the bloom appears to a shredded double, but described as "smashed paper looking"

Sent you a D mail, Veronica.
Dee
Good morning, Dee how much snow did you get, we have 7" and if finnaly stopped snowing, everything is at a standstill, all schools are closed.
I have been upset last couple of days, I had 8 cuttings in water, I change the water every third day, but the last two times I found the cuttings getting soft, I don't know why, they are in my plant room that have windows all around, the temp is 74 all the time, I suspect they may have gotten too cold when they were sent to me in Dec. although it was not near as cold then.
Guess I will have to wait till spring and try again.
Doris
Morning Doris, we got about 6 inches the best I can tell, and all is at a standstill, here, too.
I'm sorry to hear that you lost your cuttings. I had three big cuttings in water for a couple months changing then them every other day, and I noticed that one began getting rot on top, so I cut it and dusted the cut with comet (works with crown rot on iris...lol), and potted them up.I hope they make it ok.I know that it's upsetting to loose cuttings, but try not to fret over them, Doris.I should have cuttings of several doubles, that I can send to you this summer, if I don't kill them, trying to keep the aphids at bay...lol Did you loose Tiara and Sweetheart, last summer. How about Autumn Treasure. Those are 3 that I know that you sent me cuttings of, that I should be able to replace for you, if you'd like
Dee
Good morning all
Dee
looking out at my DH's Jeep, it looks like we got a total of 1ft from monday night till now, yes I will post a pic, it would be georgous if it were just on the lawn & not on the street, my GD is loving this, they closed her school again today
if anyone needs a few cutiing, I can help out this summer
Doris
I may not have what you've lost, but I have different ones, I am sorry you're having a problem with your clippings
Veronica
men are sooo helpful aren't they, mine mowed down some of my nice bushes, he's not allowed to touch the mower
Elizabeth
Brrrr.... we suppose to get it Friday.
Charleen
Elizabeth, looks like you got a lot more than us! We have some bad spots from the winds...snow drifts.I know your GD is as happy as my GK's are to be outta school. My DH is getting cabin fever and wants to get out, but I'm not sure that I do..lol
Thanks, Veronica, for the links and info.Yes, husbands can be so helpful.I don't know how many plants my DH has weedwacked off. I do all the mowing, but he does the weedeating. There is one area in our yard that I do not have a border around, and I weed eat that area..lol
Elizabeth...sending you a Dmail.
Dee
Dee I no longer have Sweatheart or Tiar but I do have Autum Treasure and have a start of Autum treasure and Golden lady that I pollinated myself, so I hope she continues to grow good.
Doris
Charleen, I hope that you don't get as much as we all got..lol...Stay warm, girl.
Doris, I will send you cuttings of Sweatheart and Tiara, as soon as they get big enough.Golden Lady too, if you want.I forgot about that one.
Charleen, when will your spring bulbs/flowers start popping thru the ground?
Dee
I have some Daffodils coming up thru the ground but not blooming yet.
It won't be long. It's not spring til the dogwoods and redbuds bloom. then It is getting Spring.
Hey, Dee. Are you buried too? I saw Elizabeth is. I'm not looking forward to it.
Dee, I may have between 20-30 plants if they all make it. i sure hope most of them do.
Charleen
Dee that would be great, I don't need Golden Lady though as I have three of her. I am looking for the darkest Pink I can find, any idea which one I should get?
Doris
Doris
Mountain Magic, & SuperSpot are the darkest pink I think, I am sure there are more, I also have Golden Lady 2 big ones
Elizabeth
Yes, Charleen, we are buried too, but I don't think we got as much as Elizabeth. I bet you will have a lot more brugs, by the time Elizabeth gets done sending you cuttings, then when mine get further along, I'm sure I will have some that you gotta have...lol...We gotta have them all, don't we?
Doris are you only looking for doubles? I'll let you know as soon as I get cuttings.
Dee
Oh my gosh, Elizabeth. Thanks for posting those...now I can breathe! Everything looks so healthy and happy!
Dee
Dee
those are just under just regular lights, in the back room there are grow bulbs, that's where Elizabeth is
Thank you, I am glad you like them
Elizabeth
I'll get some pics of mine this evening, after supper. I just use regular florescent lights, but they work, and the price is right..lol
Your basement is wonderful, Elizabeth.
Dee
Dee
Thank you, I'll be glad too see your Pic's, the next day or too, I'll post some more of my basement, I am sooo glad
my DH gives me the whole basement, for my plants, he gives me half the Garage, he tried too give me a 1/3 but
I edged my stuff over, as soon as it gets warm enough I will be cleaning it out, it would be nice too park his jeep in there
esp. when it get cold, maybe the city plow would clean the curb
Elizabeth
Isn't it nice to go into the basment where all your flowers are, Elizabeth , with all that snow on the ground outside. You almost have Spring now. It is better than just looking out at the snow. i went and helped DH Get the trailer out to go get hay for longears tomarrow. Let me tell you, I was ready to come back in, at least it wasn't raining. Cold is bad enough....
Charleen
Charlene
it is nice, thank goodness, I have that basement, at some point I might have to help shovel snow, off the curb, so my DH has a place too park& be able too get in & out, we are suppose to have more snow at the beginning of next week
so either I buy salt or shovel, last February, I had to break ice under the snow, I hope you don't have too be out in the weather too much, I sure hope you don't get what we have here
Elizabeth
Charleen, I just wanted to say how much I like it.There are so many people enjoying it. I have a hard time jumping around to keep up..lol I just have to play more on the computer now...lol
Dee
