Elizabeth that is so pretty! I can't wait to get everything outside. Going up and down the stairs gives god excersize, but it gets tedius after awhile. I wish I had blooms again. Mine were in November. Then, I cut them all back and trimmed the :trees"
I didn'tknow you were missing your kitty, I am glad she has come home for you. My son and daughters all three have a cat and I know they would just go crazy if they went missing.
Hi Dee, I am glad you posted, have you had a blood check for priloric Bacteria? it is a bug that makes your tummy hurt no matter what you do. I suffered for 20 years and it was found by a heart doctor of all people. he gave me some medicine and my tummy has been fine since then and that was in 2000. I suffer from IBS when I am stressed. That also makes the tummy hurt real bad. I hoe you just have the flu bug, at least it won't stay with you.
Hi Doris, I bet you are ready for some blooms!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Good morning all, The sun is shinning so bright it hurts my eyes to look outside because there is a glare from the snow and ice,but if I don't look outside it looks great shinning on my plants, and I can pretend it is spring.
All the pictures are so great gives us Northerners a breath of Spring air, also makes me start looking for more brugs, someone put tape over my mouth *LOL*

Snow blindness, Doris. That is what you are suffering from.
You need a brug to cure it.
Does this help??/

Good morning, my cat was missing for 2 months, I think someone took her, then decided they didn't really want a cat,
she just showed back up, I looked for everywhere, now she is my constant companion, last night I was potting up the clippings, that I got, she was racing me from one side of the basement to the other side
Doris
it was 4 degrees this morning, the sun is out now, but it's still cold, I wish you had a Brug Blooming also, that is Elizabeth up there, this summer it was pure white, now that it's in the basement it has some color too it

I'll get them all done one of these days. Most are looking great, a few have curled leaves, I pitched a couple more that were dried up, and found some aphids, and sprayed all the little darlings. Dang critters!!!
The weather forcast for us has changed to 6 inches or more, starting tuesday. It's a big one Elizabeth...as Fred Sanford used to say..lol
Elizabeth is beautiful!
Doris, when mine start leaping this Spring, I will be glad to share any that I have with you.You sent me my very first cuttings.I think all of the ones that you shared, but Star Dancer are thriving. It rotted, before rooting :o( I was just so upset...It was the first one that I ever lost, and I think that it is a very cool Brug! I added lots of other cutting, and will send you a list come Spring.

And I got Mary Usina as the hybridizer from this site:
http://www.abads.org/abads/Registry/namelist/

Both Brugmansia associations have registered Brug lists. I use this one because it is so easy to use, but now that abads is all but gone, more cultivars are being registered with www.brugmansia.us. I just wish their registered list was more user friendly.

Veronica
that's probably why it is Mary K, isn't that Mike's wife, thanks for posting the link

Elizabeth

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

charleen is that an older picture of is it good weather where you live. I didn't think so as I remember. It is freezing here again. How cold is it now where you live. Here it is 18 F right now at night. Tomorrow there is going to be a lots of snow they say. I hope not. We haven't had so much snow in eighteen years!
I already started sowing seeds. Peppers, tomatoes and paprika's.
I will make a picture of them tomorrow.

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Charleen, it looks like a beautiful plant.I don't think they are hardy here. Thanks, for the info Elizaberth, and Veronica.
Is everyone all stocked up and ready for a blizzard? Yuck Well, all you northerners, and Jori...lol
Dee

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

A front is going through and the temperatures are supposed to drop into the 30s at night and stay in the high 40s. The temperature right now is 50ºF because it's raining cats and dogs. Thankfully, the thunder and lightening was very light. The rain will continue for the rest of the week. We've had a very wet winter so far. I've sown a number of Brug seeds and need to get some vegetable seeds started, but will have to wait until the Brug seeds are up so I can put the seedlings in the greenhouse.

I still remember the -5º temperatures we used to get and all the snow. We had snow on our first Thanksgiving in Ohio.

Hamilton, OH

Veronica
I will take rain over snow anytime, I know that you're glad to be there, your Spring should be pretty soon, I can't wait too see your baby Brugs, I planted about 75 seeds, in my mini GH, with a heatmatt, about 20 of them had white mold on them I tossed them, I remember snow on Thanksgiving, when do you put your Brugs in the ground? here we have to wait to close to Mothers day, then it's pretty safe too put them out

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Yeah, I'll take the rain anyday too. While I am used to the snow, what I will never get used to are the tornados in IN. Growing up in Ohio, we had an occassional tornado touch down, but the tornados here, scare the bejeebers outta me.Why anyone in IN would build a house without a basement is beyond me..lol
I have a few brug seeds going but not nearly as many as you Elizabeth. I just plain ran outta room. Here's a pic of my biggest seedling. It is in a 2 liter bottle.I just can't believe how fast they grow.

Wow, Dee. When did you get your seeds started?

Elizabeth, the average last frost date is the first week of March, but last year we had 2 late hard freezes, one in late March and the other in early April. I usually leave the Brugs in their pots because until recently I didn't have much shade. Leaving them in their pots allowed me to crowd the pots together to take advantage of what little afternoon shade I had. I did place the pots directly on the ground and allowed the roots to grow out the drain holes. You could tell when that happened because they would suddenly shoot up. I did that just once. Now I place the pots on cement pavers. One of the most invasive grasses in the world is growing in our pastures — Bermuda grass. It's great for pastures. It's deep rooted and pops back up quickly after a freeze or a drought, but it's the bane of any gardener. It grows up into anything and is almost impossible to kill. If it grows up the drain holes of a Brug pot, I have to remove all the soil and hand pick all the grass roots out or the grass will eventually kill its competitor.

This year will be different. I'll have plenty of afternoon shade for my Brugs and the good thing is that Bermuda doesn't grow in shade. I hope to start getting some of my Brugs into the ground in mid-March.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Nice seedlig Dee.. I am so happy for you! Don't ya just love those plastic bottles!
Veronica, my hubby loves the bermuda, I hate it.. good for grazing, bad for flower beds.. but you know that already.
going down to 10 degrees tonight.. brrr!

Veronica, I only have two seedlings that big. I started those in Nov.,when I was bored and had to have something growing..lol.It was my first time, starting brug seeds. And, I have enjoyed watching them, so much!
I know you will be happy to see Spring come, and get your brugs in the ground.Hope you take lots of pics, so we can enjoy your early Spring, too.
Thanks, Debra. Yes, I love those two liter bottles. Now that I am growing brugs, they have become my new gallon pots....well, close enough..lol I love being able to see the roots.
Elizabeth, I had to toss some, with white mold also.
Doris, I hope you check in today and let us know, how you're doing with this latest snowstorm.
Dee

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Good afternoon all
Dee, nice seedling, looks so healthy

Veronica
I know you'll be glad too get your Brugs in the ground, I have some extra Black flower pots, that I am going to sink in the ground, I always plant mine in the ground, there a couple that I don't want too get much bigger, I don't want to dig up a huge 7ft tree
it's been snowing here from 1 am, & it's still snowing, my GD didn't have too go to school, it's suppose to snow all night into tommorrow,

Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Elizabeth.
Sounds like it(the snow) is hitting us at the same time, this time around....Dee

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Dee,
For seeds that you really don't want to lose, try brewing concentrated chamomile tea. It's a natural fungicide. Spray the cooled solution on the seedling and the starting media. I tried it on some arborea seeds that had developed that white mold. It worked, although I had to repeat it. I think I used 8 to 10 tea bags to a quart of water and boiled the bags about 15 minutes.

Here's a photo of last January's seedlings in community pots. I bought a seed starting kit that consisted of these square containers and coir disks. Even though I sterilized the coir, I had trouble with mold in all the containers. I managed to get a large number of seedlings to grow despite having to fight the mold by spraying with chamomile tea. The little white flecks on the coir is the mold. Another problem I had with this growing media was chlorosis. This year I went back to using Park's sponges. I also have rockwool.

Veronica
I used the peat disc, the whole seed was white & dried up, when you tried too rub it off, it just crumbled, that sounds like a good idea about the Tea, I'll have to try that, your seedlings look healthy

Dee
we are getting hit at the same time, did your snow stop? it stopped here about a half hour ago, they said on the news it was suppose to snow all day & into tommorrow, I would be glad if it was
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, yes, our snow stopped a little while ago, but we are due for second bout to start up, any time now...they are saying with the wind tomorrow, that it will be blizzard conditions.Keep those pics coming!
Veronica, I will try the chamomile tea.sounds great! Can it be used as a preventative, or do you use it only if you already have the mold?

Thanks, for the pics Elizabeth! I think Elizabeth is a beautiful brug! Aren't amaryllis wonderful bulbs? Such big bright blooms! I still have some bags of daffodils in the fridge.I use one crisper drawer for nothing but seeds, bulbs etc.I got them on clearance after the ground was too frozen to plant.I'm gonna have to do some googling and see if I can pot them up and get blooms. I need to see how long of a cold period they need.
Dee

Hemet, CA(Zone 9b)

Good afternoon ladies..........I was out of town for a couple of days and had a wonderful suprise when we got home last evening. I went to check my NOID which I thought was about to bloom from the center and found a 5 inch bud hanging down from the center where the small buds have formed. Guess it will be sooner rather than later when I get my first flower. Ypee, skippy!
Thanks for being a sounding board for my excitement.
Sylvia

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Sylvia, that's great.Isn't it exciting when you see that first bloom? Please post pics, if and when you can.
