Superspot Blooming
Dear "brug ladies"..............Thank you all for the warm welcome. I encountered my first brug some 20+ years in the garden next to my aunts house about 50 miles from where I now live. Did not know what it was but it sure captivated me. Through the years I never forgot that plant. Looked at them at nursuries, cost too much and afraid it would die on me. Well finally after all the insuing years my gardening dreams are finally coming true. The brug about to bloom is definitly the top dream happening now. It's perfect timing as I recently retired and now have time for the really fun stuff.

They are an unusal plant to grow and I love it.
Charleen
Sylvia,, what Charleen said is true for me.. finding my first brug and Daves in same year... ( I can't say I am retired, but wish I was)
Debra
It was a truelly changing moment in my life. Now I want them all.
All restrictions need not apply.....hehehe
Charleen
Dear ladies..................Just dropping in to say I'm following you in more ways than one. BTW....How long does it take for the tight bud to bloom? Can you "feel" my eagerness?
Sylvia
Sylvia
it should be all the way open tommorrow, we are sooo glad to have you here, I am sooo ready for Spring, but nature has a different idea right now, we are suppose to get 6 inches of snow, from tonight until tommorrow
Elizabeth

Sylvia
P.S. My favorite daughter ( only daughter, turning 31 this month) is Elizabeth Ann
Charleen
you know I want to see Pic's always, they are really pretty, I love both of them, Thank you for sharing
Elizabeth
Charleen
Girl you really take good Pic's, looks like I am right there, very pretty, I bet you enjoyed it, I love the flower shows
Elizabeth
me too! wow I love that lilly..... Sylvia, I know how you feel, i felt the same way, and I did go out every three hours just to check on it for about a week. I had to cut mine down before it bloomed and it still bloomed inside. that was summer before last. last year I had about 13 plants, and I still felt the same way. I do not have a greenhouse and it is so cold and wintry here. I bet you are just so very excited, like a love affair I think.
Charleen, I love those pitcher plants. I am going to get me one. I don't know if CPs are making it or not. theymight be dormant. they are in the basement garden tub. I have been saving snow in tubs for them. I pour the water into a milk jug and thats what I use.
Elizabeth, your brugs are gorgeous. I might have to ask for another NOL, I checked on her and she looks okay from the top, but she pulled right out when I tugged her, all gone on the bottom. I am just heart broken. My banan tree has leaves turning brown. I am just so sick. that is a plant given to me by a dg memeber. wish I knew what was wrong.
What beautiful pics. Charleen I am going to have to read up on the pitcher plant. I think they are soo cool.Might have to get me one of those.
Elizabeth, we got the big snow too...sorta puts a damper on day dreams of Spring...lol..
I am getting ready to set up the other lights and start the petunias...maybe this evening.
Dee
Dee we also had heavy snowfall since yesterday and more on the way, I was already dreaming of my Bugs, outside and blooming. blaaaaaa
Doris
Good Morning Ladies
Slvia, your DD, has a good name my name is also Elizabeth ann, that's neat that we have the same name, I will have to give you a clipping of Elizabeth, this summer, well the weather man was right, we got the 6 inches of snow, it's really no surprize, last year at this time we had a total of 2 ft, but my basement looks like Spring, as Debra's does
Debra, I will give you another NOL, as soon as the weather is warm enough
Elizabeth
Really cool Pitcher plant Charleen!
Thanks for posting it!
Karen
Elizabeth, I just brought all mine up from the basement, makes me think that at least spring is not far off, I am anxiouse to see some blooms, I get restless about this time of year.
Doris
Hi Karen, sooo glad you dropped in , are you snowed in today? we got 6inches last night
Doris
are you adding any fertalizer? to get them to wake up, I have but just a half Tbs per 2 gals of water, it's sooo hard not to be anxious, we just love these beauty's, the wait too get that first Bloom, is really hard, but 60 more days, it should be getting warmer
Elizabeth
Yes I have but like you it is at a weaker rate, at least for the first month.
Are we n the same Zone? Your 6 inches of snow is coming here this weekend. Bleah.
So now I am fighting Fungus Gnats again. Seems I get them under control and then a new batch hatches. Any ideas, Elizabeth? I found two small sweat bees flying aroun down there last night. Found three or four teeny tiny snails under some pots. found three small slugs when re-potting some EEs'. Egads.
Debra
Temp wise, I think our zone is the same, I put my Brugs in the ground then end of April, then I keep my sheets ready, our frost date is pretty much Mother's day, about the Gnats, do you have play sand, you can put that on top of the soil, & those sticky traps works also, the slugs, I have found a few, I just drown them in salt water, I spend a lot of time, this time of year, I start waking up my big Brugs
Elizabeth
Debra...disolve some of the doughnut shaped mosquito dunks in the water.. then water the plants.. then repeat..later..
Thanks, Gordon. did that just the other day when filling the twelve gallons. I have fly ribbons all over the place, need to replace them again, going to do that today. I just bought fine sand last week, it is still in the trunk of my car .. it's really cold outside right now. *shiver*
I fed the big brug trees ( one of them came from a seed Gordon sent..) yesterday. They are all happy. I put a few in the ground, but usually wait until May to do that. just a few of the cuttings I recieved have not made it this trading season. Naughty Nick and Nol and a few others.B suaves are awsome, B. arboreas are getting there. X candida is struggling.
Should I put seedlings into the ground this year? This is a new batch I grew of some crosses.
She is beautiful! Very delicate looking!
Debra
I put all mine in the ground, the end of April, the end of march I will be heating my GH, I can put a lot of my big Brug trees out there, so I won't have much to drag up from the Basement, a lot of them are starting big leaves on them, I bet yours are too
Elizabeth
So, we can start feeding and watering the brugs now? It won't hurt them?? I have leaves on a few of them. Was afraid to.
Hello, You all, glad you enjoyed the pics/ It was a nice flower show, Loved the bloom, Elizabeth.
Charleen
Charleen
Thank you, it is darker than it Bloomed outside for some reason, I really like this color on it, I am just glad to see any Blooms, you can use fertilizer, just dilute it, it's time for them to wake up, you can put yours outside a lot sooner than I can, aren't you a month earlier than we are?
Elizabeth
Yes, I guess, but I'm not one to push it, for I don't want my babies to freeze. I know I am ready, DH said in week or so another cold blast is supposed hit here. I'll wait. Want to see some life in them. One of my Baobab trees still has leaves on it, usuallly by now they are all fallen off. so it is hanging and the Brugs back there still feel cool, so they are still alve. Haven't watered them at all.
charleen
Charleen
you're probably better off not too push it, last year, I had too get all my sheets out too cover them, we had a frost, so I had them all covered, then I had all those sheets too wash, I think I have always pushed the seasons, I had a bunch of plants out, then I had too drag them back in, but now I have the GH, so that makes it earsier for me
Elizabeth
That would be heaven, to have a GH.
Charleen
Charleen
I am very Lucky, I got it at the right price, & DH loves plants as much as I do, he bought me a heater for it, my DD took it for her room, since I don't heat it for the winter, I just use it too extend the seasons, our winters can get really cold
I would be afraid something would go wrong
Elizabeth
