JoAnn I have paniculata 'Pinky Winky' too but have not pruned it yet either. It does bloom on new wood so you can wack down if you want to keep it a certain size. Here is some info on pruning all types of hydrangea. http://www.hydrangeashydrangeas.com/pruning.html
Just scroll down to method two.
Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day - Part 7
Thanks ngam
Flowerjen Why my goodness golly that must have been the infamous Bradford Pear tree.
We have them in this hood and after 20 years they are falling apart.
One nearly killed a couple sitting on their lawn.It just split in half and they were under it.
They hears it going and jumped just in time.
Oh gosh, glad I wasn't near mine when it went down
I have Pinky Winky in the nursery. They do not need to be pruned, but you can. Your choice. The tend to have some lax new growth, as do most paniculatas, so if it develops a weeping or sprawling habit, you can stake the limbs up for a year till they harden in position.
Yes, those pears can be dangerous.
Very prettiful!
pretty rose shot!!!.. card worthy for sure!
Such pretty photos. Love your red hydrangea, WC, and that daylily and yarrow look wonderful together, Victor. The rose is ideal for a card, debilu.
We have a problem Bradford Pear as well. A thing of beauty is not always a joy forever.
Ditto, beautiful pics all. WC, that is the reddest hydrangea I have ever seen. Very handsome!
Pretty rose!
Thank you Venu, the predominant spectrum of a setting sun is red, it compliments this hydrang along with the contrast from the shade. Photography is all about light... ☺
That is just gorgeous Allison. What great color
hope it comes back.. LOL
I really think it takes a few years to establish a nice bunch.
After that I have to weed them out
we shall see.. the soil over where that one is.. is not the best.. but I put a bunch of newspaper & coffee grounds in the area to try and attract some worms to help
They grow in the worst places. Annual poppies are the worst to try to controle. You just have to let them do their thing.
I found them in the asphalt driveway at my old house.
They dont like transplanting either.
well then it might be a good spot... my grandmother used to have pansies and petunias popping up in the cracks of the sidewalk in front of her house.. I used to yell at my friends if they stepped on them
You go girl.
No one stepped on my grandmothers garden, they lived in the country.
She did get shot at once during deer season.
oh no... that's not good... she was ok I take it?
Yes,that was back in the early 50's. My grandfather had the land posted and everything.
have to love an irresponsible hunter... sheesh
Pretty rose Deb. Nice soft colors.
'Black Barlow' keeps going on and off my list for the last order. JoAnn does it have enough purple tone to it to make it not just a dark color, if you know what I mean?
I am definitely loving that poppy, I hope it returns for you and for us to share more pics this spring.
Luvs the peachy color of that begonia is very nice. I think I am partial to those in flowers with ruffly petals.
That rose goes really nicely with the JM Bill. Do you know the name? Or is it Bob III.
Here's another dark one to go with JoAnn's choice 'Bela Lugosi'.
Too slow again. Victor posted a beauty while I was typing. That is a wonderfully colored DL. Bob has been taken so is that Frank and son?
the jm is crimson queen and the rose is cherry red knock out, a rambler that stays low and will come back if it dies back - it hasn't though, the only die back is my trimming and it has completely covered a really huge good looking rock that can't be seen easily.
Thanks, Pat. I think the dark one is Indian Giver. Trying to remember the other. Celeste!!
Pandora's Box, I think.
the dl's do look nice
Bela Lugosi would do well with Black Barlow. The Barlow is just like the Black Iris we have, not completely black and looks great with bright blues and soft lavanders as those are the reflections the blacks give off.
Thanks JoAnn I think you have pushed me over the edge. Okay so one foot was really off already. That Bluestone discount will help out I think.
Our 20th is next year. 'Doom'??
That is so wrong, Victor! lol
