pretty color!!
Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day - Part 7
That is beautiful Pirl. I like how the light is hitting those DL in just the right spots, pretty.
Thanks, Pat. I also love how the light plays with the plants.
Another great DL pic Pirl
Thanks ngam
You are right Pirl that's Black Beauty and Grand Cru. I offed my Strawberries and Cream because I needed more yellow lilies.
It will cost more but as my X aunt-in-law used to say"It costs so little more to go first class"
JoAnn you were right about the gallery blue.. I just realized GC keeps your old orders on file in your account... I knew that's where they came from.. and yes that was it... you are good!!!
So many beautiful flowers - just got done checking the previous thread before this one. I can't even decide which are my favorites. It gets me all inspired for spring activities in my garden, but then I saw the hammock shot and it reminded me where I spend most of my time. Can it be considered gardening if you are dreaming about the grand garden scheme rather than down in the dirt creating it? You guys also have the best sense of humor. I love the bantering back and forth on these threads. Here is a rose pic for today...
I planted Gallery Blue last summer, from GC.
My cousin in Maine sends me pics of the fields of wild blue lupine every year just to get my goat. They are to die for
that one was planted in 2007
I can just imagine the heat I could feel from the sun with that photo Victor.. lovely colors
Nice combo Victor, love those dark stems on the echie. I can't wait to see them and DLs again.
Thanks. The echie is After Midnight. Forgot the DL.
Wonderful combo!
I love the persian colors, magentas and peaches and merigolds and lavanders and purples.
Thats a wonderful combo Victor
Thanks, ladies. Jo - you just prodded my memory. I think the DL is Persian Market.
I do what I can. teehee
great picture Bill.
We need roses here but DD wont deal with more than the few we have and I am not good at pruning.
thx joann - we do not have many roses here - have lost to many to count - just a few of the hardy never and die variety - the one shown is Royal Bonica
I guess thats why DD wont plant any. Also the japbeetle problem.
I spray enough for deer and redlily beetle. It takes hours to cover the whole garden. Sometimes I do it th 2 days.
Polly, yes that's the book, lots of info and I like her writing, but time does flyyy. That book was published in 1992, my wife gave it to me when we were on a trip to Rehobeth beach in 1994. Many people she writes about have passed away and there is a whole new generation of hybridizers, only a few I read about as I just keep raising my own from seed-less expensive and more fun for me, out the backdoor bare footed every morning all summer to see whats blooming (sometimes at night to check the nocturnals). Aspenhill------dreaming about the grand scheme had better be gardening as I have been doing it for thirty years here, from planning a straight East-West axis along the house to the wood path, to planning a picket fence that was never built to planing a border that turned into a jungle of flopping dahlias smothering the foxglove to the last years thinking my wife would like some kind of labyrinth to pray in (Why??) Well the axis is a curving series of esses a foot wide from my bare feet, infested with snakes(really- you step on one or two every day and I call the four foot milk snake, Snively ) and I tried a couple of potted box woods where I want a fence and they are peeking out of the snow right now. Maybe in the Spring I'll plant them there (or somewhere). I haven't a clue where I would put a labyrinth or how to build one so I do not mention this idea to Herself . Well, enough, I will not post a photo as I find I took none of anything except daylillies. I may take a picture of the house, try that paint thingy on the computer and draw all sorts of stuff I'll never actually do!! -----Weedy
A lot of the older daylilies are nocturnals, weedyseedy, and I sneak out at night to look at them too. My bed for the daylilies is about 500 feet from the house, though, no lighting out there, and we have a lot of coyotes around. I'm not really afraid of them, but they can be spooky, slinking around.
Did you know that a DEC officer came to our road and picked up a dead coyote, and they took it to Cornell to do DNA, and found it was a coyote/ grey wolf cross. I always thought they were crossed with dogs, but I know they are huge here. But I'm a little more leery now.
MyFG's were so small last year. I hope they come back and are looking like that.
looking good Jen!
Pretty rose Bill. And you are right we do pretty much have everything that makes growing roses difficult, between all the bugs and diseases, specially if you don't like to spray a lot of chems.
Coyotes here too among other things. I do not like going out after dark because you can hear "things" walking and scurrying around in the leaves out in the woods, some sound very large too.
Pretty foxglove, never met one I didn't like and that is a beauty Jen.
Thanks to Allison, that was one of hers ^_^
yours grew better than mine.. must be your touch this time!
Gorgeous!
Thanks Pirl!
nice one Ronnie
I can just smell it!!!!!!
no kidding!!!
Love those
I brought the whole container in ... so far so good.. hopefully I can make cuttings and have some to share!!!
