High tide came in and proved to be more than the already swollen river wanted to handle yesterday.
The river rose and the ice jammed up more than a mile long and flooding began.
Flood waters upstream of the ice jam backed up , flooding streets, parking lots and the basements of numerous buildings next to the river in 2 cities.
I knew it was going to get bad...glad I didn't havre to go to town!

Snowing pretty heavily the past hour or so. Lots of accidents. Cars being diverted past my court.
29.
25° Sun is out but clouding up. Better do our food shopping this morning.
25 here too
Saw about 10 flakes.
Cloudy 31 high of 40 showers later
Overcast today. Temp is only 30 degrees now. Wind shifted to the SW. Could get gusty this afternoon as a front goes through the area. Also could have rain/snow showers. High around 40. Much, much colder tomorrow.
22 and snowing hard. Hope it tapers off soon.
snowing here too - just back from jogging, kinda nice with the snow
We are at 42*F and rising, beautiful sun, but a little windy. Ric
Sun is out now 45 but windy
Nantucket today....it was a perfect day to finish up, finally, our bulb planting. We had a late arriving sale box of goodies and an early freeze, so today was the first day that we could plant since mid Dec. So the last 350 went into the ground, mostly narcissus. Can't wait until they start the spring show. We do have snowdrops up. Yippee.

We have a wind advisory from now until 5am tomorrow. Our little snow shower has ended for now and has put a fresh coat of white over everything but not more than a dusting. Temp just under freezing at 31 and the wind is coming from the SW and is still very light.
Very windy here too.
good to hear he is back at work sherrie!
can't believe it is that warm that you were able to plant bulbs patti.
Glad to hear he's back at work Sherrie but not driving in this! It's snowing here too, since about 2 this afternoon but the wind is not too bad here yet.......
No snow here yet, but had some light rain. We have wind advisory here too until 5AM Expecting gust to 50 out of the west and some snow. Now it is 34*. Patti
Good news, Sherrie!
Major squall here right now!
Did you get 'E' the new 4 wheel drive yet Victor??!!
No! Luckily she is working closer today. Hopefully this will be over before she leaves.
Me too, I know she hates driving in it!
Already stopping and clearing!
Yay!
Just had a brief down pour.
On the trip back from S.Africa our plane in Johannesburg had to sit on the runway for a 2 hour violent thunder and lighting storm to pass, which was as wild a storm as I have ever seen. Growing up in Okla. I thought I knew about lightening, but I remember nothing like that storm on Monday night. The take off was still a very nerve wracking affair, especially knowing about that plane crash the day before during a take off in a storm. Plus lots of lightening was still lighting up the sky near by and it was very windy when we took off. The plane was shaking a huge amount for a very long time. Not fun. You could hear people gasping. White knuckle time. It was a very long 17 hour flight to Atlanta, plus the 2 hours just sitting on the runway. I was worried about running out of fuel. Total time to get to NYC from Cape Town was about 30 hours. Too long.
Victor, hope your wife has an easy ride home. I hate driving in the snow. Patti
Thanks. She just got home.
All keep safe, including the people in OK. Evidently an ice storm followed by snow.
I am so mad at the weather people... you had to see me this morning trying to navigate around and the roads were sheets of ice... it was terrible.. so much for just a flurry in the afternoon... I would have changed my work plans for the morning if they had the forecast right.. BUT
well I started heading up to oak ridge... got 10 mins up green pond road which is a windy twisty road.. sliding all over.. turned around and headed back to Morristown.. took me over an hour.. for a 15 min ride.. took this with my phone sitting in traffic
Weather people aren't the same as they used to be up here, I had my uncle visit from Iowa and he was appalled at the casual nature and lack of weather info... well, that's understandable, considering he's from farm country...
- Heavy snow this am followed by sunny, ( albeit windy), skies, temps dropping fast.
Now 21°, windchill -6°, wind NE 20mph, partly cloudy
That wind is CRAZY!
yes it is crazy Jen
Whistling wind here! Predicted very cold tomorrow, glad that we did our grocery shopping today.
Chilled down quite a bit, currently 23*F and windy. I guess I'd better go get my second ton of coal tomorrow afternoon, so it's not full of snow and ice. That and a cord of wood should finish off the season. I have a fella that has a number of standing dead locust to cut yet after the ground re-freezes. This wood sounds like bowling pins when it hits the trailer, next to ash, I think it's the hottest burning, and produces the least creosote. Ric
chilled down is an understatement!!.. 16 now high of 22... going to be a fun day.. the wind is still whipping too

We have a wind chill avdisory in place, gust up to 40mph today making the already bitter cold drop into the negatives.
Severe Warnings are still in place for flooding but the water level has gone down. Unfortunately the ice jam is stuck 2 towns down stream and due to the cold weather froze in place.
Coast Guard cutters had arrived yesterday to break up the ice along with a 140 foot cutter from New Londen, Conn. They are running up against a foot of ice in thickness in most places so it's been slow but steady process. They are expected to be here all weekend chipping away at it. I wouldn't want to be on a boat today with those tempertures!!!!
Currently 18* and blowing 25 to 35 MPH with a light dusting of snow on the ground under clear skies. Glad I got those bulbs in the tucked into their new homes yesterday. Burrrrr.
I went swimming on a beautiful beach on the Cape (Africa) on Sat, so a big change for me. Here is a picture of the closed off part of the same beach for the penguins that was just a short walk down the beach from the public beach where I went swimming. Water was not as cold as in Maine in the summer, or a least it didn't seem so and the color was stunning and clear. Patti
Beautiful Patti! I just love penguins!!!
When was the last time you swam in Maine? Brave Women!! LOL
Very cool Patti! - The bird forum would love to see those!!
16°, windchill -2°, wind NNE 19mph, Sunny
Well so much for the Jan. thaw. It is 8 degrees right now with the sun shining at least. Wind variable from the west at 10 mph makes it feel well below zero. Should struggle up to high teens for a high temp. A little warmer each day the rest of the week.
