Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

With that snow gone I could sit on it again, irisMA. giggle

Still on Flood Watch until Thursday afternoon. The river is about 10 miles away and im at such a high elevation that it has never been a safety issuse. I live between 2 cities and you need to cross said flooding river to get to them. Most people who live out here in the country work in one of those 2 cities...wouldn't want to have to cross a bridge today. :(

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

never any fun that's for sure

It hasnt been really bad out there the last 2 days. But - its gonna get brutally cold. Harsh reality check in store.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ugh - sorry, Celeste.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

First time in quite a while that the trip to the feeders did not include any snow. Heavy frost crunched underfoot though. Temp now is 36 degrees with abundant sunshine and a light west wind.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

36*F and rising, a few clouds. The Susquehanna crested last night and the smaller streams earlier in the day. Most were just over the banks, damage was minor. Lucky that the ice broke up during the warm spell. Ice damning is what took out part of the Walnut St. bridge in 1996. That was dramatic to say the least. The ice piled up against it and as the river rose it just lifted a couple of spans off of the pilings and carried them away. The old structure withstood many floods even Agnes, which closed it to vehicles, it was kept as a pedestrian walk since it connected the river walk, City Island, and the West Shore. Ric

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow, that must have been scary, Ric. Was it caught on tape?

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

28° and sunny. Dusting of snow on the ground, callinf for lake effect snow for the weekend.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Wow! That was awful!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Ric. I didn't see a video on the Wiki link. Did I miss it? I was hoping to see a video of the actual break.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

The Wiki was just for backround info. Ric

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

That that some crazy stuff, what I don't understand is why people rebuild in the same spot???

It's getting colder
37 partly sunny

South Hamilton, MA

Need to raise the bridge? Bridges across the US are in bad shape, a few here are sure to go. the 2006 'Mother's Day floods took out 3 of the 4 bridges into the center of next town north here, on much, much smaller river.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Jen, I say that all the time. The same areas have floods, mudslides, etc., over and over and people keep going back. Worse, we subsidize their stupidity with gov loans, higher insurance premiums, etc.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

MA has a big problem all over the state with bridges - they are fixing the states only covered bridge here in Pepperell - well sort of, its be on/off for five years.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I think every state does.
