Group Seed Swap Discussion

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I'll start you a Lady Banks. We'll see what we can do.
Do you have a Carolina Jasmine??? Let me know if yours made it or not.
Have you seen the Kerria?? It is a pretty shrub too. It has undergound shoots I can get.
Now It's getting closer to spring it should be easy to start cuttings.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Diana - Yay! You are the first to get your envie! 13 more to go!

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

debra, I'll give you a jasmine cutting, dmail me.

What's Kerria? Is that a rose? I have New Dawn on my arbor on one side of my yard. It's a houseeater. I've never been good rooting roses. I need to go trim that guy back some. I usually do it in the fall but we had so much rain. It rained Thursday all day and it's supposed to rain tomorrow. So sick of the rain.

Mine arrived today!!! Great assortment of seeds!! Thank you to everyone who participated, and,

Becky, thank you so much for hosting this!

Deb

Deb - You are welcome! I hope when Spring arrives that everyone gets some great vines to sprout, grow, and bloom! Be sure to share any photos you get with all of us! :-)

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I got my pkg. I have a nice little paintbrush. Is that so I can be my own little Bee??
I do paint occasionally but sure didn't know you knew it☺☺
Got all my beautiful precious seeds and want to Thank everyone and Becky for
them all. Never had so many different seeds in my life. Thank you all.
Hugs and Nuzzles to all from me and the Longears...
Charleen, Charley and The Donkey kids.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

mine is i dont know where. all it says is its been processed

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Charleen, what do you paint. I do some acrylic and easy watercolor - nothing fancy.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Charleen - Glad to hear that you got your seeds! :-)

The paint brush is definitely a portable "bee"! LOL! It's great for hand-pollinating and for trying your hand at crossing vines! The 2 little organza bags are for protecting your blooms/buds/seedpods to keep them from being attacked by bugs or to mark any crosses you attempted. This is to let everyone try their hand at hand-pollinating! ;-) And for those of you that already have a paint brush ... my motto ... you can never have enough of them! :-)

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

The USPS are slow. Mine did not show any status on the first two days and it finally showed up last night. There is no update though but I have a feeling it will be updated AFTER they stick 'em in my mailbox.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Yeah ... I do think USPS is very slow updating the online tracking. You will probably get your envie before it shows as delivered on their link.

Her's a little of what I have painted.

Charleen - YOU are quite the artist!!! Nice paintings! :-)

Glad that Charleen and Nicole got their seeds today, too!

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

and that is a nice paintbrush too.
Thanks.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Got my bubblely full of seeds.. thanks so much, becky for this swap.. it was fun and will continue to be fun as the spring and summer come along. You are all so nice, I am glad I am part of ths wonderful family..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Debra - Glad to see the seeds got to KS already! I hope more folks received theirs today and just haven't had time to post to let us know!

I would imagine anyone who doesn't get theirs today will probably get them on Monday. :-) Watch those mailboxes, folks!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

How did the bubble envies look when you received them? Were they still intact and padded?

These are questions I am going to be asking to determine for next year's swap. :-)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Everything was perfect .. you were good to put the cardboard in there.. really Becky, Great Job!

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Yes, all the seeds were fine. Goodness. They were taped so good, I had to surgically remove them. :) JK.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

envelope was in good shape when it got here.

Cumberland Mtns, TN(Zone 6b)

I got my package today too!!!! I went to Knoxville today and havent been home too long. when i turned down the driveway I could see it propped up between our two mailboxes and I got so excited. I am speechless. Never did I imagine so many packs of seeds !!!!! Yes Becky...it arrived perfectly safe. Excellent job of packing. and i love my new brush. I feel so empowered ;) it will take days and days for me to look these all up! I hope we all have a bumper crop so that next year we can share our seeds with newbies. I cant get over everyone's generosity.
Becky... you were the hostest with the mostest =)

oh...so many seeds....so little time.

ok. I need to scroll back up, but if my lady banks rose makes it, i'll share too. wait...first, do i just root it in water? or root-tone and dirt? I didnt cover it for lack of time, even though the Rose Emporium said they wouldnt do well in my region. but so far its ok and we must've had temps as low as 8 degrees for over a week. They grew extremely well in GA...especially in Columbus where I lived. I bought a pink climber and planted it at my dad's house last year in memory of my mom who loved roses and its doing well too! ( ha ha guess what its name was? Phyllis. haha i hadta get it ) so I need a real lesson in starting climbers.

ps. I LOVED Callaway Gardens! one of the perks where i worked at was season passes every year so we went there all the time. gosh. this is making me homesick.

Nicole...that jasmine is beautiful. i can almost smell it. i'm dmailing in a sec.
Charleene, one of my good friends had yellow jasmine covering the entire end of his porch with the yellow and it was heavenly.

ok...time to calm down ;) time to put away the rest of my groceries and get comfy. I hadta come straight to the computer and brag, errr, i mean let Becky know I got my package ;) my deepest thanks to everyone for all the seeds and efforts.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Phyllis - Glad to hear you also got yours! You know ... you just brought up a good point about having to look up all the seeds/MG cultivars! I think this would be a good thread to post photos of those we shared with everyone IF you happen to have some photos. Some of the ones I shared won't be in PlantFiles or even easily located on the internet. So I will start by posting some of my bloom photos with the cultivar name.

Here is Mauve Splash.

Silver Shadows. Seeds I sent could be a cross with Mauve Splash. Which I tried to cross-pollinate on purpose! I will be interested to see what everyone's blooms look like from these seeds. :-)

Here's a picture of the White Hige (Shirohige) that I sent. This picture is from 2008, I can't find my pictures from this last year.

The leaves visible in the picture are from a passion vine it was growing with.

Ishidatami. (This cultivar can have both split petal and full formed petal blooms together on one vine.)

gracious! and I am the proud owner of these seeds. be still my heart

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Alamo Vine. The leaves on this vine are really pretty, too! This is a perennial plant unlike most MGs. It will live for several years if not killed by freezing temps. Makes a very nice potted vine. :-)

Pink Flaked I. purpurea. This cultivar produces a LOT of seeds and will give you many volunteers so be careful where you plant it! I grow my I. purpurea species in pots. :-) It is also known to go by other cultivar names such as "Carnevale di Venezia".

Purple Flaked I. purpurea. Same info as Pink Flaked only a different color. It also goes by other names.

Blue Asagao Willow. Seeds from this one can throw mutants that are really cool looking. Hence the name "Willow" as that is what the leaves will look like on the mutants. Some folks who have gotten seeds from me have gotten the mutant vines from those seeds. So plant it and see what you get! The mutants are sterile and will not produce seeds. You need to have a "normal" vine (as pictured here from my grow-out) to get seeds.

I forget who got seeds from me this year and lucked out and got a mutant vine. Perhaps if they are reading this thread/post ... they will post their photo here of the mutant BAW bloom/vine.
