So. Calif. Spring RU 2010

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

I've never been to a DG Round Up and I would very much like to attend. Fortunately and unfortunately, I'm committed to attend the San Diego Regional School Garden Conference. If by chance the RU date changes, I will head to Menifee. If not, I look forward to the next one!

Crossville, TN

Oh///I wish you could come...but please don't change the date...I alredy have my flight ticket.

Zone10...maybe we could get together there in SD. Jo

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Jo, OMG...It just never dawned on me that people would already have irrevocable plans to attend the RU. So, I officially recind my request to change the date and will keep my fingers crossed that I can attend next year. As for a get together in San Diego...I'm all for it.

Crossville, TN

OK...We'll try to do lunch either Friday or...hmmm...Friday!

I will be visiting with my granddaughter who is on the USS Nimitz...She lives near the Imperial Beach area...how far is that from you? I know there is a High School just around the corner from her. Jo

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Gee whiz roadrunner, you are almost at the border, when you are visiting Amy!
Zone 10, if you have some free time and want to come visit, just dmail me and we can set something up.
Lots of us do try to get together when we can. Maybe we can have a lunch or something during the week for some of our local DG'ers.
Sad to hear that you can't join us this year. Bet Robcorreia (did I spell that right?) won't be able to make it either. Has anyone heard from her lately?
WIB!

That is how it is throwing a party too, everyone wants the party but then when you pick the date, surely several can't come. Who ever comes, it will be fun. The nice thing about the plant trades they do in Arizona is that they all live within an hour or most of them much less. So they come, grab plants and run, but we are all spread across Tarnation.

So it has to be some assemblence of a shin dig.

If we have garden friends not on DG, we can invite them.

Will miss Jo for sure and zone 10, next time.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

(Wheeler Canyon, Concha, Tassajara Blue, Snow Flurry). both sound great Kathleen, if you can root me up some, I would be so excited to have them, they grow great here and I love them. They are pretty pricey so it will be a great favor to me, since I would like to have a hedge of them on the fence some day.

Thanks, put me down for that.

Dawn

Don;t count me out...just get ready with the chocolates!! LOL jo

Jo,
Believe me we are planning for your visit already, go look at the food thread. LOL!
As I said previously, if you want to camp over you can, we do have camp outs with the Scouts from time to time, I've got a portapotty coming in for our event and we have several fire rings, as long as we get the okay from the fire dept. we can have a real camp fire.
Anyone can come and hang out for a few hours or even a couple of days. A lot of folks do live close to me, but a lot don't. Wanted to make it possible for more people to attend by opening up the camp out option.
If you can't come this time, we're silly enough to do it again. LOL!
Friends are always welcome as are friends of friends. Just treat the land and the things living on it with some respect and we'll all have a great time.

SW

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Wow Jo, wouldn't that be nice if we could talk "plants" over lunch on Friday. As we get closer to the date, let's touch bases. We could swap cuttings?!

Singing Wolf...How late do these events usually last? It sounds like you may have some overnighters? Hmmmm, maybe I could drop by after my gardening seminar? You are so kind to consider another get together. I will be the first to sign up. How about Fall?

What a great group. Don't know why I never joined the California Gardening forum. Will now!

Crossville, TN

CAMP OUT?? My idea of roughing it is staying at a motel with out a pool!! Thanks for the thought though...If I had to sleep in one of those bag thingys someone would have to help me rise in the morning....LOL

Zone10...you are now among friend here...could you share your first name with us? Or I will just call you 10...and hope you live up to the number...LOL Jo

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Gee, "10" sounds a lot more exciting than "Sue", my real name.

You can call me either! ;-)

Sue

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Sue,
We can't host a RU in the fall. We really do live on a farm. In Sept. we go on vacation and rest up for the Holiday season. When we get home in early Oct. we set up the Pumpkin Patch. In Nov. we usually go to the Bee Convention and then start tagging the Monterrey Pines we sell as Choose and Cut Christmas trees. So that is a really busy time for us. It usually takes us til mid Jan. to recover from the Holidays, and then we are planting new seedling pines, and right now DH is gettng ready to move the bees north to the Almond Groves for pollination. DH and I are taking a week off in Feb. to go to O'side, for a break from our kids and the farm. LOL!
Besides, it's prettier in the spring. If we get much more rain the creek will be running clear not muddy this year! Lovely! It's also better for the plant trades as some need to be planted right away, in order to survive the coming winter.
roadrunner, there are lots of motels around here. The Pechanga Casino and Resort is nearby, Weegy has been there camping out in luxury. DH doesn't like camping (Tent or even in the 5th wheel), he likes hot showers, and watching tv. I was hoping to entice some of our Central and No. CA, DG'ers' to make the trek. Not to mention a lady from NV. As I said, anyone is welcome. Plenty to see and do.
You don't have to overnight, but the option is open.
What time does your Garden Conference end, Sue?
As I said, if not this year maybe next year. Any time you want to just come visit, send me a Dmail.
WIB,
SW

Crossville, TN

How about Sue10? LOL Jo

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Woohoo! finally got an internet connection at this hotel that will see
DMail. I have been trying to post for 2 days!! Just saw this Friday. As far as I know, Fiona and I can make it that day. We would be happy to come get you Jo if the crick don't rise like it has this weekend. We floated into Long Beach on Friday night-luckily just between storms. Fiona has a concert on Sunday at CSU long beach so is currently at rehearsal.
Happy Saturday everyone, Janice

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Jo, "Sue10" sounds kinda fun. Sure hope I can live up to this? LOL.

SW, I sure underestimated the amount of time and effort you spend taking care of things on your farm. Sounds like an interesting and fullfilling life! If the DG event usually runs into the evening, I thought I might stop by as the seminar ends at 3:30. Probably a far-fetched idea. I am happy to wait until next Spring. In the meantime, I can get to know you all a bit better.

There is this round yellow ball in the sky, emitting heat and light. I seem to have forgotten what that was?

How did you all fare during this week-long series of storms? My only damage: My third child or my 35 year old Staghorn Fern (platycerium superbum) fell off its platform. My DH wasn't home, so I had to carry her to a safe spot on my porch (photo). OMG, almost killed myself! She was mounted to a 9' square board. Her new home will be on a 16' square board. After that, she's on her own!

Oh, Jo, you are the RoundUp queen for sure! Thanks for posting it there, I always forget about that forum.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Jo, are you going to embarrass me at Hodad's again LOL!? Those boys are probably still talking about us. Sue we go to some "fancy" place so be sure to wear your "good" sneakers.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Sue10, I am sorry I missed roadrunner on her last trip, so watch out, her rep preceeds her. I understand she is a lot of fun to hang out with. : - )
You really hauled that huge stag horn all by yourself? So far you are rating a 10. The things we do for our plants. : - )
Build it a wall, and let it grow on the wall. That thing is a monster! : - )
Hope you didn't hurt yourself moving it.
Not sure yet but afternoon evenings are usually less stressful for some while others need to be home early.
Did we ever set a start time? Or are we going to do this on Indian Time? LOL!
roadrunner, and KC, you are making this Round Up painless for me so far. Thanks from my heart.

Jo JO JO JO, Sopapillo Cheese cake, with pineapple is dancing through my mind at this time.

If it is not raining and freezing, maybe I would consider camping out and bringing my dd. Last year she could not come because she was ready to have the baby. Would you care if she came with her baby? It is ok if you don't want that. I wish I had a motor home. I want to buy a small one.

Anyone have any red hot poker or daylilies to divide? I would love some.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

We're all family. (Warning to new parents, tent camping with teething children is not recommended for the parents sake.) ;- )
I know from personal experience. : - |
Seriously, if you'd like to camp over you'd be welcome to. We'll make sure you are up on high ground, LOL!
The kids won't be a problem, there is always something to do, and your DD isn't letting that baby out of her sight yet.
Try Craigs list for a Tent Trailer. Some friends just got one and loved it far more than any motor home or camper they've had before. Make sure you know how everything works. They aren't too expensive right now, if you have the money it's a good time to buy.
WIB!
SW

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

lol

Thanks, it is always chancy to camp in April unless you have a tent trailer or something enclosed anyhow. It sounds pretty there on your farm so the idea is appealing but really we are 2 hours away so I am sure we won't stay the night more than likely.

Thanks,

Dawn

Crossville, TN

Hey Folks...bad news...I may not get to come...life is getting in the way of what I want to do...LOL Jo

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Jo,
I hope things get better and you do get to join us. Until then I'm keeping you tucked into my heart and you'll be in my prayers too.
Lesson, no matter how much pain you are in don't miss the opportunity to go to lunch with roadrunner, she moves so fast, you may not get another chance for years.
roadrunner if we can do anything for you, you know you only have to ask.

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

Jo bad news not allowed. You have to be here for the swap!!!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Jo, I agree with Marie. You have to come, bad news or good news.
Kathleen, can I ask you for some cuttings, preferably rooted of some of your ceanothus. I love these plants and I had the variegated one for several years till something happen and it died.
Thanks and see you at the RU.

Rodica

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

I just can't do rooted cuttings, Rodica. :-( I'm going to try again soon, and if any of them 'take' I'll let you know but, so far, all my attempts have ended in failure.

I had three variegated ones last year that died, but I just planted another in a place that will get relief from the afternoon sun in summer - hoping that will work.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I read that they are short lived, so that is probably why they died.

Jo, my sopapillo cheesecake! This really sucks.

Just kidding, I know you will come if there is a way to come Jo. You are the RU queen.

Crossville, TN

I appoint Hellnzn11 to make the Sopapilla Cheese Cake!! I will certainly be there in spirit! Hugs Jo

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Oh my gosh, Jo, I told you that I tried once and the biscuits came out mushy and never cooked with the fruit on top. I like everyone too much to do that to them. I would have to practice and I can't do it right now after the holidays.

Crossville, TN

tsk tsk...one of the easiest to bake! LOL Jo

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Are you sure you won't be able to make it, Jo? We will miss you.

Crossville, TN

:) We'll see...thanks...Jo

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Oh, good, a 'maybe' is better!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Jo, not coming is not an option ! If Marie and I we can come, so do you.
Please, please, please, do everything in your power to come. I really, really missed you.

Crossville, TN

Rodica...You are just too sweet...I may make it to the Phoenix RU though...Jo

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

You have to make at least one. OK ?

Crossville, TN

I think is was Marie...the first time I met her...she was eating a piece of my Cheese cake...she asked me if I had brought it...I said yes...she then said "You're my NEW best friend!" LOL Jo
