Do you order on-line from the same venders every year? I have a core of two or three places that I have had good experiences with over the years but also from smaller local places too. I try a new company also from time to time because they are the only ones with a plant I really need. Probably you all do the same process, check watchdog and listen to people here and other forums. Shipping seems to be a big factor particularly with a small order. Service also is a big requirement. What new places have you ordered from this year? It would be nice to get a few new venders and also as the season progresses get reports on how things worked out. I have three that are new to me for ordering this year.

pat - i have stopped ordering from HCG - i always lose two or three plants with them - first year i asked for replacement and they did although tone of voice on the other end was not happy - last year they tried to charge shipping when i had ordered when free shipping was being offered - took 3-4 emails to fix and lost plants again

i am hoping this place romance gardens will be good - they have great reviews - and after they agreed to cut the freight by 50% yesterday i added on to the order and the freight price on-line went down (could only handle the freight discount manually) - as long as you order same size containers in quantities of 4 i think they will be good. Also the response to my questions was immediate and the owner gave his phone number if i wanted to speak.

I also like Lazy S&S - i have spoke to both hubby/wife and they are nice and plants healthy although smallish - very low pricing

and for jm's you can't beat davidsans, topairy gardens - wildwood is also good although trees can be a bit higher priced imho.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Fairweather is gold in my book. Nothing is ever small. Tres, shrubs, perennials are all great.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think they feel you are gold or green too victor:)

may have to try them soon

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Garden Crossings is always great too, but expensive. No pathetic little plants from them.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh boy pixie that is a lot of seeds. You are going to be very busy. Park catalog showed up here yesterday. I am not looking at it. Too many pretty pics. I can't wait to see all the new plants and flowers people are getting. This warmer weather will make it even harder to chill out till spring.

Only ordered a few things from them because couldn't find it elsewhere. I hope I have better luck. Always stopped short of ordering there because of distance to ship and the growing condition are so different. A lot of their plants will not do well here no matter what they say, because of the climate. They get one shot to come though, if not done with them.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I have only made a smallish seed order with Alberta Nursery (Bow seed) as they are peat pot supplier and need pots pdq. I am not allowing myself to order any more than this till I catalogue the 'seed cascade' in the seed fridge otherwise I will be double ordering AGAIN. Most of these are things I grow every year cuz I luv them.

brachycome white
brachycome blue
dianthus 'ideal select violet'
lobelia white lady
lobelia riveria blue splash
misty lilac wave petunia
summer savoury
scarlet runner beans
lobelia white lady
venidium fastuosum white/black (i collect seed from both the orange and red every year but the white disappeared. How funky weird is that!)
wildflower alberta heritage
wildflower alberta rocky mountain
lettuce bon vivant blend (new for me ^_^)

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Anyone gonna grow this one?
http://farawayflowers.vstore.ca/product_info.php/pName/ormea

What are the wildflowers dnut?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Ya I was wondering that too Dnut.
That is a big lily bloom and very pretty. I have an order in there thanks to pixie. I will be interested to see if it is that humungous. Need to kill much more grass.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Dnut, I think you need to get both Invincebelle Spirit and Pinky. Although I do not think you need a lot of encouragement do you? LOL It is a sickness.
I have Pinky Winky and ordered the IS for this spring. One is round and one is pointy shaped. PW blooms later I think and has white to pink flowers. I like your thought on more edging. That is my new motto, kill more grass.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Don't know phoebes. They are a mix. I plant them under the mountain ash and they surprise me every year.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hmm - will have to see if any of those fav's are what dnut sent me? :)

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Oooh--Ooooh! Someone grow these please? http://www.gardencrossings.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=plants.plantDetail&plant_id=1645
Bonus--->green on flowers makes them last much longer than normal.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OH yes those are OUTSTANDING!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Those petunias caught my eye too. Do you get GC e-mails, also?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes--for all the good it does me. I guess I can browse.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

started to go through some catalogs - got through 5 and that was enough - have to say that i did not spend the time i used to studying them - only have a short list and need to check that against my journal - hate to order something i already have:)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

You can never have too many yabbadabbadoo JMs though.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you got that right - 9 more on the way this spring can not wait:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Those petunias are nice but GC overcharges on annuals!!

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Love the petunias, my garden center sells PW I hope they get them!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Phoebe.. those petunias are great... will keep an eye out for them this spring

I picked up some two toned petunia seeds this year.. 1/2 way down my journal page.. hope they grow!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I'm doomed. The Botanus catalogue came today. They are my favourite supplier.... Did I mention I'm doomed?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL.. I feel your pain

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Wow! You've been doing your tunia homework! Are you winter sowing all of those? There are some real beauties there--many I've never seen before. I didn't get out to the garden centers as much as usual last couple of years. You've given me an idea for Capt. Kirk's garden--we can cover a lot of ground with petunias, he likes to grow from seeds, and if I can keep him down to a dull roar with the chemicals, we might have flowers!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am going to attempt to start them all real soon... see how it goes

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

D-Nut - Too bad, Botanus don't ship outside of Canada.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That's a fabby list Tex. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics when they are in bloom!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Well after dumping out the seed fridge, there are just a 'few' more seeds that I MUST have:

lobelia colour cascade
phacelia campanularia (california blue bells) cuz the ones I dried look too few
sweet pea north american beautifolia
alyssum royal carpet
bronze beauty calendula which I'm hoping self sows
torenia forunieri (clown mix) which I'm hoping self sows
paris island cos

Then because I've been very good about cleaning out the seed fridge so I don't order doubles, I have allowed myself to order the following plants which I am VERY excited about:

trollius 'Golden Queen'
tiny tot glads (cuz Damien the Spawn of Satan ate all but one of my dwarf glads last summer :(
echinacea 'Red Knee High'
polygonam aubertii (silver lace vine)
delphinium 'Delf Blue'
fancy leafed caladium mix (which is all your fault cuz you all kept posting luvly pics of them last summer)
adiantum pedatrum (maidenhair fern)
coreopsis rosea 'Sweet Dreams'
geranium 'Sweet Heidi'
phlox paniculata 'Peppermint Twist'
pulsaltila mix
miscanthus purpurascens
aster novi-belgii 'Crimson Brocade'

Now on to the Dahlias ^_^

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I have a couple of pages ear marked in the Swan Island Dahlia catalog.
I better pay for my 70$ caladium order first! Does it ever end!?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I was doing SO good until I saw Ferncliff's 2010 introductions!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Phoebes - I love that supertunia! I checked on their shipping cost, thinking I'd order one of those and one of the peppermint bi-colors, but $26.00 total for 2 little 4.5" pots of annuals is way too rich for me. Yikes. My supertunias were nipped badly in the cold, so I need to replace 2 baskets. I think I'll have to seek them locally, although I'm sure I won't find the cool one you pointed us to!

I finally got my Brent & Becky's catalogue, and I'm sooooooo tempted. It has been so much fun reading what you guys are ordering. Fun fun fun!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have to steele myself from looking any further.
I'm saving for a bathroom remodel.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Tex that is an impressive list, specially the echies. Oh such beautimous gardens everyone is going to have. See Dnut that's the problem, once you get a taste you just need more. It's like potato chips isn't it? I have two small orders waiting for Feb. Trouble is by then they will probably not be so small.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

have started looking into more hardy geraniums for ground cover - probably will order a few next week

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Let me know where you find a large assortment.I am interested in a few more
