Coffee Break #29 - Halfway through January

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Everyone calm down until the dust settles.
Keep your heads but exchange e-mail addresses just in case the dues double and the rules are stiffling.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

How about a thread for email addresses no matter what??

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Not a bad idea.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

But do we want our email addresses 'public'?? Maybe we should just dmail?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

That's what I was thinking

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

lily the bear site is overloaded - lots of fans waiting to see those cubs!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I could not get on.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Maybe Victor would like to be the keeper of the gate as far as email addresses go? I know he has mine, so probably has a lot of others? I agree, I would hate to lose touch with you all.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Ric, I love your plan for what to do if you win the dream home. Personally, I would sell the SUV, though. The $500K would probably be spent on paying the taxes on my win. LOL!

Oh, Victor, did you forget that I'm gonna win?!!!!

Sherrie, that sounds like some good news on your eye. Glad it wasn't so bad after all.

JoAnn, I know how you feel about Kinkade. His stuff is pretty generic, I think, and breeds a lot of copycat work. But then there will always be copycats in the art world when you get an artist whose work becomes wildly popular like his has become. There are people who either love him or hate him. Personally I like your work better. :o) Actually, that Bloomsbury Cafe piece is better than many of his more polished, finished pieces. I understand about being snobbish about collecting art. If I could afford it, I would only buy originals myself. As far as I'm concerned, I would rather spend $800 for an original that I really liked by a 'not-so-well-known' artist than for a reproduction. At a local mall here there is a so-called 'gallery' with original paintings. All cheap stuff, and cheaply done and mass-produced. Yeah, it's original stuff, all right. Along the lines of that guy who did the quickie paintings on PBS whose name escapes me.

'Fargo', JoAnn? I couldn't stand that movie. Can't believe I sat and watched the whole thing. On TV, mind you. I kept thinking it might get better, but it never did.

Hey, Polly, there's nothing wrong with collecting those things, as long as you know they really don't increase in value. I've watched shows like 'Cash In The Attic', and they say that items that are manufactured specifically as collectibles nearly never increase their value. I guess it's cause so many are mass-produced.

Hey, that originally sounded like bad news, but Dave later posted this on that quilting thread.

Did anyone happen to read that part? Looks like he has a place in the new company after all. I wouldn't panic yet.

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sure - I can do that if people want. Juts dmail me your email addy if you like. I can distribute it to whomever you choose.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you for doing that Victor.. we will figure something out if it doesn't work out.. but lets hope for the best and hopefully nothing will change

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Let's do it now, just in case. I don't expect anything will happen, though.

Victor has my permission to give my email address to anyone on the NE forum.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

mine too.. I think dmail is the best choice

East Bridgewater, MA

Victor's "renaming" joke:

"Conan's Garden."

LOL !!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that's funny!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

lol
I really hope they don't make any drastic changes, why try to fix it if it's not broken, right?

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I'm not fond of Thomas Kinkade. If I'm gonna buy a mass produced artist calendar, I usually go for the classics like Ansel Adams or a French impressionist, maybe a rennaissance painter, but I'm not in the mood for any of those. What I really want is a Calvin and Hobbes calendar. Do they make those? I had better get buying any old calendar, now that I come to think of it.

My heart nearly bottomed out when I read about Dave being kicked out, then it started beating again when I read that was just a rumor. It's still pretty scary. I didn't like it when DG was sold to NameMedia, but I have to admit, I hardly noticed a change.

Everyone loved the "Conan's Garden" joke. There were a few times where you made me laugh today, Victor, but I didn't get this one. Care to enlighten?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Karen! Sorry you didnt like Fargo. It was pretty darkly humored.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Conan O'Brien.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

If Leno lets him!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I love Calvin and Hobbes. I liked Bloom County too, before Bloom county was in our local paper my sis used to clip them out and send them to me from IL.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Went grocery shopping the other day, 2 bunches of on the vine tomatoes cost me $10!!!!! how crazy!

North Augusta, ON

wow!! I get them here...a bunch on the vine, 5 or 6 nice tomatoes, for $2.97.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's sick. Would never pay that much.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Those usually taste the best out of store bought, didn't notice the price until I checked out and almost had a heart attack, can't wait to grow my own.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

That is crazy! They must have been imported...from the Riviera :-)

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Wow maybe mis-priced? Better be the best tasting super duper vitamin rich tomatoes on the planet if that is the real price. Do people really pay that?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I just paid 5$ for a quart of strawberries...there was a sign explaining the cost due to the freeze in Florida...I wonder how many stores will take advantage?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

LOL, I think the old fashioned snuggle up together to warm the sheets is just fine. Good advertising gimmick though. I suppose if you travel alone it might be a hoot to try.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe while my wife is in the bathroom?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - people are writing novels on that thread about Dave. I can never read long posts like that. You should be able to make your point a lot quicker!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Post from new owners. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7483956

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - that was last night.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

verizon is driving me nuts right now - we use to have a stand alone phone line just for fax and dsl - i changed it the beginning of the month to have dsl run in the background on our phone line

first because we are at the "end of the cable" there were problems getting dsl to work on the phone line. no internet for two days and needed a service visit

yesterday we get shut down for non-payment - have had the dsl line for two weeks?? - they don't know why we were shut off - down for 3 hours

today shut off again for non-payment - down for another three hours - and they can't tell me why this is happening

what will tomorrow bring? - really pissed off (is that ok to say?)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I dont read the Dave posts.
All the long speculation about the change is for nothing.
Wait to see what will happen then decide if
I'm in or out.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Karen, I think you may have been referring to Bob Ross on PBS. It was more of a method than a person. Our son took some of the classes at the local Ben Franklin craft shop and produced a number of paintings, considering he was 8 or so when he started, I was impressed. Ric
This was his 1st!
