Yeah, Polly, trees for shade would be nice. Would love to have a winter home.
Victor, I think the house alone is worth $3 million, and then there's the car and money. Yeah, selling is the best option.
Very cool, Cousin Nut! Did I mention you're the coolest nut of all?
Love the Pook Tree site, Boston.

Coffee Break #29 - Halfway through January
No, it says right on the site the total is over 2 million. Don't forget you can enter every day!
Saw an interesting show the other night on the massive blackout in the northeast in 2003. There were many factors involved, but one of the main reasons it happened was that there were untrimmed trees near the high tension transmission lines. When the lines overheat, they sag. These sagged enough to get close to the branches and arc to them. Incredible that this multi-billion dollar grid could be brought down by trees!
I broght my older son to work that day. Luckily, I left early with him or we would have been stuck. He was only four at the time.
Okay - now I get it.

Victor, I live across the street from the lake with many, many camp roads. All summer long tree trimming trucks were seen all over this area........because of all the tree's on the tension wires. Blew 3 transformers the winter before, was without power for 3 days and enough residents complained that there was no need of it!
That's just crazy!
This year I bought a generator.......now I haven't lost power for more than a few hours. LOL
Good move.
Homes here are being built with generators aside the AC units.
Smart.
Good for you Pixie! I have been meaning to get one.Soon as I find an affordable one.
Cool video! Actually Jay has been very gracious about the mess at NBC and says Conan is a good guy. I'll watch Jay no matter what time he comes on.
Thermal heat would be even better. They have it everywhere in Iceland where its ALWAYS cold and it is a great system.
What do you mean by thermal heat??
Never thought Conan was funny. Letterman either, for that matter.
Last year's storm in MA & NH left people without power for 12 days. Partly because power poles came down, but partly because no tree maintenence caused branches on the wires. Since National Grid has done our area, maintenence work has been systematically done.
Iceland has thermal gases underneath the ground. Like living on top of Yellowstone geysers?
Geo Thermal Heat uses groundwater.

Iris, Icelands' land mass is just the top of a large avolcano. There is more of it under water than is above. Very scary.
Oh - okay. Geothermal.
Yep that video make it all crystal clear.
I can't stand Conan and don't watch Letterman.
When they were talking about moving Leno to the earlier slot they had said they wanted to bring back the old family variety type show, what I saw was absolutely non-family friendly in fact even more offensive stuff than he had on late night, and they didn't even really change the format, I mean come on... the same band, still had headlines(of course the best part of the show) but all they took away was his desk. I was very disappointed.
Never watched it. How can a show at 10PM be family oriented anyway?!! Have not seen him in many years, but at least he can be funny at times. No one comes close to Johnny.
Ugh - just back from the attic. Hate going up there. The fiberglass chokes me - even with a dust mask. I had to try to seal the entry where the dang squirrels keep getting in. It's one of the louvered vents at either end.
We have a number of PNW forum members who are part of our family. I got this sad news from Dea:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1070713/
Oh, okay, Victor, for some reason I thought I had read somewhere that it was a $3 million home. Now I'm reading that it's valued at $1,500,000 (including lot, furnishings, artwork, etc.), then there's the $500,000 cash prize. The car is valued at $38,375. So it make the total value at $2,038,375. Would be nice if you could chose all cash for the value of the prize and just take what's left after taxes. I could live quite comfortably for the rest of my life on half that amount of money, as I'm not one who requires a lavish lifestyle to be happy.
Victor, they have been trimming the trees around all wires in our area all year here. Good idea to do that. More homeowners should be more conscientious about not planting tall trees near overhead wires. Makes more work for the town and the tree ends up looking bad from the trimming the do to it.
I've never liked Conan or Letterman, either, Victor. I like Jay.
That is very sad news, Victor. I did not know Michael, but it doesn't matter. Such a tragic accident. So sad.
Karen
I did not run into him on here Victor.. but that is terrible
Neither did I, but Dea said he was a wonderful guy so he must have been.
I think he was on recipes quite often. What a horrible way to go. Prayers are with the family.
I didn't know Michael either, prayers for his family and friends.
I was finishing a scrapbook of the oldie pics of my mom and dad and with one of the scrapbook packs I got a free 7 day with ancestor.com. It's really cool, I got a copy of hand written 1930 census record and draft card for my grandfather. The internet is an amazing thing.
Wow, amazing that those documents are still around, and available on the web.
very cool Jen
Yes, Michael Z will be missed.
Wow - how cool, Jen.
Eye Update: From a scratch to glaucoma and now just Iritis.
Pressure 14 - Very Good.
The eye was so aggrevated 2 weeks ago it was hard to diagnose.
There is a tiny deposit that is starting to go away. Take 2 different eyedrops 2 times a day and come back in a week.
Its "possible" that the eyedrops will be stopped - totally. I dont have ins. and could be shipped out to a lab but more then likely the results will come back negative.
Will never know what aggrevated this eye.
The plan: 1 win the dream home package. 2 keep the 500K and SUV. 3 Sell the home and retain exclusive rights for using the Casita for snowbirding from Jan.- Feb. LOL Ric
As Maxwell Smart would say, 'There's only one thing wrong with your plan, Ric. I'm winning!'
Nice puzzle, ge. Glad I didn't have to do it.
made me nuts
I love Thomas Kinkade. You don't Jo Ann?
I like him. Love his use of light. I am using a daily calendar that has his paintings.
Conan is getting paid 32 million not to work!
I'm sure glad NBC dosen't run the unemployment system. SNORT Ric
Unless you're the one who gets laid off!
