LOL Phoebes, I let my children run wild thru the woods behind our house. I know they got into things they probably shouldn't have and ventured way too far on more than one occasion. There is a nice creek back there, some cliffs to climb and plenty of paths to ride their ponies on. They camped overnight all on their own. With just a few unknown checks from Dad. I think they learned some self reliance, that there are consequences for their actions, they had a great time and some wonderful childhood memories. But they also learned to respect the landowners and neighbors very early. At about 6 or 7 after damaging a small area in the neighbors field of corn by running thru and breaking off corn stalks to make swords. One of my sons got marched over to the farmers house to make apologies and offer payment for the damage.

and a gorgeous one it was tonight. If there wasn't a house behind me it would have been a great photo op.

Started out cold at 10 degrees but with the sun shinning it has gotten up to 30 degrees already. Wind is from the NE and temps in the 40s for the weekend, yippie!
I had to use pliers to pull the candy cane pegs, only because of the long taper design was I successful. They were on the north side of the house, in the shadow, that area may not thaw till March at these temps. LOL Ric

nice Victor.. we don't worry about pegs until spring Ric... but most of our stuff is cut rebar and should come out pretty easy if we can ever see the wires
great temp to go xc-skiing today, snow was perfect after a ski mobile went over who ever used an ATV on some of the trails - this is conservation land and no motorized vehicles as supposed to be allowed - someone has been dragging dead trees and blocking them - a hassle for me on ski's so i drag them out of the way - when i saw the ATV tracks i was re-thinking moving them out - ATVs should be outlawed in my opinion, too loud and cause to much damage to trails

We hit 44*F here today so I went out in the sunshine to do a few chores. My 1st surprise was the pond heater was not in a hole in the ice, but a bowl in the ice! I have been checking on it to be sure it was working, and was. As I dug through 9-10" of ice to make a breath hole I found one of our fan tails frozen in the ice under the heater. I hope the other pond life fared better. Ric
Thanks J2, we made it to 23 today and should only drop down to 18 tonight and warming to the 30's tomorrow!! I'm excited!!!

Up in the 60s today...finally! The week ahead looks perfect...highs in the low 70s and 50's at night. Yay....no more electric heat!!!!!! It was really nice to have a fire in our fireplace at night though. We had to move the puppies' wrestling ring back so we could have a fire! Karen (Nutsfordaylily) and her Dad finally got a good beach morning in today; then they came by this afternoon and we enjoyed their visit. They were heading to the beach again late this afternoon when they left us.... To quote Karen, "One more sunset before we go."
It is still dark here but the temp is more than twice what it was yesterday. Temp now is 27 thanks to he wind shift to the SW. It might get into the mid 40s. Sunny too! yeah! wish it would last more than a few days but ya never know.
