35 and sunny
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 60
temp is short of 30, however the sky is only partly cloudy & feels all right, cold, but not bitter.
Wandered around mid town and did go to the Lionel Train show in Grand Central station. It is open until Jan 18th and Free. Wonderful to see. Thanks Victor. It was not packed and had about an equal amount of adults without kids to kids and parents. A lot of old folks with young hearts for train sets. Loved the welders working on the tracks with the blue flames and the dock scene with the trains going by. Terrific. Beautiful day in NYC. Patti
Great to hear, Patti. Wish I could have seen it. Was worried it was already done.
Still time for a trip to the city with the boys or by yourself. Thanks again for telling me about it. Patti
My Father bought my brothers the complete Lionel train set back in the 50's. He was a lineman back then, chose to go with out new longjohns so the boys could have the set for Christmas. He was a good Dad.^_^
Great dad! I have lots of respect for linemen. Crazy dangerous job.
Yes but he rose to be supervisor of Central Maine Power Company, Waterville Div. ^_^
I liked to go into his office and mess with his blueprints. ^_^

Cool!
He didn't think so. lol
Hee hee. Is he still around?
No, he died when I was 25, spent just as much of my life without him as I did with him.:(
He was 39 when I was born, Mom was just months shy of her 41st b-day, I was a mistake. ^_^
Sorry.
Thanks Victor, i've gotten used to it.......being a mistake that is. ^_^ At their age and after 6 boys in a row, I can't say I was anything but a mistake! LOL
I'm sure that you miss him. Some mistakes are great fun. DH has a cousin our girl's age. 2 older siblings are dead, so her sister would otherwise have no one left.
I think I might have been 18 when my Aunt Jen was born, would have made my dad 41 when he got a new step sister. LOL My pop was an amusing old goat. I think he was around long enough to see her graduate. My dad finally went part-time at Home Depot this year, he's 81 and works outside in the patio in Fla. He's a tough old goat too. Ric
Wow! Cool, Ric. Kind of like my mom, who has nieces older than her!
23 now .. high of 35
We are due for warming for the next 3 days.
Maybe I will see about 20 pounds of birdseed.
wow that will be quite a feast
12° A warm up later in the week is predicted. It would help to get some snow melt. I bet upstate NY is hoping for melting as they have much more snow than we do.
The sun is just coming up and making a very dark red sunrise through the trees. Temp is only 12º and little or no wind, when it does move the needle it is from the nnw. Probably won't get quite as warm as yesterday and top out around 30º.

Ouch - cold, Celeste!
21 and partly sunny. 40's on Friday!
Can't wait for Friday! Should reach close to 40 here......high 30's anyway and a welcome relief. ^_^
was 9 here - my #2 daughter was a mistake:)
had a herd of deer out back this morning, i have scared them off three times so far - they have not come onto my property just the field out back and some brush in the wet lands - one more sighting and i'm going to have get dressed and charge them - my wife was laughing at me when she left for work because the last two walked off and were barely giving me any notice.
23°, windchill 9°, wind NW 9mph. partly sunny
Wha, you may have just found a full time job if you have a herd near your garden. If your arm waving isn't working, perhaps you should throw up some deer fence ASAP. Once they start to establish a path you need to redirect them as they are critters of habit. You just don't want it to be in your habitat. Wish you well.
Cloudy in NYC and the temp is 20* according to my DH who just made a bagel run. Leaving in an hour for warmer climes. Mean of me. Survive Jan. all. Patti
patti have a GREAT trip - they are going across the pond that stops in the spring and it is rare when the venture over here - i am on the job though:)
Waving arms, barking like a dog works pretty well to scatter them Bill. Oh and pink garden clogs, okay maybe you can leave out those, but consistency is important. It took me years and constant vigilance to change the feeding path of the deer around here. I think currently a local coyote is helping this winter as well. Like Patti says don't let them get a foot hold or hoof hold in your yard.
Have fun Patti!!
i understand the habits of the deer - that's why i was thinking of setting up a snares by a hydrangea they nibble on during the rare times they enter the yard - the warm weather this week should help them stay in the woods where they normally hang out.
They will walk down our driveway which is a real annoyance. They were meeting in part of our yard under a cedar tree during deeper snow. Coyotes have been known to get one on the trail (walking & riding) which crosses our property. Who knows what the bow hunters were able to get this yr.
i just read a story about "deer yards" which are places deer go to every year when deeper snow arrives - they will travel for miles to reach these places which are typically hemlock or other tree stands that offer protection from snow fall and cold winter winds - the story was written about NH where these herds may have 40 deer or more - once snow melts they return to their normal territory
we have a stand of hemlock and white pines on the other side of the wetlands and i have noticed numerous deer "beds" back there in the past - the owner just had the trees thinned out last year so hoping this will help keep them away.
There certainly is a yard or more deeper in the woods west of us. Like most of MA deer are overpopulated.
Pixie, I just got around to looking at this thread. Ric has already posted but I also have a story for you. My grandparents after 5 girls had a change of life baby ten years after the previous pregnancy. Yes, it was another girl and my grandmother was pregnant at the same time as two of her daughters. I remember her saying that it was quite embarrassing especially at church gatherings. But that God gave her a beautiful daughter much loved and wanted. My aunt was only 3 years older than me and we grew up as friends and still are. Holly
There are a number of children of first cousins who are older than me!
I'm only 2 years older than my nephew.
My brothers came 13 and 14 years after me, but that was OK cos they were boys! And they were both wild childs--Once a lady came to the door and complained that they threw rocks at her car as she was driving down the road, and my mother was upset that the woman had the "nerve" to complain--my father made a joke of it. The boys were quite aware of my parents' response and there were no consequences for them. This was one of those pivotal that was very confusing to me, made made me wonder if I had been dropped into the wrong family. There would be many more similar incidents...
And also have an Aunt who is only a few years older.

Wow, nothing happened to your brothers for throwing rocks at a car? My butt would have been black and blue.
