76 more days!
Here is an Alberta spruce and Tamuke yama.
Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day - Part 4
Nice contrast!
Thanks! Yes, I like pairing conifers and JM's.
I love that shot!! Nice pairing.
such beautifull flowers make me wish spring was here now
mona
that is a pretty shot
New thread and some very nice shots. Columbines of every form are just great garden plants and that pic of pretty pink ones shows off why onewish.
Two nice combos from Victor and JoAnn with JMs and other plants that look so pleasing to the eye.
Here is another columbine. This one seeded itself. I love how they pollinate each other and start new colors and plants without any help from me. They some how usually pick a good location too.
ohhhh deal I hope my clementine Blue and Purple dont mix.
I also have Clementine red.
I've stopped buying Columbine hybrids. They don't live long and I get cooler colours from my old ones mixing themselves.
Thats bad news about short lives.
I'll sow poppies where I want colors of a certain sort.
Then I wont be dissapointed when they dont come back.
I better see my Clementine Sorbets.Last year was the first.
How long is the life span of a hyb.
WOW Its a beauty
ooo...I like that one Victor!
I only ever get a couple of years out of the hybrid Columbines up here.
I'll keep my eyes on mine.
Glad to know ahead of time so I wont think the whole garden is going if they dont make it.
Beautiful cols and clems!
One of the columbine problems is that some think the best spot is the middle of our gravel driveway. A nice white one appeared there one yr & subbornly resisted being taken up & planted in the garden. It must be related to dewberry.
wow nice blooms
Nice Stolwyjks Mine never grew.
What would anyone replace an expired columbine with?
Maybe clems.
I love the clump of leaves and tall stems supporting the blossoms.
I've got a patch of old fashioned Columbines that have been there for 16 years. They don't get attacked by bugs as much either.
i'M going there.
Yes there are many long lasting that self sow too. I can collect some seeds for you this summer ge if you like.
What colors, Nutty?
Ours seem to be blue & white, the white only type has not reappeared. Trade seeds with others?
Purples and pinks in different shades Victor. I started a new yellow one (that according to a my bud is a gooder) which will flower this spring. I will post pics and bag em and tag em for collecting this spring. Many I can't ID as the seed has been passed from gardener to gardener to me.
I'm in for trades too!
last year I grew from seed and planted over 300 columbines in a 6 feet by 60 bed I cant wait to see them bloom this year since my girls mixed up the tags I will have to wait and see how the colors look
nice pic
Wha, I remember seeing that composition in your yard and wanting a Red Majestic walking stick, big time. Now more than ever, HLWS not Richard Nixon.
Ge1836....want so badly to be able to get any Somnifariums to reseed. Love them, especially your PD. It is a wow.
Love seeing all the columbines. I started a white/greenish one from Select Seed some years ago (2006) and it is almost invasive, but in a wonderful way. It is Aquilegia Green Apples. The foliage is lovely all summer. We have an old dark purple one that has taken over a few spots and now has many new colors mixed in with it, but that is fine too. Patti
Nixon??
Oh - not a crook (ed)??
My mother still has a campaign button the says "President Nixon Now More Than Ever" Patti
Pretty, Jen.
I remember that slogan, Patti. Was a young kid, but I do.
Lots of pretty columbines again everyone. Plus a gorgeous HLWS, poppy and some bright sunny tulips. Beautiful stuff.
Patti, I remember that and the bumper stickers that followed. "Don't Blame Me I'm From Massachusetts!" :)
