I have not ordered clems from them but have received a couple honeysuckle vines and so far so good. They arrived in a decent size and healthy, no problems. As I said I hope to order another that is currently out of stock.
What Have You Ordered 2010
i'll take a pic when/if a get one there this spring
Bill!! I had my one and only co-op experience last year. What a disaster.
I only do the Caladium 4 Less and RosyDawn co-ops. Totally wonderful.
I will never be convinced to buy plants that small again.Everything dissapeared from Perennial and Clematis co-op.
I' have always advocated buying LARGE perennials. That's why I never liked Bluestone.
sorry to here that joann - last year was my first too i had a few bad experiences although mostly good - as i've said a few times if it is available locally, and the plant can be split you get three that are bigger than purchasing from a coop - many i bought were new and unavailable locally though
Thats my only teason for not shopping locally.
I do find different varieties online.
I have been building new gardens since I moved here 3 years ago. It has been expensive .This year should bring many rewards.
I had some disabling leg problems that didnt allow me to wander thru plant displays and I still prefer to make my visits short.
There is a place near me where I have engaged the woman in charge of perennials and she has done me the favor of ordering plants I want but we are not talking dozens, more like 2 or3.
They have a really nice assortment so I wont abuse the special order privilage. I believe she can sell the plants I dont take.
Lily bulbs are another matter. I cant find anything local that can compare with B&D ,TheLilyGarden, and BuggyCrazy.
I like larger plants as well if I can get them. I can't get out to local nursery so much now, so on-line ordering has been very helpful. Good root systems are most important to me for spring planting and large plants for the fall. Bluestone sends small plants but usually good root systems and I always pot them up in a 4 or 5 inch pot when they arrive as the soil usually is either still frosted or too wet to be walking about and digging and they don't dry out so quickly. They grow fast and are decent sized by the time I get around to plant them.
The Bluestone plants grow amazingly well. I wish I had a full pic of the aquilegia winky blue and white, grew huge in 1 season.
Same here.Their plnts catch up fast.
I haven't checked the caladium classified yet. Is Bill offering the same varieties as last year or adding some new ones?
Victor, Some are different from 2009 but have been offered by him in previous years, like white queen. But it is a nice list for sure. I have had great luck with his caladiums. Stored some too, which worked out pretty well. He is offering a discount on even the ones not offered. I ordered a couple of those too. Patti
Thanks, Patti. I'll check it out soon. Have a great trip!
Some that I ordered weren't on the sale list. I didn't know he discounted those also.
Have a great trip, Patti!
Thanks Pollyk, I think he will give you 10% off of any that he has that are not on the sale list. Patti
He sure is a generous guy.
And a really nice one. We conversed quite a bit this winter. He has wonderful visions and goals for himself.
still praying the caladiums are ok!!!
Yes, I sent in my order, and haven't received an invoice yet. I'm sure he's bombarded with orders, and of course no problem waiting for my invoice, but I sure hope it's not due to any other problems.
I ordered too and no invoice....was thinking the same thing that i hope all is OK with the bulbs.
I got mine. But I sent my order in very early. Eager beaver. He is worried about some of his stock. Me too. Patti
He ahs cashed my check.I cant remember an invoice but I'll check.
Just checked Jan 7 the invoice came

Anyone ever tried any of the micronutrient foliar sprays like spray-n-grow? I receive their catalog each year and noticed they also have a safe fungal spray as well. Thought I might try them since we had so much fungal diseases here last year with all the rain. You just know those little spores are everywhere just waiting to attack again this year. Would like to hear any experience you all have had with these type of products.
placed a small order with lazy s&s today - Kordus red pieris and Poncirus trifoliata 'flying dragon' japanese bitter orange
Aha! Another 'mirror' plant from my garden! You'll like it.
spray and grow has great ratings in watchdog
:) was going to surprise you with a picture - it will be very small only a quart container.
Slow, steady grower. At least you get the cool shape / thorns right away.
I just got an email from Bill at Caladium Bulbs 4 Less. He said they may have suffered some minor damage only, and in fact, have good news that they have been able to close a deal just recently to expand their business. So all is well.
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the cold?
Yes.
great news for someone who deserves good breaks.
I just want to say Thank You to the folks that have been worried about me down here in frozen Florida. We're in the big thaw now...lolol... It got down to 25 out at the fields on Monday morning. It'll be a week or so before we know the full extent of the damage but all the growers I deal with are VERY optimistic that we'll be OK. There might be a little damage but nothing to worry about. For those of you that haven't received an invoice hang in there, besides being super busy, I've had a cold that's kicking my backside.
The deal Polly is referring to is the fact that I just bought one of the growers mail order business. I wouldn't have bought it if I thought I'd have any problems securing bulbs. That's the least of my problems!!! I started filling up my warehouses yesterday. I brought in about 30,000 bulbs yesterday and should have another 30 to 40,000 by Friday
biLL
Yaaaaaaaayyyyy Bill! Congrats!!!
Thanks for coming on to say hi, Bill. We were never a bit worried about your filling the orders. We were just worried about you.
We don't just love you for your caladiums, LOL. Everyone that has dealt with your business has said what a pleasant experience it was, and what a wonderful person you are.
That is a ton of bulbs, whoo hoo!!!!!!!! Congrats on the new venture.
.
Great news, Bill. So I guess you won't be running low!
Hi Bill ^_^ So happy to hear there wasn't too much damage. Ditto to what my dear NE friends said!
I am thinking about jack-in-the-pulpet--had them in childhood fern bed. Mom liked the ferns & I liked the jack, lily of the valley & trillium.
I have a struggling jack-in-the-pulpit irisMA. Methinks it will be an entry in the 'Plants I Have Luved and Killed' chapter this spring sigh. I have a luvly fern/lily of the valley bed though.
How alkiline is your soil? Does jack like that? Friend says that her jacks are becoming invasive.
VERY alkiline and clay. Please don't judge by me irisMA cuz my Jack is dying and probably mostly dead already sigh. Really painful to look at last season. If he pops up this spring I will post but I highly doubt it.
