Bill that wisteria is a reminder of my childhood, pretty and I can just smell them, so sweet. Monarchs are last butterflies to show up here as well and so lovely in the garden. Nice lighting on the rhodo and what nice deep color on that iris. So many gorgeous columbines. How to fit them all in is the challenge. Azalea, lilies and a robin, boy wouldn't that make a much nicer scene than all this snow and ice.
Here is veronica 'Fairytale', some self seeded astilbe and a clem 'Louise Rowe' from last june.

ngam that's so pretty! I love astilbe, I tried some last year but even my shady side didn't have enough shade, they got cooked. I'm trying to get more trees and shrubs along the propert line so i can have shade. Found one of my little redbud in bloom

Yer killin me here! Beautiful!

I feel like planting something the pics are so inspiring! NOID primula grown from 'mixed' seed. The white petals are fallen May Day blossoms.

This is a good thread about dahlia suppliers with a couple suppliers from the NE (she says enablingly) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1064614/#new

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Love that lily, Jo Ann!

Self seeded astilbe! Wow it seeded in the right place, Patti!

Nice redbud Lynnie, very nicely shaped.

Nice bright primula, especially nice grown from seed, D'nut. What is a May Day blossom?

Iris Dancing Lilacs. I have it under my lilacs and spirea.

The Lily was from B&D and I ordered 3 only 1 was the right one, the other 2 were regals not particularly exciting to mme.
I moved them and planted High Steaks

Well at least the right one is beautiful. Kind of ticks you off, doesn't it?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Blossom from a May Day tree. Very fragrant although some peoples are allergic

o and it makes a gazillion babys that you have to weed out unless you want a May Day forest, then that would be a good thing

I hate when something blooms and it's not what you thought!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

It wouldnt be so bad if it didnt happen with the whole order.
Which was 3 Moonlight Strain
3 Copper King

There were supposed to be 3 Copper Kings and out of 3 only 1 CK and 2 NOID's When they sent the "were sorry for the mistake" appeasment present
IT was labled Starling DL which was ok with me to have DL's instead of lilies, but THOSE were marked Starling they actually were 1 Starling and 2 Red Thrill that took me a season to get identified on the B&D site.
I swore off B&D but haunted their site and saw the great 1/2 price off DL' close out. They were easing out of the DL business and selling large bunches.
I got huge bunches, many with 3-6 fans and 2 noid lily bulbs.Lilies must have bounced in while packing.

I didnt find Moonlight Strain when I ordered a replacement this fall so HighSteaks is the best match for color.HS is from The Lily Garden.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

That's funny, the lilies bounced in while packing.

I know a lot of people are going to boo me, but I just can't get into daylilies.

(Zone 5b)

I never did either, all of a sudden last year I liked them. I planted 3.
i'll probably get more when I have places to put them...I have lots of SPACE it's just a big field, needs structure.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

No boos here polly although Cousin Nut will go :O I have given most I had away due to their persnickety habit of failing to bloom some years and/or having a short bloom time. I do adore the Stella d'Oro which is early and an everbloomer for me and Raspberry Pixie though. There are some repeat bloomers that are very prettiful that I might try too.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I think daylilies are good for structure and filling in spots. I have some of the old yellow Stout varieties I like, but so many purple and pinks, looking so alike. I find gardens that have lots of daylilies quite boring. And to pay 200.00 for a daylily that looks to me like the next daylily seems ridiculous.

But that's just my feelings and if someone loves daylilies, I can understand that, considering my love for irises.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh, oh, I'm in trouble with cousin Nut.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Polly K I was the same way, I couldn't understand why people loved DLs. Then I found one that I thought was really nice and realized how many different ones there are. So now I have about 30 or so, of which most were planted last year lol. MIne aren't much to brag about yet, half of them weren't even big enough to bloom yet, but I am looking forward to seeing what they do in 2010. : )

Is that May Day flower some type of Prunus (cherry family)? It reminds me of trees that bloom around herein late April.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

To each their passion as I always say (except for lawners who could be aliens)

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Ha ha I agree!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Yupper Meredith Prunus padus, Also known as European Bird Cherry. I like the purpurpea one in PF but I have the white one. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/132180/

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I have DLs in every bed and a small bed of mostly DLs. Didn't plan it that way but you know how it is when they are blooming they just jump into the wagon some how. That May Day tree looks like a choke cherry to me. Birds love them and unfortunately so do all the various moth caterpillars that have invaded the area.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Alien lawners, LOL. I guess I do appreciate a large rolling, beautifully green lawn, but there is so much other stuff you can do than grow grass. Luckily Russ is with me, and he is happy the less grass he has to mow.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Well, your beds are beautiful Patti, so I will have to amend my comment of boring daylilies. I think it's when there are too many daylilies, and nothing to balance them.

Is that better?

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Mostly I think everyone should plant what works for them. My problem is like most everyone here...I want all of them. :)
