Good morning everyone. Happy Brand New Year.

Jaye, thank you for the prayer above, it is just beautiful. Such an assurance of His divine love, protection, and guidance for those that seek Him. May you be so blessed today my sister and feel His presence. Peace that passes all understanding.

Happy New Year, Ladies here is a good laugh:

Recently, in a large city in France ,
a poster featuring a young, thin and tan woman
appeared in the window of a gym.
It said, "This summer,
do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

A middle-aged woman,
whose physical characteristics did not match
those of the woman on the poster,
responded publicly to the question
posed by the gym.

To Whom It May Concern,
Whales are always surrounded by friends
(dolphins, sea lions, curious humans.)
They have an active sex life,
get pregnant and have adorable baby whales.
They have a wonderful time with dolphins stuffing themselves with shrimp.
They play and swim in the seas,
seeing wonderful places like Patagonia ,
the Bering Sea
and the coral reefs of Polynesia .
Whales are wonderful singers
and have even recorded CDs.
They are incredible creatures
and virtually have no predators
other than humans.
They are loved, protected and admired
by almost everyone in the world.

Mermaids don't exist.
If they did exist,
they would be lining up outside the offices
of Argentinean psychoanalysts
due to identity crisis. Fish or human?
They don't have a sex life
because they kill men who get close to them,
not to mention how could they have sex?
Just look at them ... where is IT?
Therefore, they don't have kids either.
Not to mention,
who wants to get close to a girl who smells
like a fish store?

The choice is perfectly clear to me:
I want to be a whale.

P.S. We are in an age
when media puts into our heads
the idea that only skinny people are beautiful,
but I prefer to enjoy an ice cream with my kids,
a good dinner with a man who makes me shiver,
and a piece of chocolate with my friends.

With time, we gain weight
because we accumulate so much
information and wisdom in our heads
that when there is no more room,
it distributes out to the rest of our bodies.

So we aren't heavy,
we are enormously cultured,
educated and happy.
Beginning today,
when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think,
¨Good grief, look how smart I am!¨

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

Oh ,well then, in that case,I am just brilliant! LOL

Raleigh, NC

Happy New Years Sistahs!!

I must be A GENIUS!!!

it's ham, black eyed peas and collard greens in the south for good luck. on the news just now, it's said the black eyed peas look like coins when they swell up - now where did they get that idea?

Collards are green, like money. After 56 years of not liking collards, I've recently discovered that my mom can't cook collards. They really are wonderful!

My son's Hungarian godmother told me years ago they eat pig (ham or pork) because pigs root through the ground, so they will root out good luck for the new year.

They also take a penny, wrap it tightly up in a cabbage leaf, tie it up in a thread and hang it from the ceiling in the kitchen. Darned if I can remember why.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

and when I look at my tummy, does it say that I'm a genius, too? lol
I laugh until my belly jiggles - does that make me Mrs Claus? hmmmmmmm I'm better tell my DH to change his last name, but he's so thin........... can't be Santa LOL

BUT

if any of y'all have doctors like mine that tell me if I want to stay alive another five years I'll have to lose weight,

feel free to join me over in the iris forum on a thread I started
"Getting ME ready for iris season"

and anyone that wants to cheer us on can come too!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I'm in a quagmire here. Insulin blows me up... and I don't eat much to add to the weight gain. Just not enough physical activity! The treadmill is boring.. "Baby it's cold outside!" Excuses.. excuses... heheheheee!

Just call me God's unique creation! Fat and all!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the ecard and prayer, and the laugh!

I was on earlier and got up to do something and Tiga took my chair! Of course I don't have the heart to wake her up, even though I get woken up at all hours of the night either being pet (strange coming from an animal) or licked on my nose.

Nichole I am so sorry I spelled your name wrong too! I've seen the name spelled like that before, but it didn't click I guess.

Bon I've known several Bonita's and Bonito's (female and male.)

We didn't do anything last night. Since Dave was laid off we decided that by the time that we pay cover, the cost for the drinks, and food it's too expensive for our pocketbooks, so we went to the liquor store for Stoli and came home and enjoyed it LOL!

Have a great day everyone, see ya'll later!

Raleigh, NC

Oddly enough, since my tummy was iffy and I don't like to cook when it's like that, Randall took me out on a date night! Ruth went with friend Jess (the gal that every now and then lives here) to First Night and watched them drop the copper Acorn! First Night is a HUGE non-alcolhol street party in Raleigh -this was its 19th year. This year they have an outdoor ice skating rink in downtown Raleigh. Not sure how they are doing it, but they are!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I am still alive...I think....we had around thirty for the ride and around 45 for food... Oh, am I miserable....I made a ham, blackeyed peas, greens, yams, Jiffy corn and spinach casserole, 5 Bean Chili, the ham and Cheese sandwiches made on dinner rolls, fruit/cheese and Cracker tray...coffee, cocoa, tea, mulled cider, lemonade....then there was two big platters of BBQ Ribs, Fried Chicken, a big pot of Vegetable soup, green salads, rice/pomegranite salad, Pasta salad, home made dinner rolls, home made corn muffins, apple pie, lemon pie, chocolate cake, brownies, oranges, nuts....lots of beer....and I know I have forgotten some things...

It was wet and cold and miserable outside...several people said they only made it back because they knew there lots of good food and hot drinks waiting...and a fire in the fireplace.....

This is part of the group getting ready to leave.... Porter is supervising the departure...

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I took this from the hall...living room tho the right, dining area to the left....beverages and desserts were on the work benches in the shop straight ahead....not a lot of space for so many people.

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I'll take some of that corn and spinach casserole and a ribs on the side, please :D
Trisha, I bet there were lots of "mmmmmmmmm"s all around!! Some lucky bikers. Is this an annual event? Did you break out the new bike yet? Truly a memorable way to celebrate the new year.
I see some puddles on the road.... hope it's last night's rain.
Porter must be getting the best of the left overs!!
Thanks for the pics. Sage got to be the cutest little helper!

Smart alternative there Crissy. Once you stick to a budget, you'll both find actually there were more wants than needs in the past..

Maid M.. you can finally say.. well done FSU!

Too bad me and Debbie can't say the same about LSU.

LK.. missing you sistah.

Good night everyone.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Good night Jaye.....yes this an annual party....this is the 5th year I have done it....we started out with a group of friends...and it grew...as more people started coming the Bike Club President during year three offered for the club to help finance the food....and they have continued to do so or I would not be able to do this for so many people.

my bike is still a bare frame...I have decided on a Copper color but I have to save up to have it painted...then Bill will have to get all the parts put on it...will most likely be Spring and warmer weather before I get to ride it.

Sage had a wonderful day today. She got to visit a little school friend from eleven until two....then she came back here and ate, played video games and kept Porter in her room with her (Porter gets snappy in large crowds)...then at four her mom picked her up..it is her weekend to have Sage. So she was a happy kid.

It has been a long day...going to finish my cider and Sherlock Holmes then head to bed myself.

Have a good night all.

Port Vincent, LA(Zone 8b)

My poor Tigers! They must have eaten too much cabbage and black-eyed peas. I was hoping they would have had a huge bowl of spicy gumbo. But, there is always another day to win. I still love em'. Well, the first day of the new year has ended. Food, family, friends, football and love. What a wonderful day.

Debbie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Coffee is on. Jaye I am here, just have company till later today, then I will be back.
Trisha, looks like you all had a great time. And all that food sounds yummy!

Good morning!
2nd day of the new year. Hope this day is just as good as it was yesterday for me.

If you're not a biggie college football fan like Maid M and Sis Debbie.. avoid reading the next paragraph!! Lol!!

Die hard fan here of the Tigers too, Sis Debbie. They just need to be more cohesive and hopefully, Jefferson will 'mature' up. Don't know about Les Miles though.. his attitude was certainly different. Do you think they'd call for his head?
But Tim Tebow did a fantastic job last night. Yep, I said it Maid M.. he did the best he could. Don't care much for the team, but credit's given when it's due. Think the Cin. team was upset that too much notice was given to the Gators team by the media, and bragged they came to the game, undefeated.
Pride goes before a fall.
But then, they're not in the SEC pool :D Penn just won by 2 points over LSU. Auburn did good. It's a tough group!

Hambone has learnt that this is his home! He barked at hunters early this morning.
We'll be looking for a better set up than him being chained to the fence.
A closed in run, will be quite costly for this huge dog, who needs space. So we're thinking of a trolley/run system.
There will be a corner with extra protection against the sun, weather..

I have 2 cats that LOVE football!!! I'm serious. Whenever football's on the telly, they'll jump on the receiver and follow the game.
Here are Silver and Farah loving a touchdown!

They concur that that's a future NFL quaterback.
Btw, they were following the Rose Bowl. Donna must be happy!

Thanks for the coffee LK. Bringing my cup along with me..

Have a wonderful Saturday my sistahs!! See you all later this evening.
Stay warm and if you planned to hit the roads, be safe.
Love you all!

Morning Y'all!

Got to stay away from coffee, working on my weight - only like it with tons of sugar and cream. I've got a huge pot of earl grey tea on. working through my pills. Looking for a light breakfast, but it's COLD.

Randall's sitting beside me, groaning he's got to take down outside lights today. Darn! ours is a dark neighborhood. I'll miss those "runway lights" on the driveway. Usually I leave up the tree, but someone suggested leaving up the creche instead, until Epiphany. Think I'll take down the tree today, too.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

A big cup of coffee and watching the birds out front and the Ski Jumping on TV...if I don't get a bit of energy soon I may just spend the day here...yesterday was fun but I Am Tired Today!

Upper forties and rain here for most of the week....have a break right now, but the next round of rain should be in later today.

Glad Hambone is settling in....he is so cute...think he just needs some love.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Isn;t there a Hambone song? I love animals and keeping one for just a few days has me hooked. We have a cat that stayed outdoors for several years but has changed his mind and decided it is nicer inside, especially when it rains. Once he found the doggie door he comes and goes as he pleases. It is a wonder he hasn't made me fall, always right in front of me. I have enough trouble with my dogs.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

hambone song.
Well, the company has left, and is nice and quiet.
Hope you all are doing well.
LK

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks LK, went to the site and listened to the song. Now it all comes back to me. Brain just needed a kick start.

I wish I could send you all some of this warm sunshine, it does feel so good on the old aching bones. We will be getting some rain soon, just not too much at one time. Places where the fires were last summer don't need the soil washed away. I said I was going to go out and look at my garden, well unless I get off this computer I won't be doing anything.

On my way to Bon's new thread.
Darn, nothing happens when I click on the thread. Will keep trying.

Hahahaha that hambone song is funny. I was thinking of another one, though. Seems to me it was by Elvis? or of that era, anyway............. (no, not houndog).

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Having a hard time getting away from my computer. Missed saying welcome to Nichole, my niece spells her name that way too. This is a great thread and everyone is a special friend. Just wish we didn't live so far away from one another.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

This is what I found on Wikipedia:

"A song about the hambone from Step it Down (v.s.):

Hambone Hambone pat him on the shoulder
If you get a pretty girl, I'll show you how to hold her.
Hambone, Hambone, where have you been?
All 'round the world and back again.
Hambone, Hambone, what did you do?
I got a train and I fairly flew.
Hambone, Hambone where did you go?
I hopped up to Miss Lucy's door.
I asked Miss Lucy would she marry me.
(falsetto)"Well I don't care if Papa don't care!"
First come in was Mister Snake,
He crawled all over that wedding cake.
Next walked in was Mister Tick,
He ate so much it made him sick.
Next walked in was Mister Coon,
We asked him to sing us a wedding tune,
Now Ham-....
Now Ham...."

LOL now That sounds funny, too lol

Hey y'all! My laptop battery charger gave up, then my battery died earlier. Randall marched me to the truck (his car still won't start) and we went to Batteries Plus. $86+ with tax. Hadn't planned this expense. Ouch! Randall said " you are not tying up my computer. You love being online with your dave's garden friends too much." Bless this wonderful man.

Samigal, do you know how to get to the various forums on DG? Go to the Iris forum. You'll find my thread "Getting ME ready for iris season". Got another batch of turkey Onion veggie soup cooling, about to go in the frig for de-fatting. Will be nearly fatfree when finished. That and lowsalt saltines makes healthy lunch in the cold.

COLD - darn it all, it's blessedly COLD out there. And going to get worse all week.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I know I have told you that my Porter is a great dog except she Does Not like other dogs. A doctor friend of ours stopped by to pick up some items he left here yesterday. I met him at the door and gave him his things, he called Porter over to pet her...about that time some visitor from down the street walked by with his Unleashed Pit Bull... for an old Lady Dog Porter can move pretty fast when she wants to... the two dogs ran at each other....I tried to grab her and didn't get a good hold, resulting in a bad fall. The other dog owner manged to get a hold of collars and keep the two apart until we could get there and get Porter... he never said one word. I have a scraped left knee and hand but my right side took the worst of it and I don't know just what I did...but my right shoulder and elbow really hurt. I can move everything okay, Dr. Dave says the way I went down it is probably a bad strain....when I said I wanted a few days rest this is not what I had in mind.

Raleigh, NC

oh Trisha! Can you manage a hot shower, then some ice packs?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Did that Bon, and when I get back from Church I am going to spend the rest of the night in a tub very HOT water.
