Happy Boxing Day

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That is good to hear, Lynnie. A good work enviornment makes life so much easier.

Yeah, JJ. Got the Kid home and settled in. He had a good time, but suffers from "Dorothy syndrome"....hits the door saying There's no place like home....grin. My 3 month visit today with MIL went okay. I brought her two huge pots of Phaius orchids so she can have them to "share with her friends"....I had to call in a favor to get them, cuz i thought they were for her....sheesh.... she gave me 8 or 9 silver bracelets that she received as HS graduation presents 63 years ago. I was just blown away that she would give them to me....then she said "Melissa(DH's sister) and Linda (DH's SIL) and Linda's girls don't wear silver, so I thought you would like them....but you'll have to clean them." LOL Then she pulled out a strand of pearls and said that she didn't wear them anymore so she thought I should take them, but if I wasn't going to wear them, then I should pass them on to my daughter because she would appreciate them.....man oh man....37 years and counting.....grin

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL on the Dorothy syndrome
How nice to give her enough to share. Well you have 3 more months to recover from visit.
Are those man made pearls or saltwater pearls ( i think thats right, just know there is a difference)?

How far are you counting to 100? LOL

(Zone 5b)

wow silver & pearls Moon!

Venice I hope you get well soon! Sound's like you have a nasty dose of all that. Moon, good to read you are feeling better and from what read you had a joyous time with your MIL;-)))) . Dixie, did you send poor Lester into orbit? I will look for him;-) Jjs I love your floor's and hope you and Smiley do not get alot of snow this go around. Flower's, sound's like your having a grand time with your grandkid's and Joy I hope your boy's are having a good visit and your not missing them too much. Dave, pretty picture of the sky from Kilauea and the food picture's look delicious. Lynnie, hope you do not have to work too hard but it sound's like you enjoy what you do and that say's alot in the workforce.

Well All , my internet is shutting down and then I have to unplug the modem and start again. so think I will call it a night and make company bring me new one in the morning, before I throw something.

Have a good night All

(Zone 5b)

g'night JJ

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sorry JJ...what a pain. They are cultured pearls....the irritant is implanted into the oyster shell and the oyster bed is tended...so that would be man-made I guess....the man implants the irritant and the oyster makes the pearl.....grin....I am at 9,999 and counting....LOL. I wish it was every three months....it is just that a single visit FEELS like three months......grin

Yup, Lynn, silver and pearls....and I am tickled to have them, despite the need for her to try to take the joy out of the gift.Used to it by now....grin

Hi Rachel. Thanks. Hope you had a good Christmas. Yup just a lovely day in family hell....grin

Hi Jean and I feel really positive that you can handle your MIL well;-) I prefer Silver over gold/pearl's any day but just give me a plant instead! Plant's just seem to help out during stressful time's and so do animal's.

Valentine agree's too;-)

Good Morning! Good Morning!

Moon, enjoy the pearls anyways, they're yours now. Wear them, you know what they say about pearls, body oils bring out the lustre!

Venice, so glad you went to the dr. Now you can start feeling better. Flowers, how old are the kids? Hi JJ, give 'em heck. We found out how much difference a new modem makes too.

You up Lynnie? Probably cross-posting...

9° here. More snow on the way, but just an inch or so.

(Zone 5b)

Hi I just got up! I have turned into a lazybones! it's wildly windy here...somthing just made a racquet on the roof.....

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Morning girls, need more cofeeeee! Smiley have two 7 yr olds, and one 5. One got homesick aroud 12am so got in my bed, the five yr old just likes to roam the house and smile, well he wound up in my bed too. Mammy slept at foot of bet with little feet playing piterpat on my head and back all night lol. Is it 6:30 yet???? Lynnie hope nothing fell on your roof like a tree! Mom maybe MIL is trying to make amends for all the drama she has installed in your life. Venice are those meds kicking in yet? Rachaell Valentine is very handsome. JJ get a new modem, so we can play. Joy its 28* here acording to outdoor window thermomiter but think wind chil is mabe 10. Dixie must be out putting salt socks on poos so they can navigate lol. Gotta open the restaurant, one wants oatmeal, one pop tarts and other is not up yet. Have a great day all, stay warm and keep smileying!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning Smiley. Well as the saying goes, Misery loves company and my MIL has chosen to be miserable and bitter. I have never been her favorite person, but made it concrete when I suggested she would be happier if she sought out professional help.....may not the most politic of suggestions...although my father-in-law enjoyed it....

Good Morning Lynn....good for you....after so many late night/early morning days a little lie-in does the body good.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Morning Flowers. It is a game my MIL plays. The thing with the pearls is that I may have them because she is mad at DHJim's sister so she gives me the pearls to spite Melissa. First thing I will do is ask Lis about them. If she loves them, they will go directly to her. I love my SIL far more than a strand of pearls. My DDJan calls her Grandmother Granny Spoon....always stirring up the manure.

Hope you and the little ones have a good day....sounds like it will be an inside play day. It is 30 here, frost and sunshine with no wind right now.

(Zone 5b)

it's 8 degrees with the windchill here, wind advisory says 50 mph gusts..hold on to your hats! brrrr!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Morning Moon sounds like you have it under controll and doing what a good DIL should. Yep indoor today, thinking we will play the mayflower and tie them all to the ceiling fan for a few hours and let them swing lol. Sure they will have their own ideas just here for the ride lol. Catch ya later Gone for more coffee!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Hey Lynnie, glad you are enjoying the new job and everyone is welcoming you sweetly, I know thats rough leaving one after that many years.

(Zone 5b)

Dixie I went to the gym where were you?? I didn't see your hot wheel anywhere!
Moon I may even bring them cake thursday lol
kids ran outside, I think they may blow away.....

Dronfield, United Kingdom

Hi everyone,sounds like you're all mainly bright and cheerful today:}
Firstly,Venice,it's such a good thing you went to your Dr,infections don't clear up on their own and you were obviously in need of some help.Hopefully now you'll start to recover and soon be well again .Look forward to hearing from you soon:}
Moon, that MIL situation of yours would be funny,if it weren't so rediculous, wouldn't it?
I often wonder when people are like that,why it is they can't just allow themselves to be normal and happy,when all their family only wants to be kind to them!!.Some people always seem to have a need to cause trouble,my Mum's sister[my Aunt] was like it,always falling out with various members of the family.She's passed away now ,but Mum and I often remember some of her more strange manners:}.I don't have a MIL,only a FIL,he's 88 and we all get along fine.The silver bracelets sound particularly nice,silver's my favourite for jewellery:}
Flowers,you're having a great time:}
Smiley, sounds like your weather's rather rough at the moment.I guess the bridge
would be very dangerous,if it were left open,.is it very high above the lake?Glad you had a good time with your brother and his family:}
Rachel, your dog Valentine's looks lovely, like his frill around his neck, was it specially for his Christmas photo?
Lynnie, glad you're enjoying your work:}I notice your weather's very cold too. That wind sounds painfull!!!
Hope I'll get to chat with some of you later, and yes,it's quiet without my sons, especially Will who never stops talking,Sam's a lot quieter.
Take care all of you.
Joy

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi Joy! I wonder if flowers' grands wrapped her around the maypole...

The weather here now is a balmy 11°F, I don't know how to translate to centigrade, flunked out of math class HAH! HAH! It was never my strong point. I know what you mean about the quiet in the house. DS was always a quiet, introspective person, DD is out there. We used to call her "Zoom Loudly", Zoom for short. She is full of life and a very social person, very much like my mother. So if Jacob was gone, we didn't much notice the noise difference, but if Angela was gone.... the quiet was deafening.

The skyway is open today. It runs next to Lake Erie and connects downtown Buffalo to the southern communities, AKA 'The Southtowns'. I suppose it's not much higher than your average bridge, but being next to the lake if it's windy it can be treacherous, similar to Kassy's old bridge. The combination of wind, cold and spray from the lake (which turns to ice) shuts it down quite a bit.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi Joy. It actually is rather funny in an ironic way....I have just learned to play duck and let it slide from my feathers...grin, Silver is my first choice in jewelry...wedding band is white gold, and have a few copper pieces, but everything else is silver.

Wow Smiley heard on the news yesterday that they took down a massive bridge in upstate NY that was built in 1929. Think it was over Lake Champlain....took 800 pounds of explosives....that is across the state from you isn't it?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes Moon, I think it's wa-ay over there. Actually on the NY / VT border, according to this article. I better ask Joy for that map back, I didn't know NY and VT shared a border...

http://www.boston.com/news/local/vermont/articles/2009/12/29/lake_champlain_bridge_is_felled/

We watched an implosion of some old grain mills that were a few blocks away from us. It is a really neat thing to see, this would have been twice as cool.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Actually, that bridge looks very similar to Buffalo's Peace Bridge, which is one of the bridges linking the US to Canada over the Niagara River.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I just thought it was neat. sad when historic structures have to come down, but wow....they heard the explosion over two miles away....wonder about windows in places nearby....grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

It's weird when they do those ~ it's like these dull booms, then the thing falls down.

It is too bad, but if unsound, what're ya gonna do? Too bad it couldn't have been fixed before it needed to be destroyed.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

It seems that by the time anyone noticed it needed work it was already structurally unsound and more expensive to try to restructure than just rebuild....guess after 80 years of wear and tear it is to be expected.

(Zone 5b)

my screen porch window just blew out and ripped into pieces grrrrrr
I TOLD my husband to lower them during wind storms but he DOESN'T LISTEN! He put braces up and that blew out too. ooooh I am not happy! Those screens were expensive!

(Zone 5b)

sorry...how rude!
How are you fine ladies on this windy day?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Wow Lynnie, what are the gusts? That's a lot of wind!

Oooooh, Lynnie sounds angry. Can't blame you there. Sometimes they think we don't know what we're talking about. Sometimes a good "I told you so" would so so-o-o good. I guess that's why they make punching bags..

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You are absolutely right. How rude he didn't listen....grin. Fortunately it didn't damage anything when it took flight.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Grinding teeth and punching pillows....I just present DH with the bill and a "butter wouldn't melt" Here ya go Dear.....I told you so would be so much more satisfying...grin

(Zone 5b)

50 mph gusts....if people LISTENED there'd be no black marks on my hardwood, my screen would be intact, and there would be world peace.
we got a punching bag for xmas....

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

LOL, Lynn. Time to try it out??

(Zone 5b)

I texted him a pic and told him he is fixing it.
I love him dearly, I do but we have enough to do around here without re-doing stuff.
In the spring he'll probably try to kill my trees again. Sigh.

(Zone 5b)

lol there's no sand in it yet or I would.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

yeah... Yeah... YEAH!!! WORLD PEACE.. YEAH!!!

BLACKMARKLESS HARDWOOD FLOORS...YEAH!!

Paperless offices....

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I can see Lynnie a la 'million dollar baby' in the corner with the punching bag in her robe & fuzzy socks.

(( we should all send her a mouth guard ))

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Her DH would love it if we sent her a mouth guard....grin. I agree Lynn...too many jobs to have to re-do one. Just a waste of time and money and energy.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hi there just fo a moment. Moon, if your SIL takes the pearls, that would be an interesting scene when your MIL saw her wear them!

No sleep last night. Need more NyQuil!

(Zone 5b)

EXACTLY! The frame is completely broken!
my new bathrobe is fuzzy, too, it's pink. Just to complete the visual...imagine my hair in 50 mph winds

(Zone 5b)

Venice are you drinking fluids?
